Q:
If GW2 is an open, online, PERSISTENT WORLD (emphasis on that), why do I leave Lions Arch in the daytime through an Asura Gate to Divinities Reach and arrive at night? Or better yet, walk right outside Lions Arch where it was daytime to a nice starry night in Gendarran Fields?
Asura Gates are supposed to be instant and the game world is a small part of the world it’s supposed to reside on. Not near far enough to pass through a day/night cycle. Is this a bug or an oversight?
This is about changing zones on the same server. I also think that overflows should be synced to the same time as the servers to keep the persistent world feeling.

A fair point. I’ve gone from night in Salma, to daylight in main Divinity’s reach, and back out to darkness in Queensdale…
agreed, they really need to fix this…
Is this something to do with overflow servers? I’ve noticed that they are always on a different day/night cycle than the main server. To fix this they’d just have to sync up all servers to the same day/night cycle.
May have something to do with overflow servers (may not). But I’ve gone from night to the bright of day in Lion’s Arch just by moving from overflow back to the regular server. So if you’re bumping to the overflow – which may be on a different night/day cycle – when you travel, that may explain it. I personally get bumped to overflow every time I enter a gate.
If that’s not what’s going on, then, well, I couldn’t begin to guess.
I have noticed this going from my server to an overflow, but what prompted this question was not on an overflow. I was on my server the entire time.
To be fair, the game itself isn’t seamless. I have a hard time caring about continuity in a game that has loading screens between zones.
I think they have real issues to deal with way before this, lmao…………

Well ya, but the point is the claim has been made that this IS an online persistent world. How can it be if the sun can’t even rise and set at the same time at different parts of it? Probably the biggest criticism of GW1 was that it was instanced. I don’t see much difference here except people can enter and leave the instance at will and the mobs respawn. If the time’s were synced it would help the illusion of a persistent world immensely.
this is an overflow issue, not a server issue.
Different time zones?
I would have just quoted myself saying previously that this isn’t about overflow, it’s about changing zones on server, but the quoting thing isn’t showing up again.
This isn’t about overflow. It’s about changing zones on the same server.
In fact, I just did this. I was in Lions Arch and when I logged in I was put on the overflow. So, I waited until the thing popped up to take me to the server. Once on my server I noticed that it was daytime in Lions Arch. I then ran out of Lions Arch to Gendarran Fields and did not get put on the overflow. It was nighttime. This isn’t going from one city to another, this is just going outside the gate.

For that matter, for the sake of continuity, why can’t the overflows be synced with the servers? They’re all the same time because we don’t have east coast/west coast servers so they should all be the same. It would make the game more seamless and provide that illusion of a persistent world (even though it really isn’t).
