Old Gathering Tools
Wait what? I have the new solar logger and it acted like any other infinite tool.
What? I think you’re misunderstanding something here. All of the gem store gathering tools are account bound. Old ones were soulbound, but you were able to switch them over once the change went in. There’s no difference between them other than cosmetics (and the fact that the watchwork one gives sprockets).
Sounds like you need to talk to the Black Lion guy and let him account bind your tools for you.
You guys mean to tell me all gem shop gathering tools are supposed to work on all characters simultaneously without having to juggle the tool between characters? I’m comparing the old tools to stuff like the new cosmic mining tool, which becomes a standard item on all current and new characters.
Sounds like you need to talk to the Black Lion guy and let him account bind your tools for you.
You do this by having the tool in your bags, not equipped, and he converts it to the account bound version. Which you still have to individually equip on the alt using it, but you can swap it around.

No it doesn’t. It’s the same as all the others. One item, usable by “any” character.

Unless I’m incorectly reading both the in game description of the item in the gem shop and the description on the gw2 wiki, I’m pretty sure it works simultaneously on all characters.

Unless I’m reading both the in game description of the item in the gem shop and the description on the gw2 wiki, I’m pretty sure it works simultaneously on all characters.
If the new mining tool had a different and improved functionality that allowed it to be used on all chars without first going through the account bound slots or juggling through the bank they would have charged more than the standard 1000 gems for it and made a big deal about it in a blog post.

It doesn’t. The cosmic mining tool came out weeks ago. If that change had come with it, there would be rage posts all over reddit and the forums about it. Plus, the description says: “This tool replaces your mining pick on any character.” That’s the same thing it says on the firefly one and some others. It just means you can use it on any character, not that you can use it on all characters without moving it.

I think you’re misreading it.
The item description says it’s account bound, but like other account bound items that just means it can be moved between characters.
The gem store and wiki description says “This tool replaces your mining pick on any character. It has unlimited uses and works on all ore nodes.”
Any character is not the same as every character. It means it doesn’t have a level restriction like the standard Ori tools or any other restrictions. It doesn’t mean it’s available on all your characters simultaneously.
