Official RP Server for NA and EU
It will be some time before the population rankings change since the new implementation. WvW may get a shake up after the new map is released, but it may still take a number of months.
Remember, though, ArenaNet can’t release just one new server. They must always be in multiples of three (for each region, NA and EU).
Good luck.
With megaserver such a thing makes no sense anymore.
Just join a RP guild or group and play it.
There is simply no way ANet force a server transfer because TC is the UNofficial RP server.
EDIT: forget my last sentence. Yeah, ANet never wanted to make official RP server, the problem is that if they do they’ll need to make and enforce rules there and that demands an extra effort that won’t bring much revenue back.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

Unless you are into WvW servers are meaningless. The game will dump players from all servers (in a region, NA or EU) onto a single map, or multiple instances of that map. You would be better off finding a RP guild and party up as it will put a party together on the same map.
Of course this means you will be neck deep in non-RPers. Just be aware of that.

It does seem to bias the placement in favor of putting people from the same home server together, especially in town.
You can get around that using parties to “taxi” people. Just takes a bit more work.
So not being on TC or Piken isn’t going to screw you out of RP opportunities entirely, it just might make a certain kind of spontaneous play slightly more annoying.

I have to disagree with you. Whereas yes, the Megaservers came into place, people of Piken Square at least, have still retained their identity, even the ones who only RP and don’t do any WvW.
Usually if I am switching zones, I almost always end up in a ‘Piken Square’ shard.
Piken Square is more than just a server, Piken is the people too.

True, it does try to assign based on server and guild as well but party is pretty much guaranteed to be together when they move to another map.

The enforcement issue and megaserver reasoning discussed above is a very good reason this won’t work. Another is that thousands of RPers settled on Tarnished Coast and Piken Square. You’re asking that a new server be created, officially made RP, and thus pressuring all those thousands to switch to the new server after years of developing server pride in PvE and WvW.
I remember in AoC … it started with the only RP server being RP PvP. The ganking and griefing was horrible. Eventually they opened an RP PvE server, but I simply couldn’t settle into a community there and I had to start all over with my characters. I hated the PvP idiocy (not all PvPers are idiots, but the ones that deliberately roll on the RP server specifically to gank people trying to have a conversation, they qualify), I hated the uprooted feeling, and I left the game.
Much as I’d like more RP support in GW2, a new designated server just won’t work.

Piken Square is more than just a server, Piken is the people too.
While a substantial number may be from the server, anytime you see asked in map chat “what server are you from?” you are going to see a wide range of responses. Which means that the rest of the Piken Square people who didn’t fit into your shard are off on another shard with all the other servers. I suspect the server identity you say continues is more felt than real.
ANet may give it to you.
On the character select screen, you can guest on TC and the megaserver system will try to put you on a map with TC people.
I can confirm this works well because whenever I want to watch people RP, I guest on TC, go to Divinitys Reach, and see a bunch of RPers.

Sort of. It depends how full a map is although it will do its best to keep a party together.
Now if we could just form parties greater than 5 people it would make things a whole lot easier.
I know TC is a major server, but it’s not the only RP server available. I’m not sure where Piken lands on the capacity list, so you might want to give it a try.
Being in an RP guild will give you a better chance at finding people to RP with, but being in an RP server will probably give you the best chance. Regardless of what people say about Megaservers they do prioritize your server over others.

Thanks guys for explaining this to me, I just got back into this game and I don’t know whats been happening to this game
I’d like to have a real RP server, though to be honest, the only thing server even does right now is set your team for WvW, and that system is absolutely screwed up because everyone who likes WvW is on the same few servers while all other servers basically don’t fight at all.
I mean what good would an RP server be if I’m always playing with people from other servers anyways?
It would be better if they implemented an RP preference setting that tries to put you into instances with as many RPers as possible. They need to fix servers in general because of the stupid WvW thing. That’s just a total joke. You can’t WvW with your guild mates and if you’re on the wrong server you can’t really do it at all.

Not sure an official RP server would be a good thing. I’ve been on Kaineng since launch and help run one of the few (only?) RP (PvX) guilds there. Can’t say I ever had trouble finding people to RP with and that’s doubly true after the megaservers became a thing.
Because of the nature of our RP (not limited to the “tavern” or “city” style, popular in DR, but mostly out on the field) we’ve come across several people that would have not considered RP otherwise. Some we dragged from PvP, some from WvWvW, some from Fractals, etc
In the end, the RP community as a whole gained from it. Even those that didn’t join my guild, started entertaining the idea of roleplaying and sometimes tag along us or other RP guilds. This would not have been possible if there was an echo chamber RP server.
Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server

Why not a tag that you can toggle in your options, a RolePlay on/off switch. The game could then attempt to put you on a map with others who are toggled the same as you.
And that’s why I said try versus does.
Can’t you have 50 in a squad?
This is the kind of discussion we have 1 year before a game release, not 3 years after where they even moved completely away from PvE servers.
If you want RP, join an RP guild.
ArenaNet doesn’t support roleplaying.
As far as I’m concerned, GW2 has no right to an RPG title. Its an MMO sandbox adventure game.
My friends and I, all role-players, had to switch over to Sanctum of Rall because we all like to play WvW but we were unable to all get onto Tarnished Coast together.
This kitten sucks!
I miss being on a “server” with other people who are role-playing. There’s no way to just hop into it with my fellow role-players anymore. I have to be taxi’d everywhere if I want to participate.
I get that for the majority of people this megaserver change has very little to no impact on you, and I’m happy for all of you, but for those of us who enjoy role-play, it really does have an impact.
I kind of wish they would allow us to change servers like they did in Guild Wars 1, with the drop down, so that you can just agree on a server to join in on, and switch to it that way.
Why not a tag that you can toggle in your options, a RolePlay on/off switch. The game could then attempt to put you on a map with others who are toggled the same as you.
I would be super happy with something like this! I think this would make it a lot easier for other people to identify their fellow RPer’s as well.
