Old Oola's Lab
Any chance on getting the drop rate for the crystal increased a little bit since so many collections require access to this lab now?
more?!? I keep getting these useless crystals…. I think I’ve got 5 on my necromancer from when she mapped the area. And I did use one or two as well…
Not sure why these Collections are more special than map completions to warrant the drop rate increasing only now.

One does not need to enter the lab to complete the map though. Players only need to walk up near its closed door to ‘discover’ the POI. Nothing inside is related to map completion.
I agree with the OP’s request.
I’ve not gotten one of these crystals in almost 2 years, in which time I’ve leveled about 15+ characters. If I didn’t happen to find a bugged instance of the map the other day with the event stalled inside so the place was free to roam about in, I’d likely never have stepped foot inside the place again due to never getting those crystals.

I always get at least one crystal when doing map completion. I’ve done map completion about 11 times.
RNG – Since HoT and looking for a key thus far I have completed the map on 3 characters, killing all the way. Plus I farmed up the last ~500 kills that I needed for focus master and have not gotten a key. I know I have gotten them earlier in the game, so they do drop, but it is pretty obnoxious as currently implemented.
It is also possible to jump into the lab.
This is a classic case of where you really want an item but it never drops but when you don’t want it you end up with 20 of them. There’s usually someone on the map somewhere that has one.

That doesn’t help people that need the full event to run to open the vendor, though.
Collect these 14 items and skins to receive the reaper’s greatsword, Dark Harvest.

Oola’s Data Crystal Sold by Researcher Orl only after completion of Protect Orl’s research krewe event.
That’s a reason. Farmed for two hours yesterday no crystal to open the door, the event must be complete before the merchant offers the Oola’s Data Crystal.

In 3+ years of playing,(since beta) I’ve spent a reasonable amount of time in Metrica, and gotten only three of them. One of those since the release of HoT. So I got very lucky. If something like this is tied to a major objective, why not increase the chance that it drops? You can always call out in map chat, ask who needs them, and give them to players who still who needs them. They can also be sold to vendors. So having more of these than you need is not an issue.
However, when we went there, a very nice person was already waiting with a crystal to take a full group of people through. He did not call out in map chat about the event, but did call out for the vendor afterwards. And when the vendor vanished, we did the event again with my crystal, and called out in map chat at the end, directing people to the vendor, and telling them why.
So while there are methods to spread out the benefit of the slight few crystals that drop, wouldn’t it be better to just increase the drop rate? Seriously?
<edit>
When you get your crystal, do the event, and spawn the vendor, please call out in map chat and direct other players to the vendor. You don’t need to do the event with a group of dozens, but please alert other players when the vendor is about to spawn, direct them to the place, and tell them why.

Laurie, are you NA? I think I have a crystal on one of my alts that I was saving until someone needed the vendor. I’d be happy to come in game and use it on your behalf.
(If I didn’t already use it. My memory is hazy on that).
I killed random mobs for 55 minutes and got one. I don’t know if my drop was lucky or if nearly 1 hour of grinding enemies was pretty standard to get one.
