Warriors & Guardians make all other classes look weak in PvE. That’s not even up for dispute.

With the current state of the game (and it has been a year now), it’s almost as if Anet designed each class to only be good in one facet of the game. (PvE, sPvP or WvW) It’s going to take nothing short of a complete overhaul of the game’s balance to fix it, and looking back on the last year’s worth of changes, I just don’t see that happening.

If I were to be asked by someone looking to pick up the game what class to choose, I’d ask: What will you be doing most of the time, PvE, sPvP, WvW? Based on the answer to that question I could literally just pick a single class right then and there. The balance is that skewed.

And that’s not the way it should be. It should be about preference, not ability to perform.

Good is surely relative? The Thief doesn’t suck in PvE, but it might excel at sPvP or whatever (random example). Similarly, the Warrior isn’t impossible and overly weak in sPvP, but it really shines in PvE. This, I feel, is the nature of diversity, having different classes and different game modes and it’s impossible to ever have anything perfectly balanced.

I’m not saying the balance isn’t a little skewed at the moment, just that there will always be a discrepancy and it’s not a black and white issue.

Also, I feel very much that the game is still about preference. I don’t play a Warrior in PvE because my preference lies with the Necromancer. Both are perfectly viable. I don’t mind that I can’t kill 6 mobs in 5 seconds flat. I can still kill 6 mobs and maybe I’ll take less hits than a Warrior. I play my Necro because of preference, not because there’s no other choice.

Similarly, there is the illusion of little choice in sPvP. I see many comments running along the lines of “playing anything except Mesmer or Thief just isn’t viable …” That’s just not true. All classes have viable options – just the general mentality is usually to run with what people perceive as the most efficient. I’m not arguing that this it isn’t the case that one class is better suited to sPvP than another, I’m simply saying that people are wrong to say they don’t have the option to play by preference but instead are forced to play a way they don’t want to. Nowhere in the game does ANet ever force anyone to play a class they don’t like.

Anet is doing their best to try and promote the weakest and least played part of GW2: sPVP.

My only guess is that some analysis shows that sPVP players spend the most money on gems. Seriously, that is the only logical conclusion to their actions.

Dying as you level is part of the learning process. If you are level 80 and continually dying you need to look at your build, group, guild and/or play style.

All they’re going to do is cause a lot of hardcore players to become casual players who log in for their daily and once a month for about an hour to do the living story content.

PvP gets ballance.
PvE gets content.

Fair trade, everyone is crying, everyone is unhappy.
In HotM people are crying 24/7 that they don´t get content (srsly, new maps, same mechanics don´t really count). And that A-Net doesn´t care about them because of PvE getting all the content. In LA PvEers say the same, only they blame balance.
For PvP becoming an e-Sport it needs 100% PvP balance. Thats ok if they split it. Finally, totally, irreversibly.
Its not that PvE or PvP aren’t cared for.
Its that balance is made solely for PvP – unfair and content is made solely for PvE – unfair. How bout uniting, were all in the same boat in the end.
Nither PvP nor PvE are arenanet´s favorite.

Let´s just ask for arenanet to split balancing and give PvP some content. But stop fighting about this in this odd fashion.
You guys are talking past oneanother.

Blimm your comment makes too much sense to be here. I thought we were supposed do divide players into factions such as PvPers and PvErs and shout at each other how they are responsible for destroying the game etc etc

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

I don’t know why people think these nerfs are for PvP. Very few of the things they’re nerfing were a problem in WvW or sPvP.

A statement about infinite monkeys at infinite keyboards applies here.

They’re trying to turn GW2 into an esport, which is never going to be successful because GW2 was not built from the ground up as a competitive game (compared to LoL, SC2, CS, etc.)

Think stacking and skipping trash is cheap?
