Not Even 3 Months and Anet Already Killed GW2...
Nope, youre killing this game for yourself. I guess you dont realize that the new gear, as far as I’ve read, will only impact your progression IN THE ACTUAL DUNGEON.

Even if they went full gear treadmill the game wouldn’t die, the playerbase would just have a shift in ideals.
Want some cheese with that whine?

Please quote the sentence where they state those new stats will be dungeon-specific and that you can’t use the items in, let’s say, WvW.
I can’t seem to find it.
“As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game. Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content.”
This is exactly what I did NOT want from this game.
Even if they went full gear treadmill the game wouldn’t die, the playerbase would just have a shift in ideals.
It most certainly would because they would be directly competing with World of Warcraft. All the ex WoW players in the game that left for that very reason would go back to WoW. I know I would.
People have this irritating habit to think too much.We don’t even know will this gear be usable in any areas different than the new dungeon.
You don’t know anything yet. Please stop over reacting
I have just a question
What do they gain with these unpopular solutions that makes most players angry?
It would be better not adding ANYTHING and just let thegame as it is, it wuld die slower for sure……
Its the third time they put something to make most players angry when they could just enjoy teir money and do not touch the game….
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

Yep, I would like this pointed out to me too.
Sounds to me like ArenaNet is getting their newborn to bite the curb as their foot hovers precariously over its head.

Yes, but the 2 games are different enough to have their own markets. Rift is still going strong I hear, and that’s basically WOW 2.0

Aside from the +5 precision or whatever, youre not getting any benefits from using an ascended piece with an infusion, in fact it nerfs you since you cant apply runes to these ascended pieces.

Its not even close on the same level of gear progression as other MMOs. I dont see the big deal with this, they are probably introducing only 1-2 items every 2-3 months with slighly(And i do put emphasis on slightly) better stats.
What the hell is the problem here? You are making a big issue of a small thing.

I can’t believe it. The years of anticipation, building a new gaming PC, weeks and months of theorycrafting professions, wasted gems on account stuff like character slots, hundreds of hours of emotional investment in the game…all for nothing. With one bad decision Anet has managed to undo all the hard work put into creating what could have been an amazing MMO for years to come.
Exotics were supposed to be THE end game gear that would last until the next expansion or major game overhaul, not an upgrade that lasts barely 2 months before being replaced. Even legendaries have the same stats as exotics, proof that they were designed to be long term best in slot items.
Guild Wars 2 was supposed to be about fun. Seeing content, having epic experiences, and improving your character aesthetically were the rewards, not grinding for upgrades. Gear was not supposed to be the motivating factor for playing, hence the multiple paths for obtaining the same thing (crafting, trading post, karma, dungeons, etc) But now we’re supposed to throw away our “best in slot items” for even better “best in slot items”, not even 3 months after the game was launched…Even World of Warcraft doesn’t pimp its gear treadmill that fast…
This quote worries me more than anything else:
“As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game. Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content.”
Shame on you Anet.
WTF u talking about??? Please say sorry and log out !!! ANet doing great job !!!
It’s principal.

Then what is the point of adding this as a new content? More than half of the player base dont do dungeons

The stats are better even if you factor in gems from the screenshots provided.
The 3% MF could potentially be any other stat.
Judging from the sounds of infusion they will also offer some form of stat benefit. They talked about offensive, omni and defensive infusions or something.
They wouldn’t create a new set of gear just for 5 precision, they have goals in mind for the ascended set and that is not good news for anyone that dislikes gear treadmills.

A major backpedal on their ideals concerning an obvious slippery slope is hardly a small thing.

For the other half I would assume.

But now it’s closer. You may not be, but some of us are only playing GW2 because we cannot stomach gear-progression. Any kind of gear progression at all is a disappointment. If I wanted gear-progression I’d go do it in some other game, like Progress Quest.

Well then, they can enjoy ALL THE OTHER STUFF THE UPDATE HAS TO OFFER.
No one said you had to run dungeons, and in fact, Ive only done AC once, a couple of CM runs and one CoF run. Ill probably try out the new one a few times but Im not fussed, I just dont see the need for all this complaining about free content. Its ridiculous.

They may as well release gear with resilience…
Fudge it, why not introduce kung-fu pandas too…

You can’t apply runes, but the stats from runes are already added into the base stats of the Ascended items, in addition to the boost that Ascended items get over exotics.
The + to stats will add up over all the pieces of gear. Have you compared Yakkington’s Ring to the exotic ring carefully? You get:
- +5 power
- +5 precision
- +3% magic find.
That’s not trivial, and it will add up. Imagine that x12.

^This guy gets it
GW2 was not supposed to be a gear treadmill, and this IS a gear treadmill.
Where did Arenanet ever say they would never make a tier above exotic, or that exotic would last “until the next expansion or major game overhaul, not an upgrade that lasts barely 2 months before being replaced”??? Had Arenanet made ascended available 2 months ago, noone would’ve thought anything of it, but now that they intoduce it in a fun event you’re mad? Don’t be such a drama queen pls.
another QQ thread… why making another one? just write in the others…
a mod should merge them all or close them.
Even if they went full gear treadmill the game wouldn’t die, the playerbase would just have a shift in ideals.
I’d actually prefer they started to increase gear so that we can have some sort of gear progression. I just don’t want them to go crazy like Blizzard and have me upgrade from a piece of gear that has 40 stamina to a piece of gear that has 200 stamina. Who the hell does that?
I have had a similar reaction. I imagine the “Ascendant Patch” will go down in infamy as the first nail in the coffin, and what turned the game from being the chosen one to unmasking it as just another MMO, with fewer features.
What I find funniest is the line, "to help give you the edge in end game content.” Before that they claimed they were adding gear progression because people pointed out that there wasn’t any endgame. Then they claim that once you have a full set of this stuff, then you’ll have the edge FOR the endgame. Which… is the acquisition of these items. Which you no longer need. Because you just got them.
Things like this are like big special effects in movies. They try to cover up the lack of real content by throwing explosions at you, instead of addressing core issues with the narrative/design.

Talk to me about the ALL OTHER STUFF THE UPDATE OFFERS. A new pvp map? 3 events? The update offers me something to do for a week or just miss it all out. Then what, sir?

lol keep dreaming…seeing content? why should i see the same vista for over and over again? also what endgame do we have right now? you mean like when you reach lvl 80 and you spent most of your in-game time staying at Orr farming karma and gold just so you can get a legendary weapon skin that is not actually better in any practical or useful way ? or doing 3 same paths of dungeon over and over again so you can play Barbie doll with your character?
Apparently the system we have right now is working as intended and and all the people complaining about lack of goal and motivations and dwindling server population are just WoW fanboys…

When the increase levels they have to redo stats from the ground up, essentially, and then plan for the top teir gear stats. They just never rework the last expansions gear to account for the new stat weight. Which is only a problem in the x9 pvp brackets.
