So I have noticed that no one does the Temple of Balthazar anymore and this is on a few servers I visited, and the orrian jewellery boxes are a waste so how does a person get 250 obsidian shards now for the legendary?
I heard the silver wastes is a spot how consistent is the farming out there? or is there a better way?

The silver wastes drop obsidian, dragonite, empyreals and bloodstone like candy. I play SW because I love the fight and my GF wants Luminescent. I have so much of it it’s not funny.

So should I save crests and buy the shards or take my chances with the chests?

I would go with the chests. It is 5 crests per key with a chance for 2-3/10 shards and 50 crests per shard.

250 keys later 16 obsidian shards………….I hate Arena Net right now.

Temple of Balthazar is still done…however attendance is often dictated by the map rewards for the week. If charged lodestones are in the list for example, then straits of devastation is highly populated.

You could always just do the Temple of Balthazar. You say ‘no one does it anymore’, but I’m in the zone every day to kill the Eye of Zhaitan, and the Temple is open around 50% of the time. Even the times where it’s not open, the events to open it are often in progress.

Even if I could find a world where its open I dont have the karma to buy much maybe 10 at the most the kitten events in SW only grant like 300 karma. I miss getting jugs of liquid karma from dailies I have no idea why they took that out i the time I was gone.

Do the daily fractals every day with the Karmic Infusion and the Karma guild buff (as well as wintersday buffs). With a high enough personal level doing all the daily levels (9 islands) can give like 40k. Probably the highest rate of karma in the game.

This is a great, steady and practically effortless way to garner shards by just double clicking an inventory item once per day when you log in. You get three chances per day, one for each expac currency. Look for bags of Obsidian, they come in stacks of 3,5 or 10. You could get theoretically anywhere from 0-30 in a day.

Keep checking the map in Orr and drop in occasionally. I’ve been scanning it for 2 weeks and a couple of nights ago there was a group completing it Also, keep checking the LFG for Taxis’ to the event.

I now own 700 Obs Shards just to be safe lol

Flash is right, spend an hour or two one saturday doing events in the SW. You can even just LFG to the 80-90% SW the whole time and do VW over and over again Then get on a chest train for another couple of hours and you’ll probably have your stack. Plus 20+ gold in loot depending on how fast it runs. It’s not ‘fun’ but throw something on the TV and go. I typically spend an hour a week in there just to keep a steady income, and I’ve got thousands of shards. Shame is all you can do with the other ascended mats is throw them away.

Thanks, Kastiel, I have the converter but was not aware of the additional tabs. Still need to grind out Nuhoch rep but for now I have two extra chances per day for cheap shards!

there are other places but that said people still do the balthazar meta
if you go there and it isnt done maybe consider putting out an lfg and getting it done

I know Balth is done, I was short three kitten shards and had to do the Entire kitten Meta to get them!!! There are times it takes a bit to get the events going, but it is certainly done!

Obsidian shards are why I’m working on my precursor now instead of gift of fortune. I have gift of bolt and mastery and 59 mystic clovers. If I keep farming Silverwaste and doing some HoT maps then by the time I have the pre I’ll have more than enough shards, ectos, and money for coins to get the remaining clovers.

Just opened 30 chests in SW and only one had shards (3). I got tons of empy and dragon. They must have nerfed it. I used to get them in every other chest if not every one.

Nope that’s rng. 30 chests, 3 shards is actually pretty good! I sometimes have 250 chests and only 10 shards. I would be happy about such a high amount.

Edit: @under me: Oh yes. 2t account has over 1.000 obsis and no use for them. Main account has always only 0 no matter how much I farm.

I wish those things weren’t account bound. I have ridiculous amounts of them. They’re the kind of item I’m loathe to just destroy because one day I might need them.

Assuming you have guild commendations and maxed out Marketplace you can get 15 a day for 3 commendations. On extremely lucky days you can get 30 for 3 commendations.

It just depends on how many you have saved up.

I have over 2500. I haven’t used any in years.
