I wanted to share some ideas about helping ppl while porting em to this jp chest.
1) If someone said like: portal to “not so secret” jp chest in 2 min – please wait at WP, because mesmers got few porting spots (depends on guy who porting).
2) If you a good guy (mesmer too) who has been ported to chest and another mesmer said like: next portal and bla bla bla – dont ever port instead of him! Because 1) He will think that this area already got another kind soul and leave (and folks who came in few minutes after it will miss a port) 2) Maybe he\she wanted to spend some time in porting and you ruined his\her plans. (if you wanted to help and spend some time too – you can always say to him\her in advance)
And small tips for players:
1) You can say “thanks” afterwards, dont be a grumpy ignorant dhead.
2) Fee (gold) is not necessary but if you really want to thank mesmer you can give a small one.
Lets respect each other! And specially mates who helping you and wasting time for you.

Can I just say that I love you kind-hearted mesmers that port me to the tops of JPs. I am really quite bad at them. And I really, REALLY appreciate it. I’ve been to the tops of five puzzles now. Only one without the aid of a mesmer. And that one was with a hand holding “jump here, follow me” guide.

I never know how to thank the kind hearted Mesmers so I send 2 of whatever MF food I have on me. If currency is preferred, how much?

Would depend on the mesmer or difficulty of the puzzle I think.

I never send anything, as I play a mesmer and do my own share of jp portaling. I used to dislike seeing “portal to jp. x gold” Glad you don’t really see that anymore.

I suppose a fair “price”, would be, what you can afford. If you’re loaded with 900 gold, I think you can afford giving a gold or 2, if you on the other hand have 20g,..might want to keep it at silver.

I came across a troll in the grove who sat at the top of a vista, and tried to open a portal just as players got to the top (so when they hit F they would portal down, instead of viewing the vista).

Fortunately, I’ve seen my share of troll portals in WvW, so I just waited until it went away. The lengths that some greifers will go to amaze me though. Some players really need to get a life.

I’ll generally send everything in the chest that wasn’t soulbound or account-bound. Usually do the puzzles myself, but occasionally use a portal if someone’s throwing down portals just out of convenience- keeping only the empyreal fragments. They usually get a blue and a green, and some mid-level jeweler ingredient (again, the contents of the chests, usually in lions arch). Once got an exotic from a jp I was ported up, and sent that.

For the aetherblade JP and obsidian sanctum (the only two JPs I really get portals for), I usually tip 1 or 2g. If you can’t spare a gold or two, just tip what you can, if you feel so inclined.

As someone whom ports often, We’re all providing a service to our fellow players as an act of kindness. If another Mesmer wants to share the burden and take some of the workload, I’m more than happy to see it. No need to say anything at all, just start porting!

I agree. I portal regularly when I’m on my Mesmer. If another Mesmer comes along, that means we get to split the cooldown in half so people don’t have to wait as long. It also often means I don’t feel the need to stick around quite as long as the waves of people arrive.

Tips are appreciated, but not the reason I do it, so they’re not necessary. A simple “thanks!” is great.

As one who portals to the top of Sharkmaw JP on a regular basis I was stunned to see someone actually charging for a portal the other day. A sad day for Mesmers everywhere.

I find that the expectation of tips for clicking on the Skill 7 button twice, is just silly. For a while I was returning all my tips back to the donator but after thinking about it I considered that Accepting a gift honors the giver and I now just say thanks.

As someone who takes pride in having completed every single jp on my own, I’m impressed to see such a spirit of generosity. I feel this community (all gaming communities, really) have too much of a “don’t help others get what I have, I’ll feel less special!” attitude so this is awesome to see. I probably wouldn’t use the portals but I hope you mesmers keep it up!
