I’d argue this game manages to have equal, if not more, depth than WoW, just less clutter.

Having 150 million skills isn’t depth, like having 5 is not lack there of.

Yes, just how this makes me more productive (somewhat tongue-in-cheek).

GW2 also does not feature a power attack on R1, no headshot kills and no chi projectiles on rotating from down to horizontal. Or in plainer words: It is its own game with its own mechanics, it is irrelevant what wow or any other different game does with its UI.

I donĀ“t mean that in any way caustic, but really, you come to like the game mechanics of GW2 or find something you like better/return to something you liked better. The game is still young and will probably see a lot of changes even in the near future, but I doubt it will ever get a major overhaul of core mechanics like the 10-slot skillbar.

Pretty much this.

By the way it seems like everyone conveniently forgets they have 10 weapon skills due to weapon swap.

@op, I think you need time to learn the game more. It’s not about putting everything on cooldown from left to right on your bar. When you get to 80 and open up all your traits and skills you will find a lot more depth in combat.

Also in my personal opinion, guardian was one of the more boring classes for me to level because it’s so simple as a class overall. Even at 80 it’s pretty much about whacking things in melee and popping a bunch of boon cooldowns when you start taking damage. It feels great to be tanky, but if you want a more exciting melee experience, be a little open minded and try the ele, thief, or even necro, ranger, or engie.

Look GW does have an amazing combat system, but coming from competitive pvp in wow, i really do feel like there are still things missing and room for improvement.

I though WoW hunters were faceroll until i went up against GW2 rangers lol, do they only have 3 abilities or what?

If u want a faceroll combat system play final fantasy, there is no room for these playstyles in MMO’s.

As for LoL i really couldnt care less, comparing the two is like comparing GW to angry birds.

Stop complaining about loaded UI’s, its pathetic… I want more then 10 abilities and so should YOU!!!

Well I can use the exact same reasoning with Heroes of Newerth or Dota if the stigma LoL has is too strong in you. Yes, I know those are MOBAs while GW2 is an MMO, but you can’t deny those games have depth and a pretty healthy competitive PvP scene, with most champions having 4 abilities + the odd item with an active.

Stop complaining about UI’s that are not loaded enough, it’s pathetic ( see what I did there? )

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

The sad part is that you have more than 10 abilities. It’s not the fault of the game if you fail to utilize them.

I guess the big question would be: why aren’t you still playing competitive PvP in WoW? Sounds like that’s what you like and that’s where you should be.

If every new MMO was critiqued on what it does or doesn’t have compared to WoW, I think the genre in general needs to just roll over and die.

If you like WoW PvE/PvP and all the sweet bars of skillz at your disposal, there’s a game out there called WoW.

If you don’t like that GW2 only has 10 skills to use at any given time, there’s a game out there called Anything Else Besides GW2.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Math time. Adding up total equipable skills at a single time.

Warrior:
10 weapon skills with swap, also option to have fast swapping
2 potentially burst skills
3 utilities
1 heal
1 elite, with one potentially adding 5 skills
17-22 total skills.

Guardian:
10 weapon skills with swap
3 virtues
3 utilities
1 heal
1 elite, with 2 potentially adding 5 skills each
18-23 total skills

Mesmer:
10 weapon skills with swap
4 shatters
3 utilities
1 heal
1 elite
19 total skills

Necromancer:
10 weapon skills with swap
5 skills from death shroud
3 utilities
1 heal
1 elite, 1 of them adding 5, 1 adding 3
20-25 total skills

Thief:
10 weapon skills with swap
1 steal skill that gives a wide variety of possible skills, lets say 8 in pvp
3 utilities
1 heal
1 elite
24 total skills

Engineer:
5 weapon skills because they have no swap
4 toolbelt skills, of which turrets provide 2 in each slot
3 utilities, 5 of which provide 5 weapon skills each
1 heal, 1 of which provides 3 skills (1 of them 3 times)
1 elite, 2 of which provide up to 5 skills
14-33 skills
(my math may be a little wonky here due to the way the skills are organized)

Elementalist:
20 weapon skills due to attunement swapping
3 utilities, 4 of which provide 5 weapon skills
1 heal
1 elite, 1 of which adds 3 skills and 1 which adds 5 weapon skills
25-41 skills

Ranger I’m not totally familiar with. They have the standard 10 from weapons, 3 from utilities, but they also have pets… Someone else can do the math.

I don’t see any classes with only 10 skills. And let’s keep in mind that cooldowns greatly affect the flow and usage of all skills, for example the Thief minus the 8 steal skills has arguably the lowest number of skills in combat (next to a kit-less engineer), but has initiative instead of cooldown timers, allowing all 10 weapon skills to be used freely.

Xenon’s list also doesn’t include skills that have aftercast skills, such as mesmer focus 4.

Yeah, but I figured people would want to lump skills like that into a single skill.
