Norn height GW1 vs GW2
Remember we got the worst Norn leftovers, all their valiant and powerful heros died. We’ve ended up with the sick and lame Norn, all huddled together in their city xD A city for Norn… Thats probably why they’re all shorter, bent over in shame of what has befallen their people.
Literally runts of the litter, the only ones which didn’t die fighting Jormag, were left breed. Probably why the Sons of Svarnir have such sway – anything to return glory to their race and be tall and strong once more.
Well the height of the Norn doesn’t actually seem to have changed much.
I’ve put together a side-by-side height comparison between GW1 and GW2.
In both I have my minimum height human characters standing next to a Norn. The GW2 Norn is a max-height character, and the GW1 Norn is Olaf Olafson. (The GW2 Norn player happened to be named Olaf as well, :P )
I tried to get the resolution about the same, but the resolution isn’t really the important part. What’s important is the ratio of height between the Norns and the humans. Olaf has some poofy hair so I drew his line slightly below the top of his hair. Even if I hadn’t, the size of the Norn seems pretty steady throughout the 250 years.
“The GW2 Norn is a max-height character”
That’s the thing, Olaf Olafson was average height, not “max”.

We’re the runts of the litter if you consider WW2, yet humans are getting taller and taller. Height has little to do with courage.
Norns are already ridiculously tall as it is. They’d make fine and easy targets for enemy fire… bloody hell, a few humans would be able to use a fallen one as cover… and cube root law would make them really really heavy. Doubling in size = 8 times the weight.
15 average humans are a tonne, 1 norn would be 500kg or more. Plus armour. Plus they live in the most sparsely populated areas regarding huntable food, and trees. Their calorific requirements would make everything they can hunt or fish extinct within months. Instead of huge grand halls, they’d have to dig into the ground and use minimal wood and other construction materials since it would be in very short supply.
Believe me, it is better for the shorter ‘runt’ survivors that the taller, more demanding and less efficient norn are gone.
Norn are already pretty darn big. Especially if set to max height. If they made them bigger people would be unhappy then too. Always something it seems.
I’ve seen plenty of grumping over their ‘slower’ run animation due to their size already. It’s like norn run in slow mo, and asura are pure fast forward.
I cant play Norn because of the run animation. Its like the slow motion running scene in the film ‘Chariots of Fire’…
My character (the smallest height Monk) is halve the height of Jora (who is halve the height of a jotan xD) so as said above the heights for GW1/GW2 norn are about the same
(Jora was as tall as norn male npcs in GW1!)
This was changed after beta weekend one I believe if my memory serves me right. Norn used to be way bigger in GW2 but were reduced in size due to balance purposes.
Still quite big compared to the other races though:
A max height male Norn in GW2 is ~9.7 ft measured using in-game coordinates. According to lore, Norn average around 9 ft.

Off topic, but the level of detail in the hair is astonishing in GW1 compared to GW2.

I really like the females’ hair and armor in thosepictures ^_^ I hope that hairstyle comes to Guild Wars 2 someday. I also like that version of the monk’s outfit, something seems different about it compared to the GW2 version which is still nice.
As for a current Norn’s height I’d say Eir is maybe 6’5" while a max Norn is around 7’5".

That’s why I personally doubt that brontosaurus or maybe even T-rex ever existed. The form is far too impractical as it’d have trouble supporting its own bodyweight and require lots of energy to survive. Then you have bloodflow issues with a creature that big and its size makes it vulnerable to predators. Humans in fantasy and sci-fi settings are portrayed as average but I personally think we’re the giants taking those scientific laws into account. To say that humans are the biggest most advanced intelligent race in this galactic cluster would be a pretty safe bet.

if you base it on our current climate thos dinosaurs prolly cant exist
however earth was alot different way back
there was some cool hair styles in GW1 but i hated they was proffession locked :x
I suspect Jormag might have froze the tall ones with his breath, leaving the rest to attempt to run south.
