Ok, Seriously, I wanna know what's going on!
……….. wut
they want to retrait for free on the fly .
I dont see it happening anytime soon especially considering the gem shop item
As far I I know Gw2 has the lowest fee to reset build. Some mmos would require you to use only real money to do it…

The thing is a lot of people came from GW1 where we could reset from within any outpost and change our builds completely (skills and attribute points) without it costing anything.
Of course a lot of these people probably don’t release that in the initial release of GW1 you couldn’t reset your attributes whenever you want, but the point was that they realised it needed to be added in. It’s sort of the same in GW2.
You can SAY “play your way”, but when players don’t have any real way of testing builds out in the game environment it can be pretty difficult. (heart of the mists absolutely does not count)
I played Gw1 for 6yrs and yea build changing is awesome load any build anytime. I love to see that in Gw2 but thats not we have atm. But its still acceptable compared to other mmos that you need to buy and spend real money to reset.
I would absolutely LOVE to see a switch mechanic something like the weapons switch. Even two builds would be great to have, because sometimes a build you would use for soloing would never work if you come across a large group event.
The thing is though that currently people can change their builds for particular encounters but it takes time and the person who opened the instance is excluded. I’d consider this some much needed convenience and choice. I’m not even after it being free but a fixed cost set just a bit higher than the trainer.

I guess the problem is not the fee itself. Paying 3-4 silver to respec is almost nothing. But having to respec everything by hand everytime youre gonna do something that requires a different build (lets say you have a build for general PvE, a build for dungeons, a build for WvW, etc) is a pain. A template system like we had on GW1 would be great.

It really sucks when youre just moving 10 trait points >.<
Yeah, to be clear, I don’t give a crap about the dumb low respec cost. I played GW1, and I remember we didn’t always have that potion. I do, however, REALLY miss being able to change my build on the fly. Even if it’s not a total respec, I want to move a few points around: nope, can’t do that, gotta go back to LA, the redo your entire build for that. Besides that, I really miss saving my builds. Just so I knew what the hell each builds was for. I still have all my old builds for Urgoz, Deep, HA, HM Vaetirr farming, etc. Just something i miss, that’s all lol
The problem with Guild Wars 1 was you couldn’t really change your build on the fly. You could change your builds in outposts. But you had to have your build solidified before you left that outpost.
So if you were in a dungeon and you decided that you needed to make a change, you had to go back to an outpost, run back to the dungeon, start the dungeon again. Repeat everything you did. That’s not respeccing on the fly.
Guild Wars 2 allows you to change weapons and skills out of combat and even change major traits out of combat, even while in a dungeon.
Yes, I agree it would be nice to have templates to make respeccing easier, but Guild Wars 1 was by no means perfect in this regard either.
IMO the cost of re-traiting is so cheap that build templates would be a nice QOL improvement.
Right now its just annoying to have to click 70 buttons.

You couldn’t change your attributes on the fly in GW1. You had to go back to a town or outpost to do it. It’s pretty much the same here, except that the number of places you can go to is more limited. The only real difference is that you have to pay a fee and can’t save build templates.
Personally I do think they could add more retrainers. If it was up to me I’d have one in each town/camp etc. that has crafting stations and a trading post NPC because those are basically like GW1’s outposts, just not in a separate map.
They could also add build templates without affecting current system. Make it so you have to reset your traits before you can use one and then the template just re-allocates them automatically so you don’t have to go through and pick each thing separately each time. That would be functionally the same as the templates in GW1 and it would save a lot of time and hassle for people who use many different builds, but it would also fit with the current system.

That would be a good solution. Same system but add the save build/template option.

Re-traiting is cheap, re-building not so cheap, for me that is where the flaws lie.

I am definitely for build templates. Just today when switching between Arah and doing a temple event I forgot to swap back one of my traits. >_<
You don’t need to click 70 times to allocate the traits. You can just click on a minor/major trait and it will allocate enough points to unlock that trait.
Also remember that it wasn’t always “free” to retrait in GW1. There were attribute refund points.
It gives hope that they may change things in the future, but that can be said of so many things in GW2.
The problem is not even a fee, it’s convenience and time. You need to go somewhere to do that, and gem store item, well… if it would be some one time item which would unlock the reset option for your account or at least one of your characters then it would be ok, but instead it’s yet another consumable in your inventory and limited at that, it’s meh. Add to that major cluster kitten in gear department and whole “test/try different builds” and “play the way you want” becomes a joke. Currently GW2 is one of the most inconvenient games to play out there in terms of how easy it is to try different playstyles. For GW1 vets it’s even more noticeable, since GW1 was super flexible and convenient in that matter.

Defenitely something they should introduce. Also it’s spelled PER SE not persay, it is from latin and enjoys the spelling of this language. I read this typo too often, at one point, enough is enough.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Retraiting is often the lowest aspect of the cost of changing your build. When I talk about different builds I’m often talking about direct vs condition damage. Throw in vertical progression and a number of alts and I have an untenable situation—and, that’s before we get to the cost of retraiting.
All I want is the same as GW1 in that I can save my build (skills and traits) and then switch when not in combat. I’m fine with an ingame fee that is more than the trainers in the main cities. 10s would be good, heck I’d be ok with 50s per retrain on the fly. Just want this functionality “back.”
It would be nice to save builds. I’m certainly not expecting it to ever be free in GW2. The BLTC item has proven that will never happen. That said, I do think it would be reasonable to have an additional, alternate underwater set of traits. We already have that for the skill bar.
nop .. templates will never happen. They want you to buy another character slot
i was so sick to re-train and the non stop traits clicking that i made a second Guadian.
One Guardian hammer/Greatsword and another Guardian Sword/torch – Mace/Focus with a different build … so today instead of redoing my traits i swap toon to whatever i need …
