So… I remember hearing that, when I bought this game, all the cool looking gear would be accessible in game. However, I see really cool, one-day items that look better than the gear accessible by playing the game. Furthermore, it is only offered temporarily in the gem store. I don’t mean to cry, but this is ridiculous. Does anyone else agree? This promotes account trading.

Not sure who told you that. I’ve not heard that, but you can get anything in the Gem Store in-game by exchanging Gold for Gems.

Maybe what was mentioned was the BiS gear is available only outside the Gem Store.

Not sure.

Also, call me dumb, but what is ‘account trading’ and what does it have to do with Gem Store items? You aren’t allowed to trade accounts in GW2, but maybe what you are referring to is something else.

Again, not sure.

Then buy me wings which look more like an armor design accessory than a little backpack. (But you can’t they are gone)

Pay to Win? Gem store sells stat-less Skins, not equippable items, and largely back pieces or all-in-one Outfits. Yes, we need more stat-sets in game and more armor/weapon skins obtainable in game. That said, if you miss a neat looking item that you wanted then wait for it to go back on sale as a lot of the stuff does. And if it doesnt go back in the gem store, just remember to breathe and keep an eye out for another cool looking item?

Yes yes but seriously, It is the same as giving blank end game gear and selling all the good looking stuff in the shops. Why should I level crafting if I can buy all the best looking backpack skins. People can also market accounts this way to make some serious cash. (Sorry the title has been edited)

Different people have different tastes. I have lots of items that could be bought or sold, and I don’t necessarily wear them.

I have wings (paid 0 dollars for them), and no character is presently wearing them. Many times, gear is released in the Gem Store, and many players post about how ‘foogly’ they are.

Some players much prefer certain crafted items.

Remember, one player’s junk is another’s treasure!

Good luck.

Because crafting doesn’t sell gems. If this were a Korean MMO you’d need forge dust just to get anything beyond the basic skin.

Well either Gw2 is getting money for one day gem items or someone else is. I mean seriously, one person just buys a whole bunch of gw2 accounts, waits for a one day item, and sells them for more. How did the devs not see why one day purchases are bad.

Hell, that’s the case for most free to play MMOs. It works, too.

Because all the crap you buy with gems dont have stats? And make serious cash my kitten . Anyone dumb enough to try selling account typically gets permanently banned once Anet acts on it.

And how do ban a person who is purchasing multiple accounts? With different proxys? Anet acts like they can ban them but they cannot really stop it. Besides this is just one of many reasons why Anet shouldn’t have one day sales.

What?
Even if you have someone with a bunch of accounts (why someone would really have more then 2 at the most is beyond me but… okay…) they couldn’t ‘waits for a one day item, and sells them for more’…
Unless you are gifting an item directly from the Gem Store to someone else (which obviously you can’t do if it is not currently for sale,) you can’t (as far as I know) buy something like the wing back piece and then sell it on the TP…

Think of it like an investment. You buy say 30 accounts for some money and wait for a one day even’t. Then sell them all for twice the price if the items they acquire from events and one day purchase are really nice

OP thinks people hoard accounts, buy “exclusives” on one day sales (@OP, there’s been only TWO SUCH SALES to my knowledge, both of which are explicitly stated as PREVIEWS OF SOON TO COME ITEMS), then sell said accounts for “a bunch of money.” Why they do is beyond me, and I cba finding the tinfoil picture.

Why would someone buy an empty account just for (in this case) wings? Bear in mind that likely most people that want those wings in the first place want them on their existing characters. You know, those level 80, fully geared characters whose items they can’t move to a new account?

I have a hard time believing there are a lot of people who would (illegally) buy an empty account just for items that they can’t trade/move to other accounts. Not to mention those items will likely be sold again one day.

1. 24 hour sales of very good looking skins = surge in gem sales. a lot of ppl don’t have the gold to convert to gems so buy the gems to get the item.

2. 24 hour sales of very good looking skins cause the gem prices to increase in the gem – gold exchange prices. and ppl buy gems to sell for gold.

that’s about it really

Thank you. I was waiting for somebody to say this.

OP, no need to get all riled up. The 1 day sale items so far are sneak peeks. They’ll be coming back later for a longer period of time.

Selling these items as a preview for 1 day is a great marketing ploy- people rush to buy the items even if they don’t absolutely love them- they’d rather have them now (just in case they take a few months to reappear) than be left with an agonising wait. As a result, more people would buy them, gem-price sky-rockets, and then more people have to buy gems with real money as they can’t afford to buy them with gold.

And here’s that tinfoil hat picture you needed:

There are no gear to buy in the store what so ever. All gear can only be acquired in game. Wardrobe is something else, it have no stats and are only for looks, and there was never any promise what so ever made that all wardrobe can be acquired at any point.

For example I never supported the idea of backpacks instead of capes that would be hard to program because of clipping. The only two backpack skins I use are fractal capacitor and basic engineer backpack. All other backpack skins I always hide. And if there was an option to hide them on other players, I would do it! It just looks so silly, stupid even. Why would you like to have wings on your back when they actually can’t help you fly? Why someone likes to wear those Scarlet’s metal blades? It is also very silly looking…

For some reason majority of players like to show them so we can never expect some update to clipping with a set of capes. At least they added more backpacks which actually look like backpacks (even though also quite silly – for example backpack with anvil, or helmet twice bigger than character’s head).

Devs, sorry if I offended you by my opinion, but I think that you could have programmed those capes. In the end, you had them in GW1. … With all those gemstore and BL chest roulette skins you put into game every week or two, you certainly have enough recources to make it happen, but unless people who are obcessed with having every skin in the game stop buying those weird things you call backpacks, I guess we will never see true backpacks or coats in the game.

I actually looked to see if anyone was selling accounts based on exclusive skins (not Legendary) like the wings and I see none. I don’t think there’s a market to buy accounts simply because they have a 1day exclusive back piece.

The real money makers were the accounts with 10k AP+, multiple legendaries, max PvP rank, rare titles, maxed crafts, multiple ascended armor, full inventory expansions, multiple extra character slots, full bank expansions, personal banker, personal TP, unlimited gathering tools, etc. Not one listed any kind of backpiece skin as part of their sales pitch. Mostly because nobody really cares since backpiece skins have no stats and are completely subjective.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

The day releases are just pre-sales on items that will be available after HoT. Its a petty marketing trick to build hype for flash sales, but it is what it is. I doubt however its related to many account sales.
