Hi all,

As I an almost exclusively playing WvW, I was wonderig if it’s possible to obtain Ascended Armor set and Weapons from WvW?

As aNet always says that they allow people to play the hame the way they want, I certainly hope that this is possible

Yes they drop from loot and. Chests as well as you get crafting materials

I acquired one of my Ascended drops in WvW, so yes, one can obtain Ascended gear in WvW.

You will get a random drop of an ascended armour or weapon box in WvW, but the stats will be random as well. This will not allow you to gear up your character with the stats you want them to have.
The workaround is the recipe for the Mystic Forge to change stats.

Do get a set you desire, you have to rely on ascended crafting (in PvE, no crafting stations left in WvW).
There is also no reward track that can get you an ascended item as a final reward.

WvW is the only place I have had ascended items drop. Admittedly I don’t do Fractals or Tequatl much so that’s not surprising.

But the chances of getting stuff you can actually use is pretty low so you’re probably better off crafting them. Fortunately WvW also drops the materials you’ll need (or equipment which can be salvaged to give the materials.)

While its technically possible to obtain asc gear in WvW, it is neither reliable nor in a timely manner. Within several hundred hours of WvW i have not gotten even close to a full set in drops and know of nobody else who did.
PvE is the only way to acquire either the drops (fractals) or the mats to craft directly (yes, you can also get the mats in WvW. is it even remotely comparable to PvE? No)

Got a full ascended kit from the rank chests. But do not rely on it as drop chance is rather low so if ya want a full kit, go craft.

What rank are you? I just reached WvW lvl 100 and got only 1 kittenty ring. Is it possible to change the stats of the ring?

I am currently rank 2909, had the boxes before hitting 2500. Some people i know are 4k+ and haven’t had half of what i got (lucky me yay). And nope can’t change stats of rings and stuff, only on gears/weapons. However you can infuse/attune rings for 2 more slots.

You can but relying on those drops is a bad idea because you have no control over when it drops. I would say from experience maybe an ascended weapon/armor every 200 levels or so. Useless jewelry being more common. But if you have bad luck it could just be never.

I would definitely say craft the weapons. Weapons make a bigger difference and is cheaper to craft. Waiting for armor to drop is fine as it’s so expensive anyways and the stat boost is smaller compared to the rest.

Ascended drops are pretty rare in all game modes. You can earn the tools to craft them via WvW though, and crafting Ascended gear remains the most reliable way of getting it, no matter which mode you play.

You can get ascended drops at a decent clip in WvW if you are just playing the game for fun and not being aware of potential ascended until you get one. I’m rank 260 and have gotten 5 ascended pieces. Best way to maximize this is:
1) Birthday booster
2) Guild WXP booster
3) Candy Corn Gobbler (yes the cooldown is a PITA, but its worth it. Just spam it while walking to where you need to go in WvW)
From this, you gain levels pretty fast and can get you some ascended a bit faster through WvW alone. Crafting is the most sure way, but its kitten expensive especially now with the crazy hardened leather prices.

In short, just rock your exotic gear, max out your WXP buffs and just have fun. If you aren’t roaming, Ascended gear just doesn’t matter that much. Proper positioning and situational awareness are the keys to success in larger group fights. The gear will come, and besides, when it does its much more thrilling than just blowing gold/cash to craft it.

I’ve gotten 2 pieces in WvW, which matches the 2 I’ve gotten in general PvE. Unfortunately, the WvW chests I got both from now seem to award Tomes, which I find useless.

note: crafting in this games stinks.

There could be a set way to obtain Ascended items at a vendor, I have played WvW since games launch and never have I seen an Ascended drop, in fractals I have received 5 and pvp I have received 11 (6 of those being in the same week)

I have 2 bank tabs filled with ascended rings, 2 and half full armor sets and about 7 weapons. All from loot drops in WvW and PvP.

Drop rate is very low though, I might only get an ascended once a week to once a fortnight, mostly it’s rings.

My husband and I rarely do wvwvw. But we do occasionally for dailies and monthly back in the days when they were monthlies. My husband was lucky enough to unlock light and medium armour set from wvwvw rank up rewards.

Rank up chests are your best bet for this, and for that, constant xp boosters.

Even then it’ll take you forever to land even half a set. It’s not reliable at all. From what I hear, my guess is 99% of players won’t land a full armor set in 3 hard years of wvw. It’s that rare a drop. Though I have had 1 drop in the maybe 6 months i’ve been doing it.

It’s that bad for ascended armor drops.

WvW in general has horrible returns, compared to PVE, in terms of gold value. 1/10 in my opinion, hour for hour of play.

I say this because you might want to just stomach the PVE you seem to be avoiding, and do a few hours of proper farming/auric a day.

You can create a new armor piece every other day this way, easy. Unless you want celestial, in which case it will take a while longer for the quartz.

Maybe you have all ascended gear though and were just wondering with your question.

In that case, the quick answer is… yeah, it all can drop.

If you need the ascended gear still though, just make it all.

Literally hundreds of times faster than waiting for it to drop at your feet.

I know 3 people who have fully geared 2-3 toons each in ascended solely from PvP and/or WvW — all from Rank-up chests. However, as others have suggested, it’s hardly reliable. Even running T4 fractals isn’t all that reliable, even though it has the best drop rate in the game for ascended.

Your best best remains crafting.

Ah right thankyou, I just checked it using demo, so didn’t upload my stats but apparently I’m number 1 Yakslapper, sad thing is I never liked that title anyway, It was much better when it was Ultimate Interceptor, I really wanted that for my thief.

P.S I’m sure there is people with higher dolys killed that just didn’t upload their stats as I haven’t.
