So it has been said before that they will probably give the current classes access to some of the current weapons before they bring in any new weapons to the game. This I don’t mind and am even looking forward to.

So I thought I would make this post to say what I would like per class and a brief in some of the skills/bonuses they could bring. Feel free to add your own, I look forward to reading them!

Ranger:

Rifle. At the moment we all know (if you don’t you should be ashamed) that Engi’s play with rifles like a shotgun so that’s short to mid range. Warrior seems to have a slow shooting rifle with mid to long range. What I envision for the ranger with access to the rifle would be the equivalent of a sniper. That’s right, very long range with accurate high damage, bring on the pain baby! Rangers are and should be the long range specialist class so to me this is the obvious choice for them to be the sniper-ish class.

Engineer:

Mace. It’s pretty common knowledge that any weapon that comes for Engi will be a melee one. The most obvious choice to me right now seems to be the mace. It just suits us (I main an Engi). Tbh what I want this to bring to the table would be expertise in destroying siege and non moving (alive) targets such as dredge cannons etc.

Guardian:

Longbow. It’s high time that these guys (and gals ) got a decent long range weapon. I think the longbow would be the perfect choice. As for skills etc, perhaps they can go the road of anti-protect or protection by-passing since Guardians have so much knowledge of protecting themselves. I’m thinking armour piercing shots, damage that gets through blocks!

Warrior:

Staff. Warrior already has access to a lot of the weapons and seem to be able to do decent with any of them. Just for fun I would like to see them using “sticks” to whack people around, think Bo’s in a martial artist type of way.

Well that’s all I have for now, I’ll come up with more when I think them out. :P

PS, please do not move this thread to “suggestions” I am not trying to offer ideas as such here. Just putting down ideas that I would like as well as get some feedback from others. I want this to be more a discussion thread rather than 1 person offering a simple suggestion.

Yes! I’ve always wondered why Rangers can’t use rifles. When I started my first toon, a ranger, I envisioned her as pretty much being a ninja sniper with a herd of animals at command. Sneaking around, picking enemies off before they knew what hit them. Of course, I had to change that vision as I actually started playing the game. 0.o

Mesmer:

Shield, Pistol. Mesmers can already use pistols for an offhand, so it seems fitting they should also be able to as a main hand. As for skills, maybe just some brunt physical force. I know that Mesmers are meant to be all about mind control and turning the enemy’s mind against them. But it seems to me they need SOME form of physical expertise as well. So that tied in with my next part being the shield could work there.

For shield I am thinking they could use it as a main hand. I know people have asked for this before for the Engi. I think for Memser it could be great as a pure defensive main weapon (in theory) while dishing out the enemy’s OWN weapons against them. Think of it as them hiding behind a shield with some defense while they concentrate to use the enemy’s own weapons against them. Why main hand and not offhand? It would give Anet 3 skills to play with while also making it a first (unique) for an offhand to be a main hand weapon.

As for skills, phantom duplicates of the enemy’s own weapons and variations of the skills/tricks those weapons can do.

Baby steps man, that can also come in time lol. Feel free to post your ideas for the hammer. What I did forget to put down was mace also as an offhand weapon. We Engi’s need more choices for off hands so the mace again can also be another choice there.

Thief:

Torch. Thieves seem to be all about stealth, deception and traps. I would like to take the traps part up a bit for them via the main weapon. For this I will steal the idea that I used for Mesmer (pun intended since it’s fitting ):P

That being them being able to use a current off hand only weapon as a main*. Torch, this would be cool to focus on traps of the fire based type. Also I would think it would be cool for them to be able to double wield torches. For offhand I imagine they could be the ultimate anti- Stealth force. Buy this I mean their offhand skills could focus on detecting other stealth based enemies and perhaps even traps.

Only 2 classes left to go…..

(*) – If you are like me and starting to see a pattern here with regards to offhand weapons being useable as main hands just look at it this way – it could make those currently painful weapon master achievements for off hands much more bearable (ulterior motive exposed!?).

Fun thread I like some of the things here.

Rifle Ranger: I do sooo like this, since ranger is my second most used toon, and i freakin love rifles in general. However as a long range weapon, rangers already have longbow, with traits it can go excess the usual 1200 range. I dont wanna kill the idea, but what are anyones thoughts on balancing with this?

Engineer Melee: I have to go for Hammer over mace, sorry :P I’m just too inspired by Torchlight 2’s version of Engineer

Pistol Mesmer: Main hand pistol? With the already existing off hand pistol, a dual pistol mesmer…. YES please! we cant let only thieves and engineers the only ones that can go all John Woo on people :p

Lol keep the feedback coming guys.

Necro:

Hammer. Why? Why not! Necro’s are all about death (summoning dead things) and dark magic. I don’t know about anyone else but when I think of warhammers all I can think of is death, slow but painfully an ender. Necro’s also need another 2 handed weapon, 1 is not enough!

