I have been playing the game for a while and I noticed a trend of what race makes what class and so on. Charr is most often a Warrior. But the thing I want to know, is what Profession the Charr(or other races) are most often not. For me, Charr mesmer is a pretty rare sight.

So guys, what race/profession is the strangest combination and why? Let me know down below!

I made a charr mesmer for that reason, love it. Charr elementalists could currently be frowned upon, lore-wise, considering the Flame Legion history.

Another odd combo I quite like is a sylvari engineer. Nothing beats a plant wielding a flamethrower!

I rarely see Sylvari Engineers. But there is a difference between strange and rare. For exampe I think Charr Guardian is kinda strange but it is not a rare sight.

It’s not like the skin of a sylvari is dry. I am pretty sure human skin is as flammable as sylvari “skin”

A former Guildmate of mine was kind of a statistics nut, and spent a couple hours in front of the Lion’s Arch gate hub counting characters and classes. His highly non-scientific poll indicated the following, listed in order of Most Common to Least Common. This was on Tarnished Coast, which likely skews the conclusions substantially from what’s typical for the game overall, since that’s the unofficial RP server.

Human:
Most common – Guardian
Very common – Mesmer, Thief
Common – Warrior, Elementalist
Uncommon – Ranger, Necromancer
Rare – Engineer.

Norn:
Most common – Warrior
Very common – Guardian, Ranger
Common – Necromancer, Thief
Uncommon – Elementalist, Mesmer
Rare – Engineer.

Sylvari:
Most common – Thief
Very common – Mesmer, Ranger
Common – Guardian, Necromancer
Uncommon – Elementalist, Warrior
Rare – Engineer

Asura:
Most common – Elementalist
Very common – Engineer, Necromancer
Common – Guardian, Mesmer
Uncommon – Ranger, Thief
Rare – Warrior

Charr:
Most common – Warrior
Very common – Thief, Engineer
Common – Mesmer, Guardian
Uncommon – Elementalist, Ranger
Rare – Necromancer

It seemed interesting to me that the only race where the Most Popular observed class wasn’t also the class of the Destiny’s Edge member was the Norn. What’s up with that, Eir?

Former Guild Wars 2 fan. RIP, ArenaNet’s integrity.

Sylvari Engis are the weirdest imo. Haven’t seen one yet.

I think male Norn look goofy in light armor so any male Norn ele, mes, or necro (tho I see a lot of Norn male necro actually) looks weird. Can’t see a Norn boasting of his epic battles whilst donning a dress (robe!).

Asura warriors are weird lore-wise but honestly look great. Their attack animations are awesome too, watching a tiny guy whirling around in the air weilding a butter knife (ahem, greatsword).

I was simply stating my opinion that they seem weird. Norn water elementalists fit well enough with the lore…it’s just that huge, broad shouldered Norn look funny as a caster class. I bet they get made fun of a lot as children. =)

It’s worth spending gold on an extra character slot just to watch an asura warrior do 100 blades. Also asura guardian doing the “hammer jump” move.

Charr Guardian isn’t uncommon but it seem kind of weird. I know the faith thing doesn’t have to be based on gods, they could have faith in in their warband or something but the description of the skills and the stuff they say just seems weird for a Charr. Asura Warriors and Guardian too tho they are funny to watch.

Why is Charr thief odd? they have the ash legion which presumably is mostly made up of thieves or similar…or do you just mean what they look like?

I have a norn engineer and part of the reason I enjoy playing her is it’s an odd combination.

Originally it was just that I managed to match up all the other races and professions I wanted to play and those were the odd two, but then I managed to work it into her backstory and got really into the idea.

I also have a charr thief but I thought that would be a fairly common choice considering the archetype thief and Ash Legion are fairly similar.

Also I suspect part of the reason sylvari engineer’s are rare is that last I saw sylvari was the least played race and engineer was the least played class. So they’re a minority of a minority even if they weren’t an odd combination.

Although personally I think they make perfect sense from a lore prespective – the sylvari are fascinated by everything, of course some would be into gadgets and potions and explosions.

I have a Sylvari engineer, and I don’t think its strange at all. Engineers are explorers and seeking to expand their knowledge; engineers, lore-wise, are intelligent, like to fiddle around with things, create new inventions, etc. Sounds to me like the Sylvari exploring merely one form of study; but thats just me.

I mean they look odd. A big bulky cat doing a bunch of acrobatics. A couple other posters have pointed out the Death Blossom animation. And then I have a lot of trouble picturing a charr with a mask or hood. That’s all.

I didn’t think about the lore much when I was making my alts. I thought it would be cute. The charr even had special text written if they ran across an asuran ranger. Paraphrased. I have never seen an asuran ranger, and you reply yeah we are rare" I found that out in the beta weekends. It’s a fun contrast when the pets are bigger than the master. So at launch I made a small female asuran necro to be a minion master. So cute!

Let’s see, I’ve got 9 characters so far.

Asura Male: Warrior, Ranger, Mesmer
Charr Female: Elementalist
Norn Female: Guardian
Norn Male: Warrior, Necromancer, Thief
Sylvari Female: Engineer

I’d say the only ones that are out of place are the Salad Engineer, the Asura Ranger and Warrior and my female Charr Elementalist. Female Charr only because I can count on two fingers the number of other female Charr I’ve seen out there. Of all the Rangers I see very few of them are Asura, they’re mostly Human. The Engineer’s next on my list to level.

I personally have seen the full spectrum quite often enough. I must play too much or the population on my server is so high everything looks about the same.

Actually both those things probably adds up to my personal experience with this sorta question. Looks like we are all unique.
