Dear Devs,

Considering the fact that many 3D displays (specially passive ones) are not supported by nvidia 3D vision, many players use third party applications (like Tridef) to enjoy 3D content. Of course it might be unreasonable to ask Anet to support (all of) these applications, one annoying problem that can be easily addressed is the enemy’s (and other player’s) name tags. These tags do not contain 3D information (or if they do it is only available to nvidia 3D vision somehow) and as such they render at the wrong position. This creates a very unpleasant experience.

At this moment the only way to solve this problem is to hide UI completely (using Ctrl+Shift+H). A simple solution to this problem is to give the players the option to hide enemy’s name tags (specially the selected one!).

The same problem holds for some other 2D icons like merchants and hearts, but that might be too much work and not as necessary as the enemy’s name tags.

It would be highly appreciated if this problem is solved.

Kind regards,

Persian Mage

Or …
… could we just have that checkbox for 3D-rendering also for Tridef?
As far as I’ve seen in 3D-screenshots all that stuff renders at the correct depth for nvidia, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to allow other systems to use the checkbox too. This will be especially interesting when Oculus Rift and similar systems are released next year.

Yep. Works great except for those…… names.
I QQ’d. My next card will probably be an nVidia, but still would be nice for us without currently. So I’ll add my voice here.

I think even a command line option just to force enable stereoscopic 3D. could that be a solution? not sure what that would do tbh.

Anyways. Any solution would be nice for this. Please and Thank You. I’ve been reading that GW2 is pretty awesome in 3D. If I can get it smooth.. I will be golden.

For now I will just ponder other solutions.

Better focus on supporting VR imho. There will be two brands coming to the marked with VR soon (Both with very similar hardware) and two video-card manufacturers. The API’s provided Nvidia and AMD should work for any VR set, but seeing that there are only 2 VR coming to the market, it’s easy to test (and if needed code) specifically taking those two sets into consideration to get the best result.

I think it would be a bigger leap for 3D. Problem is that as far as I know, the API’s work on top of DX 12 (or maybe 10) but do not work on top of DX9.

Still I think, the focus should be on VR at this point, not on 3D-vision type of 3D solutions.

There is an option to hide/show enemy and ally name plates. (Party/squad are forced on though)

I would have thought VR and 3D are one in the same. It’s not just about putting glasses on. It’s just about rendering two different image states properly to get the desired effect. which is both required in VR and 3D.

I would love to have this as well.

I can play Guild Wars 2 with Tridef on my AMD card and it looks beautiful. Except for those names. It is quite annoying and somewhat headache inducing to be looking off into the “distance” and then have to pretty much cross my eyes to read absolutely any text, especially if there’s a lot of enemies or friendlies running across my screen.

At the very least, ANet, please put screen depth information on the text as well so if we have to use third party solutions like Tridef, the text doesn’t render at HUD-level.
