For a while I was kidding myself that the game was keeping me engaged, and the two week updates were just something extra. Now that there are no updates, and I’m done the two living world contents (after 2 days), I find myself completely at a loss for things to do.

If you’re still playing the game through the holiday break, what are you up to?

Can’t find much to do either. WvW is already starting to get boring being the same thing over and over with zergs.
I’m just wasting time doing the winter wonderland puzzle while waiting for some new mmo’s to release like Wildstar and Everquest Next.

I see. I’ve been doing a lot of WvW and working on finishing my Frostfang. I considered achievement hunting, like puzzles and exploration, etc. I have no desire to level another character.

I’m patiently waiting for EQN as well.

I’m playing WvW, jumping into PvP, leveling alts, crafting up ascended, and playing some Wintersday games when I have time.

’Tis a busy season!

Mostly WvW to tide me over till Anet releases some content or ESO/EQN come out, whichever happens first.

I’m using my glory boosters at PvP, leveling my 7th toon to 80, getting some WxP in my engineer and also making a new set for her, crafting an ascended armor for my ranger, doing the dailies, working in my dungeon master.
It is good that there is a break in the LS, I have so much to do and so little time, at least now I can focus in some stuff, mainly the leveling of my ele.

Charter Vanguard [CV] – HoD
Bardy Belzebuson – Ranger Sir Belzebu – Herald
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

Cash out. You’ve won the game. There’s nothing wrong with throwing in the towel. I haven’t a clue how long you’ve played, but if you’ve been playing since launch you’ve more than got your money’s worth out of GW2.

You’re not alone either. Many people, including myself, really only log in to read the patch notes and talk to friends online.

ANet just doesn’t have what it takes to keep the game interesting. No idea what happened to the GW1 crowd.

I think this game could of had the potential to stay very interesting and fun for an extremely long time if all the energy that they used on temporary cash shop focused events went to making mini expansions($10-30) and expansions($40-60) every 3-6 months to a year as well as some free updates. The cash shop would be ok if the money actually went to developing meaningful permanent content.
I was excited for gw2 during the pre launch times because the Anet CEO promised that they were going to focus on expansions soon after launch and that he wanted that to be a main source of income.(It was an interview on youtube where he was talking about why they don’t want a subscription fee with a member of the press inside the Anet hallway).
The excitement is gone now that I see they are focused on the living story and that an expansion is pretty much never going to happen now which is why I’m starting to think Wildstar made a right choice by choosing a subscription fee model as they will be able to create very large new and permanent content.

Sadly, its this type of…attitude, behavior…whatever for the reason of 2 week LS updates. Arenanet said that their data showed people stop playing after 2 weeks of a content update. So they sped it up. When people burn through it and then throw their hands up in the air wondering what to do next…well thats kind of where this all started.

If you are a self starter, you can find things to do.

On certain days I farm nodes all over tyria for an hour or two.
On certain nights i play WvW
On most nights I’ll run one or two dungeons.
On nights I don’t want to do anything, I’ll turn volume off, turn on a star trek episode and run around the QD champ train(against my better judgement).
On nights I want to work toward my ascended weaps, I’ll try to hit as many world bosses and temples as I can.
On nights I feel like being a completionist, I’ll work toward the rest of the jumping puzzles.
On all other nights, I am leveling my elementalist or engineer.

Ive got enough to do. Don’t need 2 week updates of fluffy crap. Id rather 3 month updates of legit stuff like skills, zones, mobs, lore, dungeons, etc.

Not to mention, tihs is a free to play game, non sub based. Arenanet is not required to keep your attention 24×7. They even said this, pre launch that its OK if you put the game down for a few days, a week, or a month.

While the gem store brings in enough $$ for them to support their 2 week cadence, they might not have the revenue that a sub game has to keep you going every single day for years.

Keep that in mind.

Welcome to the club.
I stopped playing Living Story months ago and there has been nothing new added for me quite some time, except for fractals, they’re still not worth the time investment though, poor rewards.
What I do : Champ Farm, WvW… and that’s it.

Back to having fun exploring zones on alts. Actually enjoying the game more now than I was when things were at a hectic schedule over the summer/autumn. I certainly feel more re-invested in the game world now – kinda how I felt at the turn of the year.

Can also try and catch up on dungeons I’ve missed and guild missions which I had stopped doing.

Lots to do

I started to get bored a while back so decided to “work” toward a legendary (or two?). Also, if zerging in WvW isn’t your cup of tea, you could find a few mates/friends and do some small group roaming. Personally, I find that the most fun, especially since our server is always hopelesslessy out-zerged, so 95% of zerg encounters end in crushing defeat. And yeah, that gets boring pretty quick, probably for both sides.

You could level up some alts.

You could help others learn dungeons and/or PvP, WvW.

Alternatively, take a break and play something else for a while. No one should force themselves to play a game. It’s your fun time. If you’re not having fun, move on to something … that is fun

As I have told my mother, who plays this game, when she stated angrily that she was sick of farming and had nothing else to do, I told her: Everything you do in this game in farming in one aspect or another. Farm loot, farm money, farm exp, farm tier materials.

It’s all one big farm, which is all any MMO is really, in my opinion.

Well, I’m done. I did everything I wanted, got everything I wanted, explored the whole world. I could force myself into mindless grinding to get ascended, but don’t care about that much. I like the skin, but it’s messed up so not really motivating like the phalanx did.
Did dungeons a lot of times., it’s boring with stacking and spamming . I started an asuran ele. I jump on the champ train once in a while. I’ll stay around for the 2nd LS arch to see if it’s worth it and I’m really curious about the feature update. Until then my little asura burns through everything.

Just finished Eye of Rodgort for my Necro
Taking my other 3 80’s for a much needed spin

leveling the last couple of levels on my Sylvari Mesmer and I am seriously thinking of making Vision of the Mists for her.

Leveling my Ele, slowly but surely
just made a new guardian

exploring the world and bumming around my favorite maps
hitting some world bosses and temples when I am in the mood
playing some bell choir that I still suck at

I am actually really enjoying myself at this point because I feel no pressure and can just do as I please

I had been getting bored as well. So…….I’ve been watching movies, reading, playing a couple console games. I login to GW2 to do my daily achieves, chat with Guildies while I do them, and thats about it. I got my monies worth though as it kept me entertained for a year (though my previous MMO had done so for 4 years).
Just kinda biding my time until the next wave of MMO’s. Still waiting for the one that rejuvenates the genre.

I get an overwhelming sense that everyone finds they have more fun/better things to do WITHOUT the Living Story just from reading this thread. Perhaps Anet should recognize this, as I’m positive it’s not just some ‘holiday anomoly’. Time gated grind for achievement points and meager rewards (I.e. the LS) is not fun and appears to only distract people from their real long-term goals which is where players get their TRUE sense of achievement and reward. “Play the game however you want!(as long as its the way we want you to)” was/is a rather deceptive strategy IMO. Have a Merry Christmas everyone and good luck with your holiday goals as we get our much needed break from The ‘Dying’ Story anxiety! Cheers.

To the A-net team, thanx for the hard work and effort this year and may you all have a wonderful break as well. I look forward to starting the new year with your minds refreshed and hope we can move forward together in a positive and engaging way to kick off 2014!
