Q:

I play irregularly, so I missed the transition to the new Guild system. Unfortunately, I had 15 “Lengthy Letter of Thanks” I was going to use but hadn’t gotten around to it. I used one today and it did nothing (except disappear…yay)

Considering they were expensive to me, I was wondering is there something I can do with them, perhaps some vender who converts them to experience or something?

Also, since I’m talking about Guild Influence/growth: I’m in a very small guild ( about 5 active members ), all friends, everyone “doesn’t do PvP”. I’m at a loss to how our guild can get a PvE mission slot. Is there some information on how ArenaNet expects a new guild to progress if it isn’t large and doesn’t do PvP?

Thanks in advance, apologies if the answers lie somewhere in the forums, I did try to do searches but saw nothing.

A:

In the missions tab, right below your guild name is a cog wheel. Use that to change your preference to PvE. It will happen next time the missions refresh, so after this weekend.

Are you sure it did nothing? We had a guildie with an old influence item — I found out because the guild log noted her giving influence to us.

I don’t know if our banked influence actually increased, though, my memory of how much we have is “less than 10,000.” Since her donation didn’t take it to “over 10,000,” it could have counted or not for all I know.

Thanks Garambola! It’s a pity that we get 10% favor, not sure ANET’s logic on that, but this at least allows the guild to progress!

And thanks also to Donari, I did double check after reading your post. I had assumed Influence was (at least by now) fully transitioned to Guild XP, but I notice now the legacy influence is still displayed in the UI, and yes, using an item does raise it. Now I just have to figure out what I can spend it on! =)

Talk to an NPC if you have over 10k influence: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ronald_Lefleur

Over 10K, you can trade it in for favor (which is how my guild got a number of upgrades even though we haven’t done a single mission in a very long time, since well before HoT — we’re stalled now, though, until we can get enough people on at once for that). Under 10K you can trade it in at the mine for faster aetherium mining (not much, like one or two seconds faster per minute, for around 10 minutes) but that’s only handy if you keep having upgrades to spend aetherium on.