Skills could be the typical bash em up aoe type. Another thing Necro’s need is more Aoe and a melee version would be welcome. There could also be a “squish Minion” skill as part of this not only for variety but as punishment for your minions for not working hard enough as will as to send an example to your other minions! What benefit would you get from “squishing” your minion? Well, something deathly of course, I would think Anet could think up something awesome. :P

Imo I think sword would be too obvious as well as stereotypical of magic users (think magic swords and Gandalf here). So for my choice I am going to go with…..

Ele:

Axe. Eles are fast moving (well they should be since they don’t have all that heavy armour weighing them down) beings who can manipulate the elements and summon weapons to do their bidding.

For me I don’t know, just the thought of using an axe and switching to the air element (which imo is typically the worst of elements currently for current weapons) and creating a swirling storm of cyclone axes to hurl at your enemy would be cool. Not to mention getting in close with your axe (possibly even axes) and slicing and dicing for finally some melee looking damage for these beings.

Now that would be my ideal Ele just for a start, remember they get 12 (that’s right!) skills per weapon (for main, 8 for offhand) due to all the elements, the possibilities here are almost endless.

Yes, because we need to give rangers even more incentive to max range every encounter and not stack with the rest of the group.

So you are saying that because there are some bad team players out there that we should exclude things from incoming to the game because it will only make that situation worse?

Ummm, no I think a better solution there would be to ask said bad players to get with the programme or simply to not expect everyone to “stack” to “kill da boss” because it’s the most efficient way to speed run the dungeon.

Actually hold on there, I see what you did, you derailed my thread! No sir, I will have none of that, please stay on topic.

Thieves currently have two main hand melee weapons, only one of which has a skill that causes a damaging condition, and even that is determined by whether or not you have dual daggers equipped.

Thief needs a damaging condition stacking melee weapon, and for that I suggest Axe, which has a multiple hit chain similar to warrior, that causes bleeds.

Thieves need a Rifle. They fit the Sniper/Hitman theme right down to their general playstyle. And they currently have the shortest range potential in the game.
I feel Staff would fit Ranger better in a nature magic/quarter staff fashion.

I think short bow would be better than longbow. Like a thief it’d be nice to see some ricochets of light that damages foes and another skill that when fired brings a symbol that can gives protect to allies and weakens or damages foes. Would be neat to see a shot that rains down heal and blinds foes and a final skill that is a chain that when held for a duration does a strong dmg atk orb that can explode for more damage if triggered.

Thieves: Axes. I’d like to see the thief have more weapons that don’t have a lot of condition damage attached to them. They also need a new off hand weapon option. The only reason I don’t want to say torch is because of the conditions. I don’t like playing condition damage when I know its unpopular and being worked on.

Agree with rifle for rangers. That said, some other ideas for other classes.

Engineer: Hammers…. definitively hammers. Not only makes sense for an engineer to wield a hammer, there are already several hammer designs that look like they’re custom made for engineers:

http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/gw2-whispers-secret-hammer-1.jpg

http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/gw2-adamant-guard-hammer-1.jpg

Guardian: agree with longbow.

Warrior: While it could be fun to see a warrior doing martial arts moves with a staff, personally I think staff designs look more like being used for magical than melee attacks. Personally I’d give warriors access to pistols.

Mesmer: Main hand pistols, definitively, with things like teleports, maybe create a clone when shooting while you’re teleported behind the enemy, things like that.

I’ll leave the other classes for others since I don’t have a level 80 of them, so not that much experience..

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Just so everyone knows, the term ‘Ranger’ does not refer to fighting at range, it refers to roaming ranges of land, as a warden of sorts. In most fantasy settings, Rangers are primarily scouts and skirmishers, proficient with blade and bow. Their weapon selection, including the lack of a rifle, is appropriate.

That said, I agree with pretty much all the OP’s suggestions, but we need new weapons altogether as well, such as greataxes, whips, claws, etc., PLUS the ability for single-wielding to be viable.

I honestly want to see a mainhand torch for the Gaurdian. With skills like:
Wrathful Lash – Lash out with a flaming whip (Balrog cough) striking and inflicting Burning damage to foes in front of you
Inquisitor’s Brand – Place a symbol on the ground that inflicts damage and Torment to enemies within it
Becon of Faith (Pilgrim’s Becon?, pilgrim as in pilgrimage not buckle hats.)- Launch an orb of light that blinds enemies as it travels through them, and removes a condition from allies. Detonate it to Grant Regeneration and Swiftness to allies and Burning and Cripple enemies. (This one is the least thought-out, probably’d be on a high cooldown if detonated.)

But that’s just because I love the torch concept on Guardians.
Wouldn’t mind a bow either.

I wonder how they’d work a dagger offhand, actually. Maybe make it primarily thrown? I ‘ve only seen Vapor Blade do that. But that might be enough, I’m not sure.

That’s good since in my experience so far out of all 8 classes only really 1 or 2 have good skills for axes and as for torches I don’t recall having any of my current classes that can use them doing so…..
