Is this permanent or a one time use?

sooo, i just got one of these aaand i’m not really sure what i’m supposed to do with it…it ports me into Noran’s basement but that’s about it. to a safe spot but i can’t use it in battle…so…i don’t quite understand…

This is a permanent pass. After you complete the local heart you can buy a key for 0 karma from the vendor. This key (which you also get one for free from the black lion chest when you are awarded the pass) allows you access behind the safe room wall. Look for an interactive wall.

After you get halfway through the puzzle you will face a veteran spider. Defeating the spider yields a chest. This chest contains an oil that you use in your inventory and the key becomes an oiled key. You use this key on the chest at the end just a few feet away from the exit portal.

It really isn’t as useful as you may think. It’ll get you there but you still have to leave and do the Heart to unlock the vendor for the “free” key. Considering how close the way point is, doesn’t really save you a lot of time.

yeah that’s what I assumed…great item, so much use!

I’d really like to know what they were thinking when making that item…maybe they just want to promote that there’s sth behind the boxes…

It basically only saves you from paying the waypoint cost to the waypoint next to Noran’s place..

I think he believes there is some super advantage with that item, therefore the notion it’s only available as an uncommon drop from the BLC as a “cash grab”/P2W where in reality it’s barely a convenience item.

I know more people upset over previous “exclusive” glider skin/mini pet from previous seasonal uncommon item in chests.

but if a merchant sells the key.. then what’s the profit of adding it to a blc?

I don’t mind if something is exclusive to the BL chests when it’s first release, but nothing should be available exclusively from them forever.

Eventually, months or years after the first release, there has to be other sources. Like:

• Directly sold in the gemstore.
• A very rare drop from a hard boss in the area, in a tradeable container that you open to get the item.
• Some recipe you craft with items in the area.
• An expensive purchase from an NPC in the area.

Etc.

It has been months or years because otherwise people would just wait for the other source and ignore the first one. But it has to happen eventually or the content will be kept from people who can’t do RNG gambling no matter what, like it being against their religion or them having gambling problems and having to avoid gambling even in games.

RNG should never permanently be the one and only source for something. I’m looking at you, Delusion.

The extra “waypoint”. Look at it from ANet’s PoV. They are changing up the BLC from Lunar New Year to LWS3E4. So envelope goes away as does the pet. You need to replace it with something.

Well part of the episode deals with a supply depot so toss in two T6 crafting bags as the guarantee, so nothing you really need to make from scratch, just like all previous season common drop.

That leaves the uncommon seasonal slot which has had something new, only available from the BLC. So far they’ve had two gliders (Halloween and Wintersday), a mini (Lunar New Year), a staff skin (Wintersday) and Episode 3’s waypoint to the Bitterfrost Vantage Point. I’m not include the Braham Outfit since you could buy it at the same time from the Gem Shop.

They just did a mini. White Mantle outfit and glider already in the gem store along with the Shining Blade Backpack/Glider combo, therefore they wouldn’t unique to the BLC.

So from that train of thought, that leaves a waypoint to somewhere that might be useful but not so much that there’s an uproar about it (like last time). So that’s how we got Noran’s Safe Room Pass and Key. There’s a waypoint already nearby. Chest isn’t anything to write home about. Completing the maze once gets you a mastery point.

I don’t envy ANet. They are stuck between a rock and a much bigger rock when creating items and deciding where to offer them.

I just got this and it’s absolute junk.. will most likely delete it after I portal the remaining toons that haven’t done the story to get to the map.. such a waste as a rare drop from a black lion chest.

It leads you to a puzzle that you could just walk from the WP. Pathetic.

The post was done the very first day it was released, when it was assumed it’d be like any private room such as the Royal Terrace.

You know, since Anet doesn’t put out public test realms and there are no real previews of the content to provide context for what is in the patch notes.

Can you cross the interactive wall without the pass?

In fact the pass doesn’t actually let you cross the wall as such. You can’t get the final chest without the key, which also is the normal way of getting into the puzzle. What the pass does is let you get the mediocre first chest without having to do the heart.
