OOO! New Beta!
How are they going to stop people getting more than one invite dropped from mobs?
And if some one does get two, or more, I hope that they are not sellable on the market because I could see them going for insane amounts of gold.
It says you can’t trade them with other players, so no one is going to make any money off of this.
I must be going blind I did not spot that. Thank you for pointing that out to me.
Get your machines prepared for the lag!
lol I wonder if there will be even one map at 75% that isn’t completely full for the duration.
So why claim that it was an insult to the beta process when it wasn’t actually a beta test then?
Because that way he can claim it was an insult. (Logic isn’t the point here).
ANet may give it to you.
According to title Title of the thread i tought you were a quaggan…
Next to that: Awesome! I hope more people start doing Dry top now. Only high tiers in prime time currently
Nothing wrong with Quaggans! =P
Haze will be the most popular NPC in all of maguuma wastes. that guy draws in so many enemies.
Gates Of Madness
Jewelcrafting to 500!
Anet you trolls…., after I’ve spent countless hours farming dry top to finish the ambrite weapons… Luckily, I have barely started on my silverwastes achievements, so I guess I know what I’m doing this week
More reasons to go farming in silverwastes?
Hi ho Silverwastes, AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!
“Please stop complaining about stuff you don’t even know about.” ~Nocta
It is an interesting idea on how to give access to the beta. However, while I’m not worried whether I get into beta, as I’m happy to wait for release, I have a feeling this idea may cause more frustration than happiness.
Firstly, is using the RNG a wise choice when many players are already sick to death of bad luck in this game? Secondly, is the number of beta access drops limited? Or is it potentially possible that everyone will get in? If it is limited those who are unable to get on early enough, due to work or whatever, are not going to be pleased with another time limited event, especially after the last time that idea failed.
My hope is that the drops are unlimited, with the only limit being one per player, and that there is a good enough chance of getting the drop that anyone playing for an hour or two will be pretty much guaranteed access.
Anything less than that will likely cause anger from many. I hope Anet has balanced this right.
I don’t know that the RNG from having your name drawn from the Newsletter pool is any better. Many were unhappy they weren’t chosen last time.
Maybe some will feel they, at least, have a tiny bit more control over the process. I don’t know.
Regardless, it is luck either way; whether arbitrarily chosen from a pool of submissions, or arbitrarily chosen for a fortunate drop.
Thus…good luck.
Looks like Silverwastes and Dry Top will be humming with players!
ArenaNet: “We don’t want players to grind!”
ArenaNet: “Oh, and if you want early access to the expansion, just grind the grindiest map in the game over and over! If RNG favors you, you will get an invite!”
I guess we know what kind of content the expansion will have, if even the beta invites are hidden behind a grind wall.
You do realize that this isn’t “early access” to the expansion. It’s testing out bugs in it, specifically repeatable bugs. Which means they need people who are willing to do the same actions over and over to test out results.
Funny how the method to gain testers matches up so well with the type of testers they need, huh?

I’m betting the “limit” is more a range than a hard number and that the drop rate will be dynamically adjusted (up AND down) to ensure that the number falls within that range. I doubt that portals will stop dropping before the allotted time period is up (they may seem like they are due to a decreased drop rate)
meh. Unfortunately because of the location I wont be getting in. Oh well. /wrists
MF help to get this item ?
Well people for this Beta only one line works best.
“May the odds ever be in your favor”.
Good luck Beta hunting.
Sounds like exactly the sort of thing I never have a chance at- particularly as I won’t be logging in to GW2 much if at all this week (doing stuff on GW- all those skills!).
Good luck and I hope they make it a staggered release of tickets not ‘most grind, most served’.
I think it’s clever they’ve designed access around people who can play on Tuesdays.
Care to place bets what day the beta it opens up is going to be on? Probably during West Coast business hours too . (so the staff will be in office to watch without having to pay overtime)
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
A pretty kitten-poor way of getting people access in my opinion. They should just look at the hours played instead if their reasoning is getting active people in this game.
I’ve been grinding out Silverwastes and Dry Top for far too long with the various achievements and collections that I am way too burnt out to return to those maps anytime soon.
C’mon Anet. More and more of my eggs are being removed from your basket.

Because 50,000 hours played in the past is more valuable than “shows up when called” and “can clearly be free during business hours on Tuesday”?
Not in any universe I’m aware of.

Does anyone know, what time this start, like EST or any time, I like to know, to be ready to play there?
Time to do vw until i get a drop. If i don’t get one, at least i’ll be getting decent gold out of it.
Well, this is surely an amazing idea. We definitely need more RNG in the game so keep it coming. Make sure that it’s in some select regions only because herding people to certain areas has never kittened off the players before either.
Looks like I’ll be spending a couple hours in silverwastes tomorrow.

