Open world GvG
So i just change my guild tag on the fly, when im low on health?
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
So if I’m roaming in WvW and I suddenly get ganked but I don’t want to die, I’ll just click on this little feature and become invulnerable?
Just another attempt at open world PvP. It’s already been discussed.
And actually, wars with an entire guild is a terrible idea. I can see where a guild of 20 would have lots of fun being ganked by a guild of 400.
Hopefully one of these days the mods will just auto-stop these open world combat ideas.

ShiningSquirrel: You chose who you want to start a war with though and you have to accept the challenge. If you a guild of 20 active members win against a guild with 400 active members, then the guild with only 20 members should get a much bigger reward.
Herr der Friedhoefe: Why? it works. You’re not affected by it unless you’re in a guild with Guild War active.

I cannot see any sort of system that would work.
You’re going to have guilds abusing this feature left and right to get an edge.
The only way to get open world GvG working is to leave it like it is (or was) in the borderlands map.

It could be like this though. While you’re representing a guild with Guild War on you can represent another guild, but the guild with Guild War on will still be represented as your Guild War guild, so you can still be fighting Guild War for that specific guild while you are representing another guild.
There’s always ways to avoid being caught in the middle.
If you don’t want to be a part of this Guild War, you may leave it, but then you can’t join the Guild War again in those hours it’s active.
Instead of being negative and calling Open world GvG out the door. Can you please be constructive and give ideas on how to make it work? this forums sometimes or often tends to write comments with zero worth toward the subject.

probably a negligible detail OP chose to omit: Tera offers this feature ONLY on the few dedicated open PvP servers and you actively choose to play there from the very beginning of your character to cap.

It would still be a bad idea because in addition to all the boons that get applied right now inbetween players, they would also have to calculate conditions and damage, which means that Anet would have to lower the population cap on every pve map.

How would this be any different than 100+ people at Tequatl or any other big event in the game, while stacking boons and conditions. Damage have nothing to do with fps or lag. Sorry but you lost this one.

How would this open world guild war affect event scaling in a zone? Suppose 2 guilds of 20 members each are fighting and I’m trying to do an event nearby? Won’t that event be scaled up so that I couldn’t possibly do it, even though the other 40 people aren’t doing the event?
In a game with dynamic events, this is a terrible idea.

I’m not sure you read my post. GvG will be for the guilds in active Guild War. Players that aren’t in a Guild War won’t be affected. If you don’t want to be in a Guild War, then you don’t. GW2 don’t need PvP servers for Open world GvG, as the Guild War is optional and not forced upon you as a player.

Processing damage and conditions does influence server performance. It is one reason why there is an aoe cap.

That’s true and that wouldn’t be good at all. I suppose the game could recognize a Guild War being active nearby and by doing so it won’t count for the players in an active Guild War.
Though, if there are players in an active Guild War and those players want to level normally in PvE at the same time, then there would be that problem. How would you avoid that then? well, there could be a request window appearing for players active in a Guild War when they are near an event, the event would ask the player if they would like to participate in the event.
Sure there will probably be trolls, but as the game works now you often see players running into an event scaling it up and then running away or just standing afk, so tehre wouldn’t really be any difference.

Yes, that is true. I don’t see how this become a problem though. There already are events with 100+ players and plus the other players roaming the zone. If two guilds decided to fight it out 100 vs 100 in a zone, then it wouldn’t be a problem.
Well, it’s optional to be active in an Open world GvG. If you don’t like it, then you don’t participate.
The fact that these open world pvp types are so persistent with this on the forums is exactly the reason why so many of us never want to see it become a thing. You guys don’t know how to take no for an answer, and your attitude would be the same if open world dueling or GvG ever became a thing.
I have nothing against dueling, just take it to an instance or WvW.

The difference is that those events only have players on one side of the equation, with pvp the complexity of everything climbs through the roof. that’s why you’ll never see 100vs100 in wvw… the performance just collapses.
which means if pve players trying to do an event suddenly have 60+ players in two groups fighting around them, it’ll directly affect their performance, whether they are participating or not.

Exactly this. I wont deny that Open World GvG might be a nice addition for some people but it would mean a lesser game experience for the majority of the player base.
We have PvP and WvW to do small and large scale GvGs. IF Anet decides to put some resources in developing GvGs, it should be in those areas and not in PvE.
Just the amount of smack talk and degeneration of map chat that this would bring along would be bad enough to not consider it.

In all my gaming history i have never EVER seen any open world pvp have more then 20v20 (and i’ve played a lot of pk oriented mmo’s.
In theory u could have 400v400 but this just doesn’t happen.
Also no serious pvp guild will EVER fight during a meta event becouse reaction and response time is key in pvp. so no, u will not see a 60v60 during a meta lagfest, at most u will see the occasional gank of a small party during one of those.

