I have this to say about “One Path Ends” – the initial part of the story is simple enough, and fairly enjoyable but asking us to throw chunks of unstable material at energy beams which no matter how many you target or how fast are virtually impossible to prevent operating is frankly not at all enjoyable – and after twenty minutes of that, I logged out in disgust. And your ‘little helper’ there was no help whatsoever. Why, at one point frustrated beyond reason I tried to interact with her to see if she could fix this little issue only to discover she was useless. Thanks ArenaNET, great game – really great, but frustrating – and virtually impossible for anyone below the rank of ’’god’’

That’s not how you do it….

It’s a puzzle, you can’t just throw random, it’s a pattern.

I was confused at first, also. However there is a trick to it that makes it easy. Look at the magic beams above you and where they are coming from.

Let’s see if I can figure out this high-falutin’ spoiler thing so as to provide the solution for those who want it.

Any beam you hit flips the two spots next to it between on/off. So you choose your placement to generate sets of three beams crowded by each other, then hit the middle beam of each trio to turn them off.

Well, its not just that – I polished off the first and second lot of attackers easily enough, but the last chamber with the eye and the boss – no matter how or what I did, after twenty minutes I got nowhere. I went back in with another players and after completing it (I still do not know how) killed the boss and then got a message asking me to choose between staying in that story or going on to another one – I did that twice, and did not seem to go anywhere … still very confused as to what’s happening! And believe me, so are a lot of other people standing at the threshold at that event site.

I finished the story perfectly fine.

If you’re talking about the end of the story read spoiler. If you’re talking about the first few missions in the White Mantle place just throw fragments around and kill the things.

You throw a rock at the Eye while the shiny moving light thing is near it. The shiny light thing turns into an enemy and you kill it. After 2 times you protect Livia as she channels and makes the other shiny lights into enemies and you kill them. Once all shiny light are gone you attack Lazarus. Use shiny sword to finish him off at end when it prompts you. You ask the eye where Balthazar is and get a cutscene of him in the Crystal Desert messing up some pyramids. Some talking and then another cutscene saying the next expansion will be announced on August 1st.

I have never been more kittening furious on a story quest in any game I have ever played. If I decide to try this again (yes, I’ve read how to do it, still isn’t working), I can promise you, I will never repeat this trash storyline again. Great job with replay value.

But it was so easy… I finished all of it the first time without any help. Do you just have a really bad build and can’t dps fast enough or have not enough evades/heals?

I was completely disappointed with this episode and the new map…. I really enjoyed the first half of the season leading on from HOT…. hatching the egg…. taking care of Aurene…. preparing to fight the next elder dragon….. Then Head of the snake came along and all of a sudden this story line gets abandoned… in favour of Caudacus and White Mantle…. totally out of left field….. I was still optimistic and really was enjoying the new maps…. I thought the two story lines would come back together…. never did…. instead they try to wow us by bringing Balthazar into it at the last minute… lame move…. totally ruined the lore and the story imo…. Before the gods were… well… gods…. all powerful and distant…. now Balthazar is just some kitten making a power move in Tyria… dont like it. Yet with the final episode looming… I was still hopeful… they would tie it all together with a triumphant finale…. and um… we got One Journey ends… completely anti climatic end to the season.

Instead of pushing to a powerful climax… we get introduced to a new character… I found the banter incredibly cheesy and irritating…. Then we spend the rest of the episode relating to her…. Where is Dragon’s Watch? Where are our friends? Where is anyone or anything I could possibly care about? Locked away as throw away comments in the endless sea of irritating dialogue. The elder dragons we are supposed to be dealing with? Dismissed with hardly a word.

I thought the masonic style ritual that made up the second part was ridiculous… Terribly scripted and performed…. One of the worst pieces of storytelling Ive seen in a game… The lack of cutscenes or cinematics made the whole thing feel boring and mundane… as opposed to the second half of Season 2… which I felt was riveting…. by the end I was shouting for more.

I found the new map completely uninspiring… definitely the worst of the lot… full of gimmicks and no apparent reward…. the new mastery is lame…. I just really dont understand what they were thinking? As I said at the beginning… I am completely disappointed with this instalment…. They took a perfectly good series and dropped it on its head.

As far as it goes… I still looking forward to the expansion… will definitely be buying it…. but this episode did nothing to encourage me… In fact it kinda worries me about the direction the story will be moving in from now on… If I weren’t such a die hard fan and avid player…. I would be totally put off by this and probably wouldn’t buy the expansion… but I am… so I will.

I just hope this episode was just a glitch in the matrix and not a sign of the story telling that is to come…. Sorry for being so negative… but after finishing the story last night… I needed to get this off my chest…. Thanks for listening

Got past this and saw that pattern as well, but it wasn’t 100%. Not sure if that was a bug or not. Ran it twice and on second pass seems more like it was time based versus patterned. That said haven’t done another time after patches so….

An even easier way to do the puzzle is to turn all of the beams ON rather than turn them off.

I simply made sure I had a spot where two were on next to eachother and then kept throwing the stone 2 slots further each time untill either all were off or all were on. Works every time for me as the fragment hits and flips the spot it hits, plus the two next to it.

The every varying mechanics gets tedious. Off the bat, some folks find it hard, some folks find it easy – I’d wager a lot find it just a stupid waste of time.

The story is what could end it for some. Past episodes getting barley a mention, new characters come out of left field to do something that doesn’t make any sense. Forcing your character to take an oath that makes even less sense (hey, we only wiped out 2 dragon, why give us the benefit of the doubt).

Mechanic stupidity aside, this was the worst episode since LS1 where we escorted refugees.

sigh what has happened to this game.? Used to have epic world / social events…. and now.? Puzzles, mazes…..then the daily reset which makes every area so monotonously BORING…!!
I have been on GW since the very beginning…..then came GW2 and it was GREAT.! I have said this over and over like a broken record…..bring back epic world event and storyline like when Scarlett destroyed Lions Arch and we ALL had to battle the Marionette….to me, that was the BEST of GW….. these segmented map sections with their own little events just don’t cut it…… my opinion…..

If it’s too easy people complain.
Too hard; people complain.

It was a straightforward puzzle. Even blindly throwing shards would have reached one of the two solutions in about 20 throws.

I spent a tedious 20 mins or so on the first ‘puzzle’ with 1 beam always lit up which was super annoying… I solved it by guessing. Definitely not the brains here. Didn’t enjoy the second one either but that’s just my opinion.

I’ve seen that puzzle before in another game and it’s just a straight logic puzzle. You flip 3 nodes with every move so your last move is to deactivate 3 nodes. Yeah, maybe it takes a bit more thought at first but once you see it it’s easy.

The return of Guild Wars 1 characters is just one of those things that’s going to delight old players and mystify new players I guess. Livia has an acidic personality and it didn’t take me too long to suspect “Is this Livia?!” long before her reveal. Quite a few old timers have been waiting for this moment :o)

That bombshell Livia dropped that she still has the Sceptre of Orr… well now, I wonder how that’s going to play with Palawa Joko or if there’s any titans left to enslave… that’s a very powerful staff!

edit: and just in case anyone doesn’t realise, Livia is a ~280 year old necromancer. Wearing heavy armour and wielding a sword/focus like a guardian is new.
