So I know there is no more influence. And for the most part I love the update, every bit of it. But we used to be rewarded for doing dungeons, open-world events, world bosses, etc together with our guild. This used to be influence. I don’t see the same happening for favor, why was this taken out? It was a great way to hang out with your guild if guild missions were down to gather together and do dungeons, events to still earn points. I feel like guilds are kind of limited now.

And upgrades are now a paywall and drain the wallet of every member while old upgrades was just doing some events toghether and waiting for the research to be complete.

The wallet drain is real. I have no idea how smaller guilds are going to cope with upgrading their halls.

My guild has ~150 members, mostly all active, and we’re struggling to get even the first upgrades out of the way (I ended up fronting a large portion of it with my personal wealth).

Throwing in time gated materials like charged crystals was a nice tough, pushes guilds to collaborate and spread the load. But using large gold sinks is just frustrating.

Yeah I actually really liked the fact that we had to work together to come up with the materials, and maybe I have not yet seen some of the later upgrades because I don’t even have my guild hall, but from what I did see it does cost a lot.

I saw like 20 gold, 30 gold, 50 gold, for certain upgrades, and that’s a lot. Asking for people to donate gold would be a great idea, which is what I am doing for my guild hall. So far we are at 22/100 gold. But then again, those who don’t have HoT, won’t really want to donate their gold, so that limits the guild too. Least with influence they could still be doing events, getting gold, exp, loot, and still help the guild with influence. Now, they can’t.

I hate to break this to you, but the first few buildings (which you need to even get anything out of your guild hall) are going to cost you FAR more than just doing the expedition. To be fair, it’s not gold cost, the items are all basically farmable, but if you add up gold cost for the items, for just the first 3 buildings base level (not including any upgrades) we’re talking multiple thousands of gold worth of materials.

Collaborating and building a guild hall is fun for sure, but this is just a MASSIVE sink. Even with medium size active guilds we’re talking about double digit gold contributions from every member, just for the first few buildings. Which lets be real, 80% of guild members in any guild are poor and not going to be able to contribute much anyways (I’m sure the intention was to have them handle the cheap resources, but the people who can donate the expensive resources can cover the cheap stuff just from their banks without noticing, so the poor guys can’t really help). Leaving the strain of finding the materials on the management of the guild. I know I have thousands of gold sure, but I wasn’t expecting to need to use it ALL on the first few upgrades.

EDIT: Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t want to be able to purchase the upgrades outright at all. But some of these items are things people would much rather sell to progress their personal characters, thousands of gold is alot to ask from your guildies. Even massive guilds are going to struggle with this, medium guilds are going to have to really scrape to make ends meet (just to get the lower tiers, I cant immagine how long it will take to max a guild, that 6-8 month mark or whatever they quoted doesnt seem possible, I’m thinking years), and small guilds are out of luck for sure, theres no way, even with one or two very wealthy members, you’re not going to be able to get the materials without going bankrupt. And even then you’ll only have a few upgrades.

I’m in a guild of 20 members, we’re unlocking things with some ease.
But we’re mostly gatherer and “keepers”, our banks were already overflowing with materials.
Maybe the number of resources is tied to the number of people in the guild?
If you have ~100 members not participating, you have to do much more work than us?

Just getting the tavern which is the FIRST guild hall upgrade will cost you roughly 500G if you buy the requirements from tpThis is the most ridiculous thing I’ve witnessed in any mmo.

@Cookiez, Thanks for the info. This really sucks and discourages me now. I lead guild of 12, and half of them don’t really know how to make much easy gold. If anything my best friend, gf, and I and maybe one other member have over 100 gold. I feel as if we’re going to be in the “out of luck” category

I wonder though about multi guild members. Those in a regular PvX guild and maybe a roleplaying guild and a WvW guild. What if all those guilds have guild halls and want a contribution, or even set up a guild tax to fund the guild hall, X amount of gold or Y amounts of materials. What is hard enough for one person to contribute is now 2 times, 3 times, 4 or 5 times as much.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

it’s because all other guilds are racing that makes the prices higher.

It is opportunity cost. The price now is an “artificially high price” -said a dev.
You can’t use the current price to say it is riddiculous.
Take flax seeds for example, it is super easy to farm this. At the bottom of the Itzel Village in Vendant Brink there is a farm of flax. But people are still holding on their seeds while guilds are trying to buy. So the price is not what it should be.

Give it time.

Favor replaced guild Merits. Favor is gained by doing guild missions. Influence was replaced by Aetherium. Aetherium is gained over time(basically a glorified time gate). Aetherium also does not require your guild to do anything (or possibly anyone to even rep) it from what I see. This is a good thing for small guilds. I am in the process of making a excel spreadsheet and updating the wiki to provide the requirements for everything.

Oh and yes I would agree it is a item sink. This is a good thing as one is needed.

We talked at length about this in the guild hall cdi. i posted over and over again how this type of system would really be detrimental to smaller guilds because the costs would be so prohibitive. Why shouldn’t all guilds get to build up their hall? Why could content have been made to earn this just like the content that was made to actually get the hall. All my guildies really enjoyed the difficulty of getting the hall. It was difficult in a good way for a smaller guild. Building the guild hall should be the same thing. You get a mission to get supplies for your tavern. You complete that series of missions and you get all your materials! You can’t sell them so it doesn’t affect the economy and it gives guilds content to play together.

Instead they decided on a massive gold sink for everything that leaves small guilds out of a way to build a guild hall for their guild. It’s awful.

The game NEEDS gold sinks, this was a good idea, it doesn’t shut you out, you can still farm these things. It just means you can choose between, A: pay high price and get stuff quick, B: farm gradually and unlock slow.

It is not locking small guilds out of the content, it just may take them longer, As I lead a small guild personally I am OK with this as it gives us something as a guild to work towards with continuous small contributions. It’s actually had a very positive effect on the guild, people are running around in pve farming in groups for mats while in hot area. Others are throwing some hoarded mats in, some are doing dailies for quartz crystals, everyone is contributing a little and it’s having an overwhelmingly positive effect on the social atmosphere of the guild. We all want to have an epic guild hall, and we’ll work together to get it.

Please don’t paint all small guilds with the same brush, some are clearly not as impatient or short-sighted as others are, apparently. Just because you don’t like this system, does not mean we will all share that opinion.
