Old is new again
The district system was a great one. You could see at a glance how many map copies there were and what your map copy number was. You could select the one you wanted and attempt to join it. You could select the ones at the top of the list for maximum number of people or the bottom of the list for the fewest people.
Here is a picture to show what the district panel looked like. The top shows the person is in district one and that there are 6 other districts in the NA maps. (Guild Wars 1 didn’t have a separate EU and NA like this game does and you could jump to the EU districts from that panel).
ANet may give it to you.
If a map is about to close it should give some type of error when you try to join it through a party. That could potentially create issues for people already on the map. But it seems to create more issues the other way around.
But having a list to choose from would be awesome.
Map Closings are just a tool used by Anet to Troll players with.
Since the point of GW’s game mechanics and open world design is to basically allow players to come together and begin working towards a common goal with little communication, just a redesign to the open world LFG would be sufficient.
Instead of posting to acquire more members for your group, you post to acquire more members for you map.
I could do a post to get more players in a map for the goal of Vinewrath in Silverwastes. The post would include what zone it is, the current player population, the unique instance id and an unique message written by me describing why I would want you to come. Multiple people could advertise for the same instance since there can be different events. The posts would stay up until I either manually remove it or the map instance fills up, in which case, all posts for that map instance would be removed from the list.
Beyond that, just changing the overall design of the world events would do a lot. The reason you can almost always find a SW map is the start times of the meta event are randomized, which pretty much ensures a map is available no matter what time you log in. World events that operate on a fixed schedule force players to be on at a certain time to even participate and the maps get flooded almost immediately when the start times reset, making it difficult to get in one. It’s rather annoying for me to log on at a certain time only to find SW maps available, because I logged on one hour too late or too early to participate in any other world events.
I don’t think I should be adjusting my own personal schedule to be able to play content I purchased. I was disappointed to see HoT world events resume following this type of scheduled play when the addition of Silverwastes was a step in the right direction
This is not about Map closings It is about choice. Your choice to choose which server aka number of that server you would like to play on. Without having to rely on a taxi system to get to one.
