Official Unofficial 28th Patch Notes Thread
I welcome the fractal update as well as the new WP rules for dungeons.
I do want to see how different the Maggs encounter is in CoF, though.

These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”

Magg’s path is probably little more realistic for pug groups…would rather not have to die a billion times so I like this update too. I’m glad alpha’s health was reduced…it took about 10 + mins to kill him AND he had heals…
50/50 GWAMM x3
I quit how I want
According to a dev, Magg (IIRC which encounter he was talking about) now has a veteran assassin leading a horde of non-vet trash mobs to try and kill Maggs. The Trash respawns.
I like all the Orr changes.
Death….Good!

that’s much more doable.
And I’m assuming the assassin is a Champion (gold) or at least a silver mob…veterans are trash in dungeons XD

There are so many great things in this patch, and I am VERY happy with it.
However, there’s next to no balance changes in this patch. Just a couple minor bugfixes to some traits and “on hit-limited use” abilities. Engineers got a major buff with their bundles (Which, I guess they needed) But there was very little else.
I’m curious about that…. Curious and worried.
This update is like multi-Gigabyte, WTF, do the dev not know how to optimize coding?
I like all the Orr changes.
Death….Good!
Death of many of the undead very, VERY good. Huzzah for lower density! Huzzah for waypoints! HUZZAH FOR MAKING IT LESS OF A &%#*!!!!
Well overall I think they have made a splendid build. I’ll list a few pro’s and cons
Pro’s
Well they added much content and fixed some major issues in overall gameplay.
The laurels will make for more motivation to achieve something in this game
The Orr zone has been adjusted
Cons
There was next to no class balance.
Some glaring issues also remained.
It’s a real dense list of things that what came to my mind now. But overall they did a good thing.
Also remind yourself next month is another big patch coming. Don’t despair brothers and sisters!
thanks for the work! I’m anxious to start playing!

Well, at least Drake pets work correctly for rangers now.

Yeah but you and I know the ranger needs a lot more love than that.

The actual game code makes up a tiny fraction of that file size. The bulk of that download is the new content for the living story.
That and it’s at 950 megs at about 60% give or take.
I was kind of expecting a lot more from this patch. Mainly because Anet is always very vague about patches and only reveal a small portion of the things that end up being implemented.
So, I didn’t expect the things they revealed would be quite so literal in amount. Still even if it isn’t a huge amount it’s still an improvement on many fronts that I can tell so I can’t complain. Plus I’m sure it took a lot of work to code all of these things and we still have February patch to look forward to.
Also, I see nothing about Guild Missions in the Patch notes :/ Also what happened to the AOE adjustments? I’m guessing they are both scheduled for February patch?
(P.S. Buff Mantra of Pain!)

Did I miss something? Where are the AOE nerfs?
Dragon Steel [DSL]
Henge of Denravi
I just finished reading the patch notes.
Glad for the Fractals fixes. A+
New Daily/Monthly rewards? On paper, good, but if the changes make dailies even more of a chore and less accessible to all players, I will rage. TBD.
Orr fixes look good on paper, but will reserve judgement. TBD
Profession Changes, pffff. Another month and still none of the improvements they have supposedly been working on for months now. D-
Excitement factor? Limited. C-
New Gemstore additions/changes. This was hyped beyond what we got. Implied more new items than the Quaggan Backpack. Looks like only the Quaggan Backpack. Can we get some more skins please? C-
The “Living Events” and any changes to the two effected zones better be spectacular, or this months update will overall be a let down.
Just finished a 1.18 gb
I’m a bit disppointed there are no real Mesmer bugfixes. But I’m getting used to being hated.
For the chance to reconnect to a disconnected FotM…I’d happily allow 3 GB extra code to be downloaded!!!
Looking forward to fewer Risen in Orr & uncontested waypoints
That and it’s at 950 megs at about 60% give or take.
1.19gb at finish for me

Looks pretty good to me, especially like all the Orr changes and fixes to downlevelling. Just came back after 2/3 months not playing and if there’s more patches like this coming I think I’ll be sticking around.
My question is did some of us that completed the Orr areas get screwdd over. “Areas now give better rewards”. Or was that just pertaining to the none veteran mobs dropping better loot?
So ….. what happened to the AoE talking, nerfing???

