I think it would be fair to say that I am not the only person in the world who lives outside of America and finds the timing of these One Time Events that ArenaNet seems to love so much more than a little bit inconvenient.

As a dedicated player and someone who loves this game to pieces, I am really quite disappointed to find that – not only am I missing out on a chance to participate in these events, I am now being shafted out of quite significant amounts of in-game currency and items by not being able to attend.

I spend hard earned money on content, play for large amounts of time and am generally a very committed player. To find that people who could play during a one time event that is almost impossible for me to attend can ‘earn’ as much in-game currency and items as it took me months to earn in under 3 hours really does not go down well.

I get that you need to cater to times that suit a majority of players. However, I don’t think leaving those of us who play outside of ‘prime time’ at a major disadvantage, both in ability to play the game to it’s fullest and to participate in limited time content; as well as in-game currency does not strike me as the best way to do this.

As an Australian gamer, to participate in this most recent one-time event would have involved getting up at 7 am on a Monday morning to play in a 3 hour long event. People have lives and jobs outside of this game. Making content which is very difficult for a large portion of your player base to participate in, then providing insanely high rewards for this one time content, seems like a really bad way to do things when you are trying to promote Guild Wars 2 as an international game.

At the very least, make these ‘one time events’ accessible at multiple time periods through the day – even if it is only on that day. Then limit the number of times a person can participate in the event to once. Having to wake up at ungodly times of the morning, or even take time off from work to play in your events is not fun. I would love a chance to play in events, but so far I haven’t been able to do any of them, because of badly done timing on Anet’s part.

Hopefully you can work out a way to make these events more accessible to an international player base. To make a high reward single time event so inaccessible to your customers is a pretty bad way of doing business.

Yours sincerely,
A very unhappy customer,
Naerin.

Respect the player

We respect you—as a player, as a human being. This game we’re making may end up competing with your real life. It might fight for your free time alongside your friends, your family, your work, and whatever else you might be doing.

ANET’s advertising disagrees with the concept of one time events.

Yeah that was total bs, event started very late in the evening, nearing midnight here.
I couldn’t even stay til’ the end.
Would it really be that hard to make events start based continent they are suppose to be in, instead of making everyone follow US timetable?

not friendly for anyone with real jobs, but hey, we work for money so we can buy all the pretty things we want. So put up some Legendaries on the Black Lion, some of us that can’t make these events will be more than happy to actually pay for what we can not attend.

What annoyed me about the event was the dead stop bugs in progression like NPCs not spawning. I got to the third or fourth step in the CCC starting quest and the NPC would not spawn. There were about 20 of us players waiting. Then I just logged off. I did not have time to wait around for an NPC that was bugged to maybe be fixed by a GM.

The rest of the events happened while I was working so really didn’t care. I expect this to happen with every major event. Which is why the game is going to get stale for me quickly. Even knowing I missed something like this is irritating.

And I though the 15/11 patch notes was disappointing when I read the “Significant” Ranger quality of life bullet points. This last few days has been the most disappointing in my time as a gamer.

Anyway,
I really hope ArenaNet reads this, and takes it to heart.

Good post.

surely enough copied of the game were sold around the asia-pacific to justify an oceanc server?

That might help with a number of international player who got DC’ed right at the end of the event….

I wholeheartly support Naerin comets above.

I didn’t bother to show up for the finale because of:

a. Underwhelming rewards for Phase 1 and 2.
b. Halloween rewards were not that big
c. It’s friggin’ 4AM on a Monday (GMT +8)

Why not Sunday 4AM (GMT +8)? That’s still Saturday evening in NA. WTF ANet? Oceanics got screwed big time.

I feel you, I made a thread about the one time event during the MAD King event, looks like Anet likes to screw their customers over. ^^

Nothing we can do about that except for quit if you don’t like it.

I personally believe that there are simple solutions such as making the event repeatable(the reward will not), however, for some reason, Anet believes that what they are doing is break the immersion of the game.

Therefore, they’d rather screw over players halfway over the globe because they have our money already. So yeah, as much as i want to curse and swear over this. I have long given up, being angry over such a stupid company is not worth the cell loss.

They should have just plopped an npc in the middle of lions arch and had them give everyone a chest like the people got who were able to complete the lagfest and been done with it.

Maybe given out the ring, but not Legendaries. Legendaries should only be given out to people able to join the event.

No comments on the legendary, but i do think that ring and the bag should be minimum of reasonable compensation from event that starts on way too odd hours in some countries. I did phase 1 and 2 (as much as lag/bugs would allow me to), but phase 3 being on sunday, i had to drop out at some point. Can’t stay up all night for one event.

Hey,

Im so happy I saw this posted Naerin, this is exactly what I was thinking!!, I was very largely dissapointed cause hey unlike America which has the event on sunday most of the other world are getting up to work!!!, id love to go and do the event, first thing I did when I got home was instantly log in and try the event! but hey as I was told by 100’s of non Australians “sucks to be you its monday there”.. or “what a shame it lasted 3 hours! how could you have missed it”, yeah well not everyone can live off their parents and stay home, Ineed to make a living!

Im just very dissapointed being so involved in the beta and playing on release being so dedicated to this game, this is just like a huge kick in the teeth for me! that as they advertised it a one time event not to happen again! but hey I guess those who actually work suffer… thanks Anet

It’s a bummer that I didn’t get to participate, and missed out on what seems to be the first worthwhile event (reward-wise). I do not understand the reasoning behind 1-time events, especially since events in Guild Wars lasted for 24h, starting at 3h intervals. That made it available for everyone around the globe. It made more sense.

Anet has made some questionable decisions with GW2 lately, hopefully they’ll improve.

It’s not that simple. The events run simultaneously on EU and US servers, so I’d expect them to do the same on Oceanic servers if we get them. Then you need to consider guilds with Oceanic and non-Oceanic players, if the guild gets together on one server, some of them will be missing out.

Thank you for this thread. I also implore Anet to stop doing one-time events. I may not live outside the U.S., but I live in reality where my family and work come first.

I could only attend 45 mins of the event due to RL commitments, but it became clear very quickly that something needs to be done differently in the future. Even if you are able to do the event you just get an experience of all the worst aspects of the game:

- the huge zerg spewing so many spell effects that your screen looks like a 70s disco while on LSD, coupled with a complete inability to actually see your target
- evaded evaded evaded obstructed evaded
- culling of mobs due to the number of players in the area, so you end up constantly getting mashed by invisible champions and all your targets appear at half health
- zero experience or loot from any kill, even if you are in a party, unless you are extremely lucky

IMO future events should be instanced to groups of 20 max, and should repeat over several days so that everyone can do them.

Overall I’ve really enjoyed my time with GW2 thus far, but I also would agree that One Time Events in open world play are not a good idea. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Lost Shores event at starting time. I only had a little over two hours of game time, but I figured it would be enough. I was wrong. The overflow server I was on made it to the point where you’re herding the Ancient Karka after we’d dropped rocks on him and beat a few rounds of reinforcements. Then I had to leave to attend to real life.

So I spent a little over two hours and had little to show for it. My observations:
- No loot (Maybe one or two drops the whole time)
- Stacking sigils (like bloodlust) did not work
- Many enemies or AOE patches were invisible
- It really wasn’t a lot of fun – felt more like an endurance test
- It was too long – for most adults, even on a weekend, I’d estimate two hours should be about the max for a single event – some people likely can spend all day in game, but I’d guess that many (most) cannot

America is not the center of the world. I understand the game maybe made and sold there, but it was also sold worldwide, i’m pretty tired of missing out because my country isn’t in an American timezone…
