Thanks guys for the responses. Though the reason “watching a girls behind” is quite creepy even for a female virtual character.

There’s nothing wrong with being a straight male. I’m not even sure how this thread got on to the topic of gender equality. Why can’t we just want better hairstyles for dudes, and let that be self evident?

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

Most of the players pick an overly sexualized female character and use the skimpiest armor they can find.

OK, firstly I haven’t noticed this.

I look around, in EOTM (for example) and see a fairly balanced mix of races and genders and a mix of armour/outfit types.

Whereas, in WoW, there was no doubt that there were more male than female chars.

I sometimes wonder whether people are just so used to it being that way and so positive in their own minds that (almost) everyone playing games is male, that even an even gender balance looks overly feminine, to them, in contrast?

You have to realise that there are a lot of female gamers now and that this game, in particular, will tend attract them, as it is relatively conventionally feminine in style.

In fact, bearing that in mind, that is another reason I tend to think they drop the ball, a little, in terms of the complexity and anti-range bias of the game.

As, although I know I can only speak for myself, here, trawling through a lot of overly complex options, while trying to avoid loads of red herrings and enforced meleeing are a big turn-off for me, as a female player.

It’s not that I couldn’t deal with all that, if my life depended on it – it’s just that I don’t want to have to.

So, it’s almost like the look of the game betrays its actual target market (or vice versa), IMO?

Before anyone says anything – I’m not trying to suggest that no women are into the more math-based, complex, melee-only side of games; but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it were fewer.

As I just think we tend (with some notable exceptions) to be more free-spirited, when it comes to playing games, in general.

But, I digress…

I do agree with you, however, that the male armour and hairstyles seem quite restrictive.

Re. the latter, there are a lot of very stylised styles and not enough tougher, or more natural, or ethnically inspired styles.

Although, actually, a lot of the female armour is also pretty same-ish – there is no plain female leggings option, for light armour, for example and only one non-trenchcoat one, for medium.

Similarly, human females only really have one loose, natural, wavy hairstyle and that is the layered, shoulder-length one.

So, I think more styles, for both genders, would be good.

Outfit? Both the Raiment of the Lich and Daydreamer’s Finery is skimpy on both.

Be careful what you ask for

I’m guilty of having only female humans. I’ve made characters that were of other races/gender, but they all felt a little weird to me. Like the male human’s animations are terrible. If that wasn’t enough, the odd body shape and bad armor did it for me.
I just feel like the female human is the best in animations, cosmetics and just about everything else.
In the secret world I have a male.
Eve online I have a male(not that it matters much there).
WoW I have lots of different races/genders.
When given the option in single player games, 99% of the time I play a male. There is just something about GW2 that makes me feel like playing a female human is the best.

I think the biggest limitation with the Human males, is that a lot of the options are “pretty boy”. Like people have already suggested, Norn males have a selection of beards, that would be pretty cool for Human males to have. Instead we have a very tiny selection of facial hair.

I wanted my character to have a beard, like Aragorn’s from Lord of The Rings. I remember being in character creation for a while, trying to make the character how I wanted.

Like I said before, my character turned out alright, but he ended up looking more like Dante from Devil May Cry. Nothing wrong with Dante, he’s cool and all, but overall, I was pretty underwhelmed with the lack of “different” customization options.

Speaking of armour, do we have any for guys that looks like this? http://www.writeups.org/img/inset/Maxi_SC_h5.jpg

there definitely are more human females than any other race.

There’s a very good reason behind this, at least in terms of warrior and guardians, two very popular classes. I actually remade my norn as a human, losing birthday presents after hearing shouts in WvWvW that actually had some degree of emotion in them, and I don’t regret it given how often I support with shouts.

The male voice actors are all more or less on the same level, but the norn voice actress has absolutely no emotion when using warrior and guardian shouts (Though, she seems to have improved noticeably with reaper and tempest, and ranger shouts were acceptable), while the Sylvari voice actress’ shouts aren’t very clear (Though, again, tempest and reaper ones are much better.)

Meanwhile, Charr and Asura are always going to have less people playing them, because, really. It’s kind of weird to want to play as a big hairy cat.

So apparently I got 1 infraction point against me simply because I was saying all the trenchcoats cover your “derrière”.

Edit: Just received an email saying I was wrongfully infracted and the infraction point has been taken away. Thanks Mark Katzbach!

I’m still no longer going to post on the forums though because of whoever it was that infracted me, but thanks for the email :-) and I’ll just +1 posts from now on in fear of this happening again

Forever a supporter of more male skimpy armor

I like to make male characters, but most games do a terrible job with them aesthetically. Usually they are too muscular and have to wear big, bulky armor that cover them from head to toe, with pauldrons the size of a house (yes GW2 is guilty of this). Is it too much to ask for more slender, tight fitting clothes, preferably revealing the same amount as the female version? Some guys look good in that kind of stuff, believe it or not.

I don’t mind skimpy female armor, heck my elementalist runs around in a fancy cloth bikini, but give the guys some of that sexy stuff too!

Lets get one thing out of the way first. Most people who play female characters in GW2 play female characters in all other MMOs, me included. Aside from my main most of my alts are female. The reason they chose female is not because there is a lack of choice.

As a fashionable player, I do like more choices to for all of my characters. However female characters suffer from the same fate as males in this game, there are only limited number of armor that looks good on them, a majority looks terrible. However for me this is the best thing about GW2, there are so many terrible choices it forces the players to actually think and work with the bad pieces to make them work with other bad pieces or end up looking like clones of every other player. If you see a bunch of similar looking human females, treat them as though they are plebs cause they aren’t creative enough to think outside the box.

As for me, I find that there are enough armor types in game, and that hairstyles for both gender is relatively crap. I don’t understand your complaint on unrealistic armor though. There are enough realisitic armor in the game, but at the end of the day we are playing a fantasy game, we are swimming with a full suit of plate.

Especially norn male characters, things are pretty much into proportion on humans…but on norn everything is just way too bulky, especially pauldrons are too big..i dont even wear them and have them always disabled from showing. Most pants are ridiculous, gloves, pauldrons, helms…i don’t like much armor on my norn tbh,ive been wearing the same mix n match for about 2 years now.

Thats also a nice idea! Currently, only the head piece and the shoulder piece can be toggled on and off to show them. what about the rest of the armor pieces! (Though it would be weird to see a semi-naked guy running around with hidden armor and Eternity . Anyways, its great to see a lot of people voicing their concerns over the male hairstyles for the HUMAN race specifically. Also the male armor for the human race too.

Keiel. Different people have different opinions. True what you said about other mmos, but there are a lot more people here who feel that male armor is lacking. Also you cannot decide if people have a lack of choice or not. please make sure you understand that your argument is yours alone and does not represent the entire community.

Also, people keep arguing about the female side of the story. This whole topic was to give some attention to males and their associated stuff. Why argue about female players and female gamers. I did not even say anything about that.
