One serious issue with this game
it is extremely frustrating when you have absolutely no control over it and there’s nothing you can really offer a person that you guild is better, unless it’s PvP oriented.
You can’t control people. That’s an unfortunate part of life. If you don’t make it a rule, you kind of have to accept their choices.
If there’s no “guild content”, don’t make a guild for running content. Make one for a social group – that, to my mind, is what a PvE guild would be for. People who like to chat together while they play and can run around areas or events together if they feel like it. If that’s not your thing, maybe guilds aren’t in this game.
I joined a guild to socialize with others who play GW2. Always a lot to talk about in guildchat. I didn’t know a guild should be a tool to achieve things in-game … or should it ?
1. Representing isn’t bad at all.. it’s good to have options. Maybe you should take a different approach and ask yourself “What’s wrong with my guild, why aren’t they representing?” and expand on that. People seem to like the three day guild bonuses for magic find and such, maybe you should invest in those. Also, would you prefer guild hopping? I wouldn’t.
2. There are plenty of semi-/hardcore PvE players that simply won’t PUG. People like efficiency (key term here), organization, and doing what ever it takes to lessen the grind. Guilds seem to provide that. Also, there has been problems with PUGs kicking people before the last boss. You shouldn’t have that problem with a guild.
3. What? You’re allowed to have your own opinion, that’s fine. A lot of people use guilds as a social hub.. to make friends and to form a community.
Instead of complaining about guilds, maybe you could provide some suggestions as to how you would better guilds as whole.
fun fact did you know that wow at release did not have raids? but never mind this old argument
but anyway I agree on few things there is really no need for people to be in more than 2 guild at once .. why do you need that? I can understand one for pvp another for social aspect but people that are joining every guild out there just for free stuff FU! ..
lots of guilds do events and when members shows up only for that or some rewards they deserve big slap in face …
Actually I really doubt that any serious pvp guild is allowing players to join any other guild maybe social but not another pvp
I don’t want raids sorry … problem with raids let’s look at wow they updated it frequently each boss was unique then new content was with less bosses and lasted longer before next update
then they added so called heroic mode which is copy paste same thing with 1 or 2 abilities
now they have no idea what they are doing they killed almost every MAJOR lore char .. funny how every character from books or war 3 become corrupted and must be putted down … so sad…
now as I want to start guild here is what I am hoping that will be implemented
1) guild vs guild
2)guild only events (not raids with gear updates) but something along lines I dunno special boss that awards lots of influence and bonuses for that particular guild and every representing member maybe some guild only legendaries that you can craft after you helped your guild in xxx ways for example got xxxx influence or participated in guild events
3)guild houses > i am sucker for nice things
4)more upgrades for guild probably something that last forever while you representing but not something game breaking like l2 but if I remember right those things were overkill
5)give people reason to be in your guild I don’t want xx members in my guild not even caring why are there.
TOTAL TRUE,
they need harder conetnet for guilds to work
and a guild hall to hang out and progress
My main has his own guild.
-He wanted it for the extra bank space.
-He likes the WvW buffs he can give out.
-Guilds can train for banners which give out buffs too. Want to give your guild an edge going into that dungeon? Drop some banner buffs for them.
There is more, like a guild chat that allows you to find help when you just can’t get past that Champion mob when you are nearly alone in a zone. Or finding that crafter who is willing to craft you the item you need for mats instead of your arm, leg and first born that most AH sellers seem to ask for any decent item.
I could go on.
Having a guild, a GOOD guild actually, is a necessity for organized WvWvW – with a good hierarchy and vent of course. I’m not saying it needs to be stiff or overly formal, but our guild works perfectly. I can’t imagine doing WvWvW any other way while having an equal amount of fun.
We also do PvE together and gank in EB puzzle… and also do world bosses. Thing is you have to motivate people properly, our guild management is great at that. It’s not easy but that’s where the great leaders shine!
I would rather be in a guild than not. I get +5% exp, +10% Magic Find and others activated (goes to all members) as the guild grows we get better upgrades.
there is absolutely no logical point in having a guild in this game.
influence points are useful for various stuffs.
1. Representing is absurd. I had plenty of players join my guild and 75% of the people online were likely representing another guild. Now, I let everyone know that I am completely fine with them joining other guilds, however, it is extremely frustrating when you have absolutely no control over it and there’s nothing you can really offer a person that you guild is better, unless it’s PvP oriented.
representing is working as intended. it is not anet’s fault if your guild members behave like this.
