Let’s take a quick glance back in history to see what obsidian armor was worth.

- 105 ecto
- 105 obsidian
- 60k
- some random materials
Grand total: almost 2,000,000 gold piece or 2000k or 2 full banks.

And it wasn’t like gold income was high in GW1 either … Personally, I simply saved up for over a year before I first managed to put together the 105 ecto and 105 obsidian. So saving up quite a while for a legendary … not a big deal.

IMHO, the problem is with the players. They want these things yesterday while they are actually meant for next year.

I believe most of the complaints are about precursors. At least over time you’ll have everything you need for your Obsidian armor, but the only guaranteed way to get a precursor is to buy it.

Untrue. You can go for it yourself in several ways.

But the same with obsidian. Farming 105 ecto takes a lot of time. Much easier was to simply buy them.

The problem is that the amount of money you could earn in GW1 was proportional to your skill.

In GW2 you can perform the most mind-numbingly easy and boring tasks and still earn as much money as a highly coordinated team that can blaze through any dungeon extremely quickly.

The problem is in GW1 there wasn’t as much RNG and in GW2. A few hours of farming always net you some ectos, so you were always making at least some progress. In GW2 you might spent days and not get a single lodestone…

In GW1 running a few dungeons always net you some good gear you could sell for money, or at least in Eotn dungeons you found rare materials, in GW2 you might run 5 dungeons and get nothing worthwhile.

In GW1 you only needed to acquire the components to craft your armor. In GW2, after getting your components you still have to gamble to get your Mystic Clovers…

So basically the big difference was RNG

Back when I played GW1 full FoW armor cost 800k, maybe prices inflated later on to get the figure you have. But anyway, you could make a monk or necro, get them to max lvl and max gear in around 10 hrs and go 55 farm several different locations that would earn you tons of gold. I was able to get full FoW armor, but I’m not trying for a legendary because the requirements are simply rediculous.

Must have been before UWSC was nerfed. Yeah, ecto prices were cut in half.

Seems to me like, you underestimate the determination of certain players.

And, a year to get obsidian armor?

Anyway, lets imagine for a moment that a similar scenario to this played out in GW1. You farmed all your shards and ecto, and bought all the other mats. but, before you could forge your armor you had to obtain a mini mallyx from a coffer of whispers (for example). See where this is heading? Yes: Kamadan spam listings for this item at mini vizu prices. So, unless you are already extremely wealthy the only thing to do is to continue to farm DoA for gems (for coffers), in the hope that you get lucky.
Welcome to the world of RNG precursors. :-)

this is essentially the situation. You could buy mats for ectos, or you could hunt them, or do a combination of both.
But legenadaries are not incremental, and there is no progress towards them. The only method of obtaining them that will work consistently for everyone is buying them on TP.

some people get precursors from random mob, or in mystic forge, some people never will, thats the nature of the lottery. Sure some one will win, but with odds like 1/1000 attempts, with replacement, the amount of times some one gets it on their first try, is just as likely as someone getting it on their 1000000 try, and we ve all heard about the people who got it on their first or second try have we not? for everyone of them, there is another guy who could never get it.
Rng with replacement is ok when you have large chances, but would you really enjoy paying one dollar per marble when you have to pick 1 marble out of a bag of 1 thousand, and you always put back the marble?

It not a good design for what is so far, the only endgame goal. people like to see progress towards a goal, or their chances of success going up as they become better at the game, precursors represents neither.

You could’ve solo’ed or do uwsc and get everything needed in a week (if you nolifed it) or two. Making gold in gw1 was much easier than it is in gw2 where exotics drop once per century and 50% of them are acc bound…

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

I was playing for about 2-3 years before I decided to get my first set. I remember that I started around February and ended in May so it took me some time (school, family, etc). That being said, patience is something that is rare these days.

I really wished they made legendaries more difficult. I think the first legendaries started popping up within a month for those hardcore players. I was hoping, for a hardcore player, it would take at least 6 months :|

Compare to prophecies where uwsc did not yet exist and farming UW solo netted 1 ecto if you were lucky.

Untrue. You can go for it yourself in several ways.

Are you referring to the Mystic Toilet? Because it most certainly does NOT guarantee a precursor.

In prophecies you could earn lots of gold running people to certain area. Also you could sell/buy stuff, i dunno how much those people earned doing that dungeon near droknar but there were lots of ways to earn gold if you knew how.