So… how should they give beta access then?
Signing up to a list and hope for an invite is just as much RNG.
At least in this case it guarantees that the invited people actually actively play the game.
Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
Too bad 90% of the Silverwastes mobs don’t drop loot at all.
Chance of getting one of those items is probably so low u got a better chance of getting a precursor for every legendary before one drops.
I could live with that….
I wonder what time it starts? Reset on that day? Noon, pacific time? And when does it end?
Well it is patch day, so I would assume (if there is a patch) that it will start after that.
Is there any confirmation on this?
Also…there’s a patch day? We don’t get a patch every week or anything do we? I must not be noticing…
I don’t think we get one every week, but it makes sense that there would be a patch of some sort to add these drops to the game.
And when they DO patch, it’s usually a Tuesday, right?

There is a loose schedule of a content patch every other Tuesday. They were keeping to it pretty close with the living story, but then it starting being every 3 or 4 weeks sometimes. But typically if they are going to do a update, it’s on a Tuesday.
If you check the day of the week on the Game Release Notes you will see that most of them are on a Tuesday.
ANet may give it to you.

So… you’re saying that people outside of the two areas affected by this are not actively playing the game?
i would love it if beta tokens only drop for ppl with less then 5K AP or less then 100% luck, the outcry of farmers and zergers would be a joy to watch
If you’re not grinding in silverwastes, you’re just not playing the game right!
I’m wondering where the drops come from. If they’re from champ bags/boxes, SW is probably the place to be. If they’re from mob drops, it’s all about Dry Top, since most mobs in SW don’t drop anything.

What’s the correlation between 5k AP and farming/zerging? Just playing casually but continously from early after launch, you can easily get to 15k+ without any need to farm/zerg explicitely. Now if you had said 25k AP …

It’s from mob drops in both areas.

Dry Top it is!
I don’t have a lvl 80 …
I actually love this system for choosing Beta access. Good job on thinking outside the box.
What’s so outside the box about saying: “guys, go farm these maps because our metrics say the population of these zones is declining”?
I’ve never seen this method, used, have you? And hey, if it kills two birds with one stone, why is that a bad thing?
Anet has stated that many of the new zones will have meta events like Dry Top and Silverwastes. I think this idea is brilliant even if I don’t luck into the drop. Consider the pool of players Anet targets with this scheme;
- All members are level 80
- All members have experience working meta events
- All members are available for this timeslot to actively play
- Many members are likely to have Commander Tags
- All members are actively playing at the moment and not just waiting on a email
- Some members may even be from coordinated guilds (i.e. Dry Top L6 guild)
- I’m certain there are far more metrics involved that I missed.
Please be honest with yourself. This pool is far better to test/stress a meta heavy zone than a group of twice monthly loggers and World Boss farmers.
It is a neat idea, I really like it. And I agree with the idea that it is no more or less random than choosing people the standard way. However, random selection by the devs is an unseen process, psychologically out of reach, and players tend to just accept that they may not get picked. However, if the random selection is down to some (perceivably) broken RNG system in game, players may not take so kindly to the results and may blame the game rather than bad luck. I just feel that the in game RNG is not perceived in a positive light and this may create a negative backlash.
Like I say, I am happy to wait for pre-order early access or something, and getting into beta earlier would be a nice gift but not essential to my happiness. I am very keen to try the beta and give my feedback, however, so I hope I get a portal drop later when I get chance to play late tonight. And I hope that this method of beta selection does not backfire on Anet or cause too much of a negative response, because it is nice to see them trying new things.
I GOT THE GOLDEN TICKETTTTTT!!
Charlie and the chocolate factory? :-D
Wat r u, casul?
In terms of when this portal hunt commences, it may be significant that the Gem Store Promotions special sales all end in 1 hour 40 minutes, ie 9 am Pacific.
Or it may not. But it’s something to keep an eye on

All members are willing to repeat the same activity over and over. A necessity when bug testing.
are ppl from the first beta automatically in the second, or not? thx for the answer.
I like to know too !
This will make the third time it has posted in this thread. Hope it’s the charm.

This invitation is for this Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns testing event only. This does not guarantee access to future events.
Trogdor, I’m confused. If I was invited to the first beta, am I automatically invited to this one, too? :P
<3 Guhracie
Gave me quite the laugh. It was louder than it should have been as I was not expecting your response at all. Thanks!
