Prior to the June 23 update… you used to get a skill point every time you leveled up past 80. You could use XP boosters…. Celebration, Birthday, etc to speed up the process by increasing the XP you got from doing events, kills etc…

However I just tested now and you get neither hero points NOR spirit shards for leveling up if you are already 80 now. What is the point of leveling up now if you don’t get anything for it?

Its for masteries which are going to be added in HoT.

The title of this thread is correct, there’s no point in leveling beyond 80 because the reward has been removed until HoT is released. Kind of ridiculous considering it wouldn’t be that difficult to just have it award S.Shards until then.

I think they’re in a tough spot with people who don’t buy the xpac though, they won’t have access to mastery points so they’re SOL until they fork out the $$.

So for now all XP, boosters, bonfires, guild bonuses and even the daily xp writs are meaningless. Thanks Anet!

No maybe about it. Experience will accumulate on your XP bar (maybe it will be called Mastery XP bar), and will be used to further your Mastery goals.

Until then, the XP bar (and any rewards it used to bestow) is in flux.

So if you don’t -buy- HoT?

Then, the Skill Points (now Spirit Shards) you formerly received or now obtainable through other mean, such as completing Dailies.
