Only a few new Legendaries on HoT day One?
I picked up on this too.
I would assume the former rather than the latter.
To me (and fairly objectively speaking) a handful would be around 5 or 6. I wouldn’t describe the total amount of weapons a “handful”.
I’m just hoping that this “handful” includes commonly used weapons across all professions. :P
They’ll likely release the ones that share the same weapon types as Moot, Quip, and such. You know, the ones that tend to be more “for fun” than say Twilight, Bifrost, and such. The next batch after that would likely be the “for fun” versions of greatsword, staff, etc.
I took it as they’re adding an entire set of new legendaries and will add more later, like specializations. ;s
When they first announced new legendaries, they did say they were going to do some at a time, likely beginning with the less serious ones.
I want my Wazer Wifle for Teef pl0x.
Maybe the first batch will match which new weapon each specialization will feature.
If they need ideas for new legendaries, why not do a “Design a Weapon Contest” like in the old GW1 days. The community can come up with a ton of ideas I’m sure.
…So does this mean that not ALL of the new Legendaries will be available the day Heart of Thorns hits store shelves, like maybe we’ll have access to Sword, Greatsword, and Bow, and then, a week or two later, we get Rifle and Hammer and Dagger, and then, another two weeks later they add in Staff and Pistol and Torch, and so on,
Or maybe they will give us a couple greatsword skins on HoT release, six months later a shield and a hammer skin, then one year after that a bow skin.
All the while releasing monthly new skins in the Gem Store, under the Black Lion Chest lottery system.
I must say I was a little disappointed that not all of the new legendaries were finalised already – I would have thought they would be considering HoT was announced a while back :-/ maybe it was announced too early and they’re struggling to get all of the HoT content finished? If this setback is an indication to go by…
Anywho, since all the new legendaries aren’t finished, this would be an ideal time for Anet to bring back the design-a-weapon contest. Months before HoT’s release, and enough time for players to get designing!
I live in hope… :-P
i could be misinterpreting but i think they are just waiting to talk about them at a later date not that they are or aren’t ready
My read is that we will NOT see 19 new Legendaries covering all weapon-types on Heart of Thorn’s launch day.
How often do you refer to nearly twenty larger-than-a-breadbox objects as a “handful”?
Not often, I’m thinking.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

…did anyone else read this?
It says, and I quote
“I know you’re all dying for more information on new legendary weapons, but we’d like to delve into them more with a dedicated blog post in the future. For now, I’ll say that we’ve been working kitten new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates.”…So does this mean that not ALL of the new Legendaries will be available the day Heart of Thorns hits store shelves, like maybe we’ll have access to Sword, Greatsword, and Bow, and then, a week or two later, we get Rifle and Hammer and Dagger, and then, another two weeks later they add in Staff and Pistol and Torch, and so on,
or that we get the complete 19 new Legendaries plus Precursors on day One of HoT, with new Legendaries of each weapon added in later?
A week or two? Um, did you read the complexity of the 3-Tier Mastery system for just the Precursor? I’m thinking more like a month or 5, minimum between released updates for these.
I really hope that “handful” does NOT include a Greatsword, which there are 3 already (two different ones and one that is a combination of those two). I’d much rather see them releasing most common used weapons first such as a Staff, a Dagger, and a Scepter. Makes more sense logically speaking.
This sort of worries me. I assumed that HoT would be a bulk of new content and not access to “future updates”.
~Desolation~
The first batch will be 4 greatswords.
Calling it now, underwater legendary weapons will be planned for the last batch, never released, and then quietly forgotten.

What are these “underwater” weapons you speak of?
But more seriously while you’re probably right it won’t matter much… until they cave and give us a “Paragon” Guardian specialization that uses Spears on land .
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Seems kinda unfair to release just a handful and leave some people unable to compete in the I built a HOT legendary race, which you know is how a lot of people will be thinking. This is another epicly bad move on Anets part.

New legendary weapons are not game “content”; they’re skins. Personally, I hope the focus of HoT will be greater PvE variety as opposed to the regular “let’s stand 1200 units away and mash #1” as how PvE exists today (except for the Silverwastes; that place is the real deal and a one hell of a welcomed challenge).
Some people just have to complain about something.

…I don’t give a crap about the three tiered mastery system for the precursor hunt to be honest. Not because I don’t like the idea – I love it. If you add in the fact that Legendaries won’t be tradeable, the Legendaries will be more Legendary than they are now.
But I’ve read about the argument that “You won’t be able to do the three tiered Achievements in a few weeks, so don’t worry about now having access to all legendaries on day one.”
But, and I’m just making an example here, since we don’t know about the Mastery etc, let’s say we will be able to do Staff, Greatsword, and Longbow.
And the Collection for one Precursor takes, say, one month to do. So, after one Month, you can have either a Staff, a Greatsword, or a Longbow.
But maybe you play an Engineer that doesn’t have access to one of those – you wait another 2 Months until the day they release the Legendary Rifle. So now, you’ll have to work for one more month – that’s three months since release until you are done with your Precursor.
It’s just… I don’t know… poor that they don’t have all the legendaries ready the day they want to release HoT.
In my eyes HoT seems more and more rushed…

