Odd things that break your immersion?
Wings ruin my immersion!

Uh… I’m sorry, but… immersion?
Asura. I can’t believe the other races haven’t united to exterminate them.
Wings do, as well as any Bow-user that doesn’t have a quiver. It itches my eyes so bad
Getting stuck on some tiny bump in the landscape that is indistinguishable from the rest of the ground (especially in snow) which any normal person would just walk over.
Hearing Guild Wars 1 music. I love the GW1 OST but so much of it was recycled into GW2 and I find it jarring when it pops up.
Especially if the music is out of place, like hearing Sands of Kryta in Frostgorge Sound or the music from pre-searing Ascalon in Orr. The regions in GW1 all had their own set musical theme and it helped set the atmosphere. In GW2 it’s all just dumped into a giant pile.
It makes me glad that HoT has its own, new music.
Uh… I’m sorry, but… immersion?
It is what make you feel like you are in and part of game world. Some thing can damage that feel. This is what OP talk about.
Hearing some other player’s male sylvari ele shout with my toon’s voice. It’s disconcerting. I don’t mind hearing the shouts of other players – it adds to the social feeling – but I wouldn’t mind not hearing the battle cries of another player if they’re using the exact same profession-gender-race.

invisible walls. hills that appear climbable but aren’t.
Seeing this blue box on the upper level of Rata Sum.
JUST KIDDING!
The 5000th time your character claims to outrun a centaur.
SAB skins, wings, neon-hair charr, kitty looking cute charr, cute asura, Hulk, Spider-Man and Sailormoon cosplay characters.
Any player with wings just makes me wonder why the hell do these things exist. There’s no flying at all which makes zero sense for there to be wings. They look so kitten kitten y.
“Boingg”

I don’t think there’s meant to be much in the way of immersion with items like that, lol
I don’t have any immersion so nothing breaks it.
ANet may give it to you.

I don’t really get immersed but the massive white name above my head when I try to view ally names. Literally the worst update yet

GW2 ? Immersion ?
Not a cash shop item, so it don’t exist.
For me it’s the fear mechanic. I find it so jarring, it makes me fully aware that I’m sat in front of a computer, waiting to re-gain control of my character.
Oh, and that unbelievably annoying NPC in SE path 3 “No No No” I’d love a side mission to hunt him down and slice off his tongue, that would be a trophy I might actually hold onto. I can’t believe it hasn’t been patched out o.O I actually take off my headset now at that part, I just can’t be dealing with that like.
So what are the things that break other peoples immersion, I’m curious.
wow…
how can you ask for the “No No No” bug to be fixed….
thats the best part about SE ! ! !

things that are really immersion breaking:
invisible walls!
especially when they are put around tiny rocks/hills in the middle of the map … that wouldnt lead to any unintended area or glitchspot anyway….
it just kills the exploration and immersion feeling so much

It’s a silent plea to make the Tengu a playable race … I guess?
I have and use wings, tentacles, Zodiac gear, SAB stuff and more on some of my characters. I don’t see them as immersion breakers for me, I do not dwell on the exact lore of the game but I make my own story for my characters and have reasons why they have the stuff. When I see other players I immagine that they too have reasons for their looks so it does not break my immersion. And also I do not RP, I only enjoy the game as a game so who realy cares as long as stuff does not impact on the story.

I raise you a: ’It’s just a feint, they are testing your defenses’ , for me that was the most cringeworthy line from that mission. :P
Also the wings, bunny ears and all those hideous fuzzy hoods and quaggan backpacks. Aaaargh!
I hate that end boss NPC in the snow fractal that keep saying “feel your weakness” or something, he keeps saying it every darn time he comes down.. thought they would tone him down already :P
Another thing that breaks my immersion is how everything is so pretty out there, but yet we cant duel one another.. yea a topic to be discussed elsewhere.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore

being told by an NPC what I have done even If I were witnessing it by myself… [LS season 1 summary cutscene]
“STRENGHT OF THE PACK!” [that on is really nasty… when they were making this skill a shout they should have do the same thing as they did with heal as one aka just add “we” on the beginning and “!” on the end “We Rampage as one!” actually sounds like a shout in oposition to “strenght of the pack!”]