Yeah. I expected more as well. They made clear most of the new content was put off until February/March, but the expectation was that there would be a lot more meat instead, meant to set the foundation for the coming content updates. We got the beginnings of the new daily/monthly system, fixes for Fractals and a revamp for Orr, all with potential to be huge pluses, or major failures, so that’s all good. However, the rest of the notes don’t offer anything to be excited about. Most disappointing is that once again, profession balance/improvements are put off for yet another month.
Underwater combat? Crafting? Really?
Why would you make one of the poorest features in the game a requirement for daily?
As for crafting, that is just pointless. Most people would probably just cook 10 loaves of bread. I certainly am not gonna spend gold to craft items, just for the sake of daily.
LOVING the new disco footsteps on The Moot
Definitely like the Orr attention. I’ve grown to enjoy Orr, with Malchor’s being my favorite of the three areas. Course part of that is because on the Coast we still have people showing up for the Temple events which is nice.
Guardian Spirit Weapons taking damage and no more siege in the WvW jumping puzzles were the other notes that stood out to me.
My characters think I’m crazy.
That and it’s at 950 megs at about 60% give or take.
1.19gb at finish for me
whadda ?
I’m at 479 mb at ONLY 3% .. 5,600 files remaining, is that normal ?

I’m confused why you’re complaining about 10 crafts when you gave yourself a cheap method of getting it done.
HOLY PATCH NOTES.
Some highlights (good and bad) for me that personally affects how/why I play this game:
-A new currency has been added: the laurel.
-The Orichalcum vein in Southsun Cove is now a regular vein instead of a rich vein
-Siege is no longer usable while inside a WvW jumping puzzle.
-Polished dungeons and removed the ability to use waypoints while any player is in combat.
-Attribute calculations for dynamic level scaling have been rebalanced.
-Players can now reconnect to the Fractals of the Mists if they are disconnected. (all fractal updates tbh)
-Players may now log in to a world other than their home world as a guest.
-ALL dungeon updates
Overall, extremely impressed, excited and happy to be playing this game.

It is just an extra bother that I need to go out of the way to do. It is worse than the old 15 varieties of mobs requirement, which at least is somewhat interesting since you need to do a bit of exploring for that.
Ah well, like you said, it could be done easily, so there is that.
Nice, I’m glad they took more time to re-work AoE as it will be a complicated solution in the end.
Overall great patch notes. Nothing really to complain about in the given notes.
Only thing I’m sad about is that there were no class changes
For those complaining about the daily… you DO realize that dailies are going to change now, right? Don’t like this daily? Skip it and do tomorrow’s.
If I may :
- No siege in WvW puzzles : then please disable PvP in WvW puzzles. People from Sorrow Furnace for exemple, have nothing better to do than camping borderland puzzles. If we cant use siege to defend our puzzle, then disable the PvP feature in there completely.
So much good stuff in this patch.

Is this true? This is great news because I despise crafting and will avoid it at all costs.
Eh, the reaction just proves that players will find anything to complain about. Before the patch it was all doom and gloom because anything and everything with aoe was being nerfed.
Now it’s all doom and gloom because people’s pet peeves haven’t been fixed.
Despite some of the good things in the patch.
Almost at WoW levels folks…
Before: daily with 4 chores
Now: daily with 5 worse chores with some of them hard to do for novice casual players…
Din’t arenanet said it would be somthing like having 6 achievements and you needed 4 of your choiche to do the daily?
I complain about ANOTHER patch of little to no bug fixes and balancing to the classes. It’s been 2 months now from the last patch with classes bug fix and balancing.
Checked patch notes, checked ways to gain Ascended gear, saw ridicolous laurel prices, checked peoples opinions, checked if any promises were kept, found it not to be so. Saved myself a few gigabytes of downloads it seems. Will check again on February patch. Good luck Anet.
One thing I’ve noticed is that Orrian trash mobs seem to move slower now and look a lot more zombie-like. I don’t think a new walking animation has been added; the existing one has simply been slowed and it looks suitably more shuffly.
I approve.
It’s also weird getting hit by anchors and NOT getting pulled this way and that.
Weird but good.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.

You do understand that this crafting daily is the easiest daily they asked you to day since, forever! It’s barely harder than a daily that says : “Daily logins : 1/1”
Did they remove the rich orri node from south shore?
Did they remove the rich orri node from south shore?
Yup; it’s now just a normal one.
Another thing:
They said they’ve adjusted level scaling. I don’t know about anyone else, but it still feels pretty much the same to me. I’m still steam-rolling content in Queensdale when I go back there.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
I find the content to be far less steamrolly than before. Unless you found a spot where you are downscalled to level 15 against level 10 mobs which tends to happen.