quote me the section you think says that
i mean i could be as i think i stated earlier be misinterpreting it but I think they just didn’t want to give details in this blog post
This is one of many reasons I believe that HoT will be just a LS2 quality with few feature pack style changes. Not much substance. Feels like a fast way to get money after china fiasco.
It’s seeming more and more like HoT is just going to be a paid LS… you will have to pay up front but the content will still be released at the pace of the LS updates…
Anyone who thinks we are going to get more than 3 new legendary weapons, and that there will be less than 6 months before the second round is simply delusional. These are the same legendary weapons that:
“absolutely will be added to the game before the end of 2013”
I am fine with this. It looks like they are tailoring the path we take to each precursor based on the nature of that precursor (eg, partying and hunting for Moot). I would rather they take their time and develop legendary paths in the game for each and every legendary. And, at the same time, I would rather they not delay the launch of HOT to do so.
For me, the path to a legendary should be something memorable – something you’re reminded of every time you look at that legendary – even going so far as to add in unique instanced encounters associated with certain weapons (For example, fighting a massive air elemental at the end of the Zap sword chain).
As much as some people want the devs to have a magic button that spits out instant content a few seconds after they announce it, the reality is doing something like this right should take time – and if, in the mean time, they feel that the expansion is ready, it shouldnt be held up by that progress.
I also read it as we might not get the full set on day one (assuming theres a lot of work involved here, between the legendary design and all the collections for its precursor), and that they will be adding them in a few at a time afterwards. I’m ok with that. Maybe “generation 2” is more than just 1 per type, which is why they wont be all ready at launch? The blog post doesn’t really say.
…if you look at what they did in the last tree years with their game, and the very little information they give to us about HoT, it’s just logical to be scpetical about these things
We’ll get the greatsword on day 1, then the rest will come next year.

imo you have gone past skeptical to downright pessimistic
not saying you can’t or anything of course
as someone who hasn’t gotten any legendaries yet (mostly my own reasons and not anets (quit for a while) i’m looking forward to the new system
Like I said, the Idea of the Precursor Hunt is really, really intrigueing. No doubt there. But the fact that there won’t be all Legendaries just strikes me as odd.

I’m new to the game, but it’s hard not to be skeptical when they promised players new Legendaries by the end of 2013 as a part of the game without additional DLC/paid feature requirements as well as a new means of obtaining them. It is now 2015, said items aren’t out, and when they do come out additional cash will be required to get them. Just playing devil’s advocate here, but over a year-and-a-half behind schedule and with promises broken wouldn’t make anyone optimistic about anything.
Some people just have to complain about something.

Something?!
It’s a pretty big deal, at least for me.
We were supposed to get a new batch of legendaries back in 2013. 1 1/2 year later we will just get 6 new weapons instead of 19.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.

We did have a post in October / November 2013 from Colin stating that those things would not make their end of 2013 deadlines. The announcement for those items also came with a disclaimer that it was not set in stone and could change for a variety of reasons. We further had a comment from one of the community coordinators around the April 2014 feature patch that precursor crafting was not in that feature pack and was delayed due to changes to the core game.
So it’s not like we didn’t know.
Beyond that, they never said it would be free when they implemented it.
I’m noticing a trend amongst Arenanet about all this HoT hype and it is worrying me.
When specializations were first announced they confirmed that more specializations will be added after the initial release of HoT, that’s great news, it will increase character customization down the line and generally increase the longevity of the game.
However, with the recent announcement by anet regarding legendaries I am worried by the fact that only a handful of legendaries will be available at launch and the remaining will be released during subsequent updates.
This is truly worrisome, who knows, the next blog post topic might be about guild halls and they might even repeat what they recently said for legendaries “At the launch of GW2 HoT, there will be a handful of guild hall types available, but with subsequent updates after the initial launch the remaining guild halls will be added to the game via patches.”
If they continue to do this then essentially we will be purchasing a portion of the expansion? But people will argue that all the remaining features will be added with subsequent updates after launch. Yes, that’s true, but these were promised with the expansion, any live updates after the release of HoT is essentially not part of the expansion.
How will this work for people who have not purchased the expansion, why must they download patches with content that was promised at launch of HoT which they cannot even access?
I’m just a bit confused by Arenanet, they knew that not all legendaries will be finalized before release, they clearly acknowledged that in the blogpost, then why even bother. I’d rather let them postpone the release of the expansion and make sure everything is ready rather than them saying “shall be released after initial launch via subsequent updates.”
What are they doing? What have they been doing for the past year or so? I feel as if a lot of the HoT blogposts in the upcoming future will be like “not all of this content will be available at launch but don’t worry, the remaining aspects of it shall be added to the game via subsequent live updates.”
What? What the kitten? I mean what?
P.S I’m not saying that this will happen but the concern is valid and I just hope that anet do not pull this card for any future announcements regrading the features of this expansion.

i know for some people this isn’t the case but for me i don’t want them delaying the expansion because a few skins with cool effects aren’t ready

Same. I’d rather have something over nothing.
I’d rather they deliver a finished product with a new major questing system that will appeal to all professions. There should be viable Legendaries of each type from my perspective. It doesn’t server the game as a whole to introduce a feature that so many are excited about then to leave some professions completely out in the cold.

I’m going to have a really good laugh if the “live updates after the release of HoT” get turned into other expansions we will be expected to pay for. So HoT would give us a couple new Legendaries, a couple new guild halls and a couple new maps, only for more options to be released later as another expansion, at the same price point.
