No role play or personal story anymore??
Oh they removed it, I didn’t even notice.
The options are still there in dialogue boxes.
I think part of why they took out the Personality thing is because one was named “Ferocity”. Since they added the “Ferocity” stat, that might cause some confusion if they kept the Personality Ferocity in. Maybe it’ll come back at a later time. However, it was mostly a pointless thing. It didn’t affect your gameplay in any way, other than giving you a different way of saying things to NPCs (and those options are still there).
Yes I know it wasn’t doing anything (and it should!), but this was something like hair or eyes… esthetic feature but of mind not body. Why remove it? Ferocity could be just renamed. My point is that instead of making it more fun and meaningful, they choose to remove it. Sure, role play and personal story are probably quite challenging in development, but should we expect nothing ambitious? THIS IS MY STORY turns into “just do the daily”.
It served no purpose from a gameplay or roleplaying POV. So they rightfully axed it.
Doesn’t mean they aren’t working on something better though. In it’s current form it was a pointless feature from launch that they could never fit to the way the game was developing.
One of our suggestions back in the last CDIs was that those should mean something / impact your game play.
Perhaps they have removed this in order to look into that suggestion. Perhaps revamp that system so that it does have meaning and impact. Sort of crossing my fingers…
I liked it but yeah it was a pretty pointless system. In the end you could totally game it and change your meters as much as you wanted with the 3 NPCs in southeast Cursed Shore anyway.

I would not say it served no purpose it changed your characters stance in the cut-scene.
- The personality system has been removed.
- The cut-scene presentation has been retired.
- The city that the second third of the story takes place in was destroyed a year after the events of the personal story, but it is destroyed in all city scenes and missions which makes a few things incredibly awkward and confusing.
- When you look at the map to find next closest story location, you don’t know what the nearest available waypoint is until you enter the zone.
Personal story is a deprecated mess that I expect to just get worse and worse and make less sense in the game over-all as Anet moves away from it. From a mechanical and narrative perspective.
It really is a shame. Especially since they had this figured out in GW1 and the route they took left each campaigns story wide open for independent changes. When you took a character from one campaign to another you received some dialog about experiencing events of the past or how they would have transpired if you were there. It all made sense and wasn’t constrained to time, profession or race (Krytan/Canthan/Elonian). But then we also had instanced and repeatable story missions with bonus objectives and two difficulties.
Hooray for progress…
