So players have been asking for mounts since day one of the game, and since then you have added items like magic carpet and riding broom that could EASILY someone use as mounts, and you give it to us with no speed bonus at all. Like seriously is it so hard give a 30% speed bonus and call this items mounts and just make everyone happy? We even buying these with real money on gem store!

Mounts Megathread – main “mounts” topic, merged by Gaile Grey from 7 threads
Suggestion: Mounts?
Mounts {12}
Mounts {2}, Mounts {8}, Mounts {10}, Mounts {11}, Mounts {13}
Incoming Mounts??
What Would Mounts do for this Game?
No Mounts?
[+] Arguments in favour:
That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and enjoyed it.
Aesthetics: mounts are cool. Riding a mount is another pleasant experience which a videogame can give to a player who lives in real life. You can use existing animals and even create new ones – that’s a base for new content.
Speed: you can travel faster. You can use waypoints if you like, or mounts if you like the experience.
Progression: buying and upgrading mounts gives you stuff to do, and more stuff to do is what this game needs.
Flying mounts are even more fun then terrestrial mounts. Flying mounts will make exploring Tyria easier and more enjoyable. Flying mounts will let you look at Tyria from a new angle.
Since underwater combat exists in GW2 (same z-axis gameplay) and Tengu are still to make their move, a map with flying mounts makes sense.
Mounts could be constrained to a single map, similar to Dry Top, or exist as a PvP-style activity.
[-] Arguments against:
GW2 is not that other game and was not designed with mounts in mind. That’s why we feel mounts do not belong here, and adding them will feel forced (“added because others have it”, not “added because we needed them”).
Aesthetics: mounts will look silly with GW2 races and animals (giant norn on a pink moa). Mounts will make GW2 even less serious and more visually annoying than Moot, Quip and pink unicorn bows. Mounts will contribute to visual clutter.
We already have cosmetic mounts: broom, carpet, sonic device. We already have a minor speed “mount”: the Dry Top kites.
Speed: waypoints are superior in terms of traveling. Maps are small enough to even travel by foot. We already have mobility skills and speed boosters for that.
Progression: the game was advertised as having (next to no) gear grind, and people love it for that reason. Introducing mounts as an obligatory item (“grind for it or you lose”) will cause the same uproar as ascended armour.
Like jumping would ruin a game designed with no jumping in mind, flying mounts will ruin GW2 maps (for example, think about jumping puzzles, or vistas on mountains, or easily traversing areas which are supposed to be filled with foes). Furthermore, maps were designed to look cool from the ground, not from above; you can see how many problems flying mounts will bring into map design by googling off-map videos and looking at the map attentively.
Things like mounts will require a lot of development resources to adapt to all races and body types; clipping will be a very serious issue, too. These resources could be spent elsewhere.
[=] Current state of affairs:
Most “mount” threads are met with negativity (and a gif of a jokey beating a dead horse), because this topic has been discussed countless times. Still, new “mount” threads appear every now and then, showing that there are players who are actively wanting to discuss the addition of mounts.
New “mount” threads are known to be closed with the reasoning of numerous threads on the subject already existing:

Yes. Especially since introducing mounts (or, even more, mounts granting speed bonus), would make a lot of people really unhappy.

housing, mounts dont belong in gw2, its not that kind of game why is it so hard for people to understand that just because another game of the same genre has them doesnt mean every one has to.

Many people play gw2 cause they dont want the usual mmo experience. Im (personally) glad that i dont need a stupid horse to go from point a to point b and also that i dont need to see them (or other variations of those things). What you bought op was a toy, nothing more, nothing less. Its called a toy, its a cosmetic “joke” item (not meant the bad way) and thats about it. A carpet, broom or tunneling tool is as helpfull as a mini… means its about as helpfull as a squirt gun underwater. Makes no difference and is somewhat stupid but still fun if thats your thing. Deal with it or leave it be, not like i can tell ya what to do…. though i expect that thread end up in the other mega mount thread anyways soon.

Players been asking for many things,but there are those that object instantly on it.Anet cant make game perfect for everyone.You want mounts but some people dont,some people want duels wile others dont.I want open world pvp but it will never happen cause majority of people dont want it.
Its how it is,they cant make happy everyone cause people are different and they like different things,also lots of people here on forums are just selfish.
You ether play the game or just move to some that have mounts,that is how it is,that is how will stay.

Mate. Mounts will never be in this game becuase there is absolutely no need for them. It would actually be pointless to add them. The ONLY reason theyd be put int he game is as a money making scheme. Which would be extremely transparent and likely kitten off alot of fans.

As long as there is a waypoint system. And everything is withing a 3-4 minute walk of nearly any waypoint on a map. I don’t see mounts making it into this game.

how? explain me how a sane person would be unhappy by having the ability to purchase an item in the gemstore (thats already in the gemstore) but it only has some speed buff bound to it

Since waypoints already exist to get you from one place to another quickly, Mounts serve no purpose in that regard. Almost every class has access to +25% speed boost, and also access to swiftness to some extent. Having a permanent 30% speed boost mount, therefore, also serves no necessary purpose in that regard either.

With these things being true why exactly is this so important to anyone?

My guardian and mesmer are painful to get anywhere due to no speed boost,a nd I hate playing them for that reason. I would welcome mounts. That said, I played a druid in EQ1, so in my opinion ALL games nowdays suck completely and totally when it comes to speed and movement. In my view, the tele points are a weak copy of druid port abilities.

guardians can get perma swiftness very easily, if speed is such an issue use traveler runes, if gold is an issue, farm it. Wow problem solved

how? explain me how a sane person would be unhappy by having the ability to purchase an item in the gemstore (thats already in the gemstore) but it only has some speed buff bound to it

1. People are against gemstore items to give a direct advantage like a speed-boost to those who own them.
2. People are against speed-boost mounts in general. One of the arguments is that it breaks the immerson in the game and it makes the world of Tyria less meaningful.
3. It goes against the lore where the Asura dominates travel in Tyria.
4. It goes against the purpose of having waypoints game-play wise.

Now, you can apparently arugment against these points too however what I mentioned was just an example of the many arguments people have to prove that mounts aren’t needed in GW2. We simply have alot of people who really despite mounts. Mounts are going to be there as cosmetics however, I doubt we will see any speed-boosting mounts anytime soon.

well said, its fine if you want like a non combat toy mount consumable like those carpets or brooms, but when it comes to actually applying direct buffs thats when it really causes a problem

there are speed boosters dropping every 2-3 black lion chests that you open, which is practically gem store item, on top of that there are other boosters on gem store like XP etc. you point would make totaly sense if these things werent already in the game. the rest of the point also dont make much sense since the game its an mmo and thus it is breaking immersion constantly, if you want immersion play skyrim not an mmo.

Above all Gw2 is a cosmetic game indeed, having cosmetic mounts with no speed boost (since some people say we dont need them etc. etc.) but we barely even have that
