I’m coming back after a pretty lengthy absence. Within the first year of the game, I used to farm the three dragon world bosses, got my necromancer in a full set of Masterwork Carrion gear, completed a full condition build that was highly recommended at the time, and then I kind of stopped because I didn’t have a lot of time to play more often. Now I’m trying to get back into it with the new patch coming out, and I have no idea where to start.

I’m assuming I need to get new end-game gear, but I’m not sure where or how. I started researching Ascended gear recipes and that presented a similar problem: I have no idea where to start and I don’t think I have enough gold to craft any of that stuff (only 4 gold really). I do have about 90k reputation points, which I heard I could use to get fairly good gear, but I don’t know where or how exactly.

Is there a guide I can use or something to point me in the right direction? I was also looking for events and stuff to start farming, but I don’t know if my old gear will cut it in the current climate.

I wouldn’t worry about Ascended, it’s a minor increase over Exotic and mostly only really needed for higher level Fractals. It doesn’t sound like you want to dive right into the toughest fights.

Do you have karma built up? 252K karma gets you 6 pieces of temple armor from Orr, you just have to get to a temple vendor selling the stat set you want. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Temple_armor

Otherwise, look at Exotic gear on the Trading Post. It’s generally only a gold or two per piece of armor, plus a bit to get the runes you prefer over those in place on the armor.

I don’t know what you’d be “farming” with events, but if you go places you’re downscaled a bit (say, level 60ish zones?) then your level 80 green armor will be more than adequate for world PvE. You could also make LFG groups for lower level dungeons; just post that you’re new and it’s an all-welcome group and you should get nice people willing to help. Dungeons will help your wallet grow.

Thanks! I only have 90k karma (that’s what I meant by “reputation points”). But according to that link, I should be able to get at least two pieces with that. Then get some Exotics from the Trading Post. When I said “farming”, I meant like how back when I played before, I used to hang out around the world boss spawning zones and fought the bosses that showed up there, particular Claw of Jormag. I’ll start trying to join in on some easy dungeons so I can relearn how to play. Looks like I finally have a plan forming!

Ah, well, if you want to go for world bosses take a gander at http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/events.php?serverKey=119&langKey=1 — it’s a set of countdowns to world boss spawns. Note that it triggers on the pre-event start, so for instance Frozen Maw’s timer tells you when the grawl will start attacking the supplies, and it will be a few minutes before you’re actually fighting the Shaman.

If you have been out of the loop for awhile check out http://metabattle.com/ to see what other people are running in the various game modes. Then from there make or use a build that suits your style of play then you can gear accordingly.

If you had exotics before you left, you’re already caught up on gear. The good thing about gw2 is you can leave and come back, and still be at gear parity (at least in theory, ascended threw a bit of a wrench into that)

careful with karma/wvw gear, you cannot salvage it to get your runes back. This can be an issue for the more pricey stuff. Of course some of this stuff is much cheaper than the alternatives so you might be ok with that for a lot of the cheaper rune sets.

Overall a full set of exotics to craft is only something like 30-35g IIRC, of course TP is going to charge more than it costs to make, so if you can find a friend who has their crafting done and is willing you can send them the mats and they can make it (though of course be careful don’t send it to strangers )

The price of the gear on the TP really isn’t anymore pricey than making it yourself. There’s so much competition on the TP that selling crafted stuff has little to no profit.
