Is Gw2 ever going to have an OCX/SEA server? It’s awfully hard to compete in PvP when your ping is like 250+. Which means reactionary dodges don’t occur on time and your pathing skills (like rush/headbutt/mace f1 for warrior) have wonky ranges and fall short from time to time.

Is there not enough representation from the OCX/SEA community to warrant our own server? I’ve always thought they were pretty big.

It would have to be 3 servers to accommodate WvW, and even then, that would result in the same 3 servers always matched up against each other. With only 1 server, that playerbase population would be excluded from WvW.

Good luck.

It would be too small to hold a PvP Ocx/SEA pvp thingy, unless you join gw2 china.

The question is whether ANet can sell enough new games to folks in OCX/SEA to justify the one-time start up costs and ongoing maintenance to host a new set of servers. Ironically, the existing OCX/SEA presence works against a change: people are already playing the game despite the latency.

There are enough OCX/SEA to help affect the outcome of WvW matches, but it doesn’t take that many total people to do that. As stated above, the absolute minimum number of WvW worlds for a new region would be 3. That would mean identical match ups every week, with absolutely no room for adjustment, i.e. if one server dominated, it would dominate for years.

That doesn’t address PvE, which would be similarly limited in the number of available players. With only 3 worlds worth of people, it might even be difficult to get together regular AB Multiloot sessions, never mind have enough for metas in several maps at once.

The expenses, however, would still be substantial. ANet would have to find and vet a server farm located in OCX/SEA. I would have to oversee the (ahem) overseas security and maintenance, which means additional ongoing costs to maintain. When there’s an emergency bug or other sorts of “all hands on deck” situation, people would have to cover those servers as well.

Worst of all, a single server farm wouldn’t help everyone in OCX/SEA. It’s 7800 km from Tokyo to Sydney compared to 8470 km Seattle to Munich — obviously that’s a lot better than the current situation, but it’s still pretty far for ping.

In short, there are substantial expenses and relatively little chance of substantial revenues to pay for it.

Impractical on Full scale server for a full PVE , WvW map. But since Gw2 is instanced . Maybe in the future we can play Raid , PVP with OCX region server. If A-net can tranfer account data through them.

That’s even less economical. The bulk of the cost is finding, vetting, and establishing space on a server farm, plus setting up the ongoing maintenance. Adding 10 or 20 “worlds” is a footnote after that.