Ugh both of these kitten me off too, actually.
“Heal as one!” would have worked fine as a shout without the we-. With it, it sounds like a villainous taunt. “You think you can dispatch us one at a time? Hah! We Heal As One!”
Rampage as one didn’t even need the shout conversion – if they didn’t like the skill name, ‘Strength of the Pack’ works fine without being a shout.

Game itself. I need good story, interesting world, or at least an explanation why my eyes fly behind my character to get some sort of immersion.
Bunny ears…..
invisible walls. hills that appear climbable but aren’t.
This. Thiiiiiis. The most loathsome thing I run across while exploring in an MMO. There are unclimbable hills that look like I should be able to claw my way up, but some ‘legal’ paths that totally don’t look climbable at all. The former inevitably teaches me to stop searching for the latter.

Or maybe “Rampage with me!”
Or "We Rampage!
Or, you know, just simply “Rampage!”
That was my favorite skill
At least it sounds as lame as they made it.
Strength of the pack? Yeah a pack of juicy fruit
But then, they hate rangers with a burning passion so its not really surprising.

My max hight norn guardian, with a 2h hammer…fighting an asura.
They need to get an animation based on what hitting a frog on a rock with a giant mallet would look like.

The lack of aesthetic variation in a game that apparently prides itself on it’s aesthetic variation.
Most hubs are just a 90’s rave party gone wrong. People running around waving glowsticks everywhere with way to many people wearing wings and that one dodgy dude just standing in the corner watching…with a pair of aviator sunglasses on.
When my female norn warrior says “Gaining Adrenaline!” while she actually losing it.
oh and wings.
Most things actually don’t bother me. When a world has wide-spread use of magic, and magitech it’s not that hard to include things like holographic wings, tiny robot pets and crazy fashion into the lore.
Certainly easier than when I used to do crazy role-play where people could make their character anything they wanted – including the god of insanity, a blob of sentient slime and a mutant cat/bat/human hybrid riding a dragon (that one was mine).
Oddly enough it’s mainly little things that bother me. Like running over to a tree or plant node I want to harvest, using a bunch of fire skills to clear the enemies and then realising if the game was more realistic I’d have just utterly destroyed the materials I came to get.
Or being able to walk/swim calmly through freezing cold rapids without being swept away or frozen to death. (This one gets me in several games, I’ve wasted a lot of time in Skyrim looking for safe places to cross rivers before I remember I can just walk across the deepest, fastest, rockiest part.)
Also my main character has very similar hair to me (waist length, mostly straight, worn loose) and yet she never gets it blowing in her face or tangled in her clothes/weapons or caught in bushes….
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
actually the biggest immersion breaker is when I’m running though maps. Lets say my minion decides to attack something because the AI is awesome. I now run slower for no reason.
I get if an archer sticks a slow on me as I pass by…but I don’t see how getting a glancing hit passing by should slow me down.
Disconnections. It is like waking up in a middle of a nice dream.
And a single voice acting for each character gender and race.

Honestly…there’s not much left to “immerse” you in this game….how about the other way around.
What immerses you in GW2?
mounts, capes and duelling
Nothing breaks immersion more than these three horrible things.

What immerses you in GW2?
Playing solo, going offline mode and just exploring a fantastically created game-world……while avoiding hubs at all costs.
To be honest playing this game like an offline RPG works for me with a sprinkle of co-op when I run into random people. That’s the most fun I get now-a-days and it reminds me just how immersive this game can actually be if you avoid the rat-race and work-simulator aspects of this game…..at least until a zerg turns up.
Asura. I can’t believe the other races haven’t united to exterminate them.
Why? Wouldn’t they unite against the humans instead? The other races view human empathy and compassion as a weakness. However, what they don’t know is that despite human overall inferiority to the others (weaker or dumber depending on the race) the humans have heart and fighting spirit to make up for it. Humans are the Rocky of Tyria while Norns are that Russian guy, Charr Mr.T, and Asura Apollo Creed.
People talking about immersion. I mean when I’m immersed in a fantasy world nothing pulls me out of it like people being all meta and fourth wall breaking.

YES. It’s like a nightmare. First you see people start running in different directions, then you try and press a skill and it loads forever, you try and type something but it doesn’t work … ugh, horror-inducing.
