This is one of the best looking outfits ever put into the gem store. But seriously, who overlooked the fact that you cannot wear the top hat with this outfit? I know you can’t wear head pieces with outfits even though you can hide the outfit head. This is just disappointing, I wanted to be able to buy a suit for my Charr and wear the top hat along with it, while riding a flying broom.

There’s the small matter of the lower legs that disappear into a black blob below the skirt, particularly noticable when jumping/running.

Its not that its NOT important to people. I believe they know it is. The problem is a technical limitation that prevents them from doing it. Outfits replace parts of your model so you can wear them in combat as a set.

Now that’s just downright not true. There is an oversight in the preview window that lets you see a headpiece with the Ancestral Outfit. Preview the Ancestral outfit from the bank, and toggle the visibility of your headpiece off and on.
This seems to happen because that outfit lacks a head part, but because of that it’s definitely not impossible to have this as a feature on any outfit with just some very minor model changes.

Edit: Went and checked, and it seems to work with all headgear for human and norn male and females at least. Some do cause some nasty texture glitching though, like certain armor combinations used to do.
Not allowing headgear with outfits is still really lazy in my opinion.

Well, being the owner of a few outfits, I completely realized the “Helm” limitation on the new outfit. Someone I was chatting with remarked he was considering getting the Horns to go with it, and I reminded him that doesn’t work.

Hey dude you are walking into a wall.

Yeah, yeah. Blah, blah technical blah. I’m so sick and tired of people defending them on those grounds.

TIME was the only issue with not being able to do it. Not technology. They thought they were appeasing the “I want to wear Town Clothes in combat” crowd, and didn’t have the time and/or manpower (or inclination) to properly incorporate it into the Wardrobe before the release deadline. So they took a lot of shortcuts, and continue to throw Outfits at us in rapid succession hoping we’ll be satisfied with a big selection of those.

And look! NOBODY can wear their Town Clothes in combat now! (Unless they like a “set” as a whole).

We had mix ‘n’ match since the start with our Town Clothes. Clipping was no bigger an issue there than with any other armor pieces. Fighting animations worked as well, since we could Costume Brawl in them. Another window could be added to the Hero Panel and Town Clothes restored exactly as before – non-combat – and people would love it. Then I can kick the tar out of that NPC who turned all of mine into useless tonics.

Dang it, you got me all riled up again. Town Clothes is my hot-button issue. I really didn’t want to rage against ANet on the first day of the Halloween Festival. Please don’t say anything about the %#@*&~! Megaserver.

I have no personal opinion of the matter. I am simply stating what ANet has said is the reason behind the choice.

Yep, it’s a real shame. It is indeed a beautiful set, but it would have been so much better as a light armor set.

I will not buy any ‘all or nothing’ sets of town clothes. It is a bad, outdated concept which puts beautifully crafted models to waste. You are really shooting yourselves in the foot each time one is released.

Please go back to releasing armor sets in the same vane as Tricksters, Phoenix, Aetherlade, etc. That’s where your armor modeling/UV mapping/texturing effort needs to be directed.