2. What’s the point in making a guild that only does PvE? The only thing that you would really need a group for is dungeons and late game events…but really even then you don’t necessarily NEED to sit around and wait for guildies to come help you out. The hardest part is organizing a coherent group of people to even do dungeons, that is if they are even high enough level to care.
to gather people with similar interests together? some people are only interested in the pve of gw2 and not the rest.
3. No actual guild content. I have yet to have played an MMORPG, and I’ve played many, where the guild functionality is so limited. Without raids and other things that guilds really tend to bring people together for in other games, what exactly is the point?
this is agree. the guild options are bit lacking at the moment.
however, we are able to proudly display our guild logo when we charge into battle in wvw and cut down our opponents!
The only point I can see in creating a guild is if you’re strictly WvWvW or sPvP to make a “point” in how epic you guild is portrayed, however, even then, I think that’s a huge waste of time.
well that’s what you think.
i think it is a very convenient way to group people with similar interests together.
kinda like a private chat channel for friends.
I just need to see more. Like I said, without game content that other MMORPGs have, I just can’t SEE the point of a guild. (it’s sadly even more dumbed down than GW1 and they were superb in that game).
perhaps you are just not using the guild function of gw2 correctly.
but yeah, more gw2 guild options functions would not hurt.
I agree.
The title of this game does not fit it’s content.
I think you’re going about guilds the wrong way OP. It seems to me like you’re trying to make one of those big guilds that recruit random people to do random things.
I’ve found that in GW2 PvE you make /join guilds as a means to an end, and they’re not really the huge social circle that other MMOs have had guilds be. They are only very temporary establishments for temporary goals IMO, and tbqh just seem to function as more of an extended friends list.
For example, on my world, I was one of the first players to hit level 80. There were perhaps less than 10-15 players at level 80 on my world when I hit it. I made a guild and invited all the level 80s for the first few days so that we would know which level 80s were online/offline. This allowed for easier contact between 80s, and allowed us to more easily coordinate to do level 80 events, dungeons, what not. Of course as more and more players hit 80, the guild became redundant, and so, I disbanded it.
Next example. Perhaps you are trying to farm a certain dungeon. You group with pugs, and more pugs and more pugs. Eventually you come across certain names and faces that are familiar, and you think are decent. You make a guild for the purposes of farming said dungeon, and invite players you think are good. This allows for each member of the guild to know that 1.) all the other members of said guild should be decent at the dungeon, and 2.) everyone in the guild should be up for a dungeon run if they’re not already in one. When you are (personally) done with the farming said dungeon and don’t ever want to see it again, you pass leadership to another member of the guild, and drop guild.
Other than some things like this, I really don’t see the point of having/being in a guild, save for having your own personal guild bank.

In my opinion representing system is quite genious. It allows the guild leaders to see the state of their guild before it’s too late. Like in this case. With normal “1 guild at a time”-system those 75% of your members would have left your guild completely. Now they are representing other guilds, but are still in yours too, so it’s not too late for you to try to make your guild more appealing.
In short, with normal system you would have lost those 75% completely. With representing system you have a chance to win them back.
For me the major appeal of a guild is the social side. Most of the time I just like having someone to chat with while I’m playing, but it also means having a group of people I can count on to help me when I need it.
It might be completing a dungeon, or recruiting more people to help with a DE. Sometimes it means someone to craft things for me without charging a fortune, or giving me tips for crafting stuff myself. At least once it meant giving me directions when I couldn’t figure out where I was going. And of course I try to repay the favour whenever I can, which sometimes leads to finding new events and things I’d miss otherwise.
But we also organise our own events. Everything from planned dungeon runs or WvW to parties and quiz nights.
There is no specific “point” to the guild but I get a lot out of being a member. Same as having friends in real life.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I have a guild with 5 friends and we love it for the boosts that we can have up at all times.
I agree.
The title of this game does not fit it’s content.
It does, cause Guilds are refered to the races and minor clans of tyria. Now they are all at peace somehow, but after dragons, and even now, guilds are at war.
Joined a guild to avoid PuG’s for dungeons. Ohh and magic find banner is nice too.
Other than that isn’t much point to a guild.
I couldnt go without my guild, however I do have to admit that compared to any other mainstream mmo i have played, this one is by far the least guild orientated.

Well said.
