Q:

From Guild Wars 2 > Forums > Support > Tech Support

I seem to be getting no help here so I – again – ask if “is there a way for me to relocate this thread to the GW2 Discussion thread w/o getting in trouble for reposting?”

NOTE:
If I do not get a response by the next time I check this – I will repost in the GW2 Discussion section – so please understand that I requested confirmation on whether or not this okay to do – and thus w/o a response I should not be penalized for doing what I was never told not to do.

Therefore:

I’m looking for an official stance from Anet about the FOV.

If I use Windowed Mode and shrink the vertical of my screen I get an increased FoV. It’s small, but it exists.

I have heard of, seen, but not tried programs that alter FoV settings. I’ve seen the FoV post at the top of this forum (only the last tab), but it doesn’t state if FoV mods are allowed. I realize there was a patch to the FoV awhile back, but it was rather insignificant in comparison to the FoV mods that are out currently (seen on youtube).

Will there be allowances made for using FoV mods, or does Anet have plans underway to increase customization to the current FoV settings? Ideally this is for WvW AC’s, Treb’s, and Cata’s, but there are PvE applications for this as well (jumping puzzles for example)

These mods seem like they would be great additions to the game and give it a new elevated and unique style of gameplay.

Alternative suggestions would be to create a sky view down for these Siege units that is restricted to the full range of each weapon (and perhaps a visible and increasing vector line from you as the origin to the destination based on overall charge of things such as cata’s and trebs in the sky view to help better gauge your shots).

Anyways, I would love an official stance on this subject.

Thanks,
Dragon

A:

Dragon Ruler: You won’t get a yes or a no on ANY third party apps.
This is thier official stance on the matter concerning any and all software not delevoped or provided by Arena Net.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/SweetFX-and-Co/first#post656283

Mark Katzbach:
Hey all, allow me to quote Gaile Gray relating to this and all third-party programs:

Gaile Gray.6028:

ArenaNet cannot approve or review or “vet” any third-party programs. Our general policy is that anything that gives advantage is forbidden; anything that imbalances the game in favor of one player over another is strictly disallowed. With that said, we are aware that some utilities help players without impacting others, that is, they do not give anyone an advantage over someone else.

Our development team is not able to review third-party programs to kitten their components or give them any sort of approval. We make our policies clear in our User Agreement, Rules of Conduct, and the Conduct Breaches and Outcomes document, which you can find in the Legal Documentation section of our website: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/ You should know the following:
1. If you chose to use any third-party program, you do so at your own risk.
2. We cannot offer support if the third-party program impacts Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 and, for instance, makes the game unplayable.
3. If you choose to use what you believe to be a “benign,” or non-advantage-giving program, be sure to get it from a legitimate source to protect yourself from the possible addition of cheats or key-loggers.

The best way for a player to kitten whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
• “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
• “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
• “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”

If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”—or even “maybe”—then we strongly recommend that you do not use the program because to do so may place your Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 account in jeopardy.

In the future, we will be working directly with the community to develop app support for Guild Wars 2, so stay tuned for more info!

This is our only stance on this matter. I’m sorry but we cannot and will not investigate third-party software to declare it safe or unsafe, as this takes away resources from our primary responsibilities. If you choose to use third-party software, you do so at your own risk.

I asked the same question directly and took out a ticket and was told to put it on the forum. Well here is the same question asked by another person.

here is one more post about it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Official-FOV-Stance/first#post4432017

and another :https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Exploit-due-to-Anets-options-Arrow-Carts

I just want my WvW ability points zeroed so I can choose another trait line. I play on a Mac and can’t utilize this screen shrinking in widowed mode to gain an advantage on an arrow cart. It seems fair to allow those who can’t utilize the advantage to re assign traits. Hell Why not just let us retreat like we can for our builds for that matter?

Don’t harsh my mellow.

Any response from a dev will be met with either a link or a reference to this and/or the terms of use.

Which is probably why you never did get a concrete yes or no. Any programs that violate the terms can and will result in account termination. Its your responsibility to read the terms. So if you do use it, and get banned, you cannot claim ignorance as such terms are required to be accepted before you can play the game, and are made easily and readily available.

But the fact remains if you use a windows and you go into windows mode you can shrink your screen making it long an thin and basically accomplish the same thing as many of the hacks, greatly increasing your FOV. So you aren’t really using a hack or violating terms of service now are you? So it’s and allowed “exploit” as you are not using a third party program or a program that is not already allowed by Anet. This allows placement of arrow carts in protected positions by players using windows in windows mode. Not all of us are on a PC using windows.
My solution is just give us all the ability to re trait our WvW points when ever we want. That way I, and other s don’t end up with a WvW point assigned to essentially useless traits like arrow carts. Yes I can use AC but I give them to people who are “squinching” their window. And pretty much everyone in competitive WvW and sPvP is doing it in certain situations. You can see when the enemy is stacking on the other side of a portal for a push on to the rams for instance. You can see over walls and hills so you have early warning of incoming baddies. It is done all the time. I’m willing to accept it but not when my traits are locked up in something that is essentially useless for me to use because I can’t partake of the windows shrinking that allows a more zoomed out FOV.

The other solution would be to make the arrow carts LOS only.

I’ve played GW2 on a three-monitor system, and the centre screen is what I see on a single screen system, while the left and right screens actually extend the FOV accordingly. It’s already part of the client.