See this, this right here? This is why I don’t want PvP “any time, all the time”. I had those games getting into MMOs, and I really didn’t like some of them. Meridian 59, where you could be hunted into being unable to play because someone decided they needed the lolz. Ultima Online, where you were either really good at PvP and understood the few quirks of the system . . . or you were just a lamb to the slaughter doing anything outside of town.
I do not want PvPers messing with my gametime.
I don’t want to have to click “no” or set myself to “ignore all fight requests” just so I can have piece of mind. I do not want to be harassed over refusing to fight. I do not want to have to defend myself when I’m not in WvW, and I honestly think games have gotten past this need to include an open-world PvP option.
And I really, really, have become weary of being sneered at for not wanting to partake in something I really stink at, because “it’s the only true way to play the game” or some similar sentiments.
Your argument is invalid
Since I was replying to someone else and using their numbers to counter their argument, I think it’s your response that’s invalid.

This is exactly the attitude I’m talking about. Anyone who doesn’t want to duel is automatically a carebear.
I’m a regular in WvW and I don’t really run with the zerg. When I’m out roaming and some guy in the distance bows in my direction, I bow back, and It’s On!
That’s what WvW and combat areas are for, but the open world here is a collaborative effort by all players playing on the same side. Open world dueling would destroy that.

Tera is the pits…in community and gameplay. Flopped a few months right outa the box. Why would ANet want to bring a failed methodology to a successful game?

i never said the entire GW2 game, i said the PvE open world.
i choose not to play PvP and i love to stay as far away as possible from it, the reason why it works in other games is because they have dedicated PvP servers, GW2 doesn’t.the only way you will ever see this is when Anet decides to add PvP servers, till then you can hold your breath for a long time.
I’m not sure you read my post. GvG will be for the guilds in active Guild War. Players that aren’t in a Guild War won’t be affected. If you don’t want to be in a Guild War, then you don’t. GW2 don’t need PvP servers for Open world GvG, as the Guild War is optional and not forced upon you as a player.
ok, then how do you prevent a GvG from ruining my end of the game’s enjoyment, how do you make sure i don’t see them, how do you make sure they don’t bother me, how do you make sure they don’t kill events, etc…
you’re only thinking about one side, think about the other side to for a change.Read my posts above and you’ll know the answer. I bet you have the answer yourself but you don’t bother to care, because you’re full of yourself. Can’t really argue with a troll, unless i troll my self, and i’m not going to troll.
Trolls on a horse in GW2?
Not gonna happen.

probably a negligible detail OP chose to omit: Tera offers this feature ONLY on the few dedicated open PvP servers and you actively choose to play there from the very beginning of your character to cap.
Tera is not GW2.
exactly why not, if you want open world GvG go play tera on a open PvP server, no need to ruin it for ppl who don’t want to see any mention on PvP at all in a PvE open world.
I don’t see how Open world GvG would ruin GW2. So Tera is the only game which is supposed to have Open world GvG and no other games?

Throw down the gauntlet and immediately come out swinging. Is that your idea of defending your idea? I seriously doubt anyone can take your idea seriously if that is how you’re going to respond as soon as someone disagrees with you.
Having said that, here’s my thoughts on your proposal. I don’t like it. When I’m out doing PvE tasks, the last thing I want to see is a bunch of players beating the tar out of each other. When I’m in the PvE world, I’m working on PvE things and trying to stomp out the PvE enemies. The last thing I want to see while I’m out doing whatever I’m doing is “lol get gud nub.” And before you say “that doesn’t happen,” I can tell you I’ve seen it. It does happen. I don’t like it and I don’t want to see it out in the open world. There’s a place for that, and it’s not out in the open world.
Simple.

Open world PvP is something that will not, and should not, happen in GW2. If you want big PvP fights, go to WvW. It is available to everyone from lvl 2, so I don’t really see why they would need to add stuff that would hurt quite a big part of the player-base, when said thing already exists.

Dude it’s a great idea, I want it, the worlds are empty enough already it would help populate them, it goes with the theme of the game, but I just don’t thing Anet cares about GvG at all.
Maybe they are planning GvG for Guild Wars 3 or something.
Not in open PvE. The lore doesn’t support GvG anymore since everyone has had to come together to fight Zhaitan.
Make it it’s own arena where they don’t affect dynamic events, can’t affect a map’s performance, won’t cause overflows on maps with world bosses.
That way you can more easily do GvG across servers without having to have one guild guest to the other. Then guild members who do not wish to GvG are not forced to either leave the guild since changing who you represent would be too abused by both sides or not log on should they choose to not participate in the war.
And this would allow guild members of opposing guilds to be able to participate in temple events and world bosses without killing each other accidentally.

That’s not my only response to people in this thread who disagrees. Might look above to all the others i’ve given an answer to. It’s pretty tiring to answer the same things over and over. Also his post was full of troll.
So you assume people will write immature comments like “lol get gud nub” only because there’s Open world GvG. I find that interesting but wrong. Sure, there will probably be kiddos with immature behavior in the game, but they exist in other areas of the game as well. Like in dungeons, SPvP, PvE etc. If you find them annoying and your feelings got hurt you can always report them and hope ArenaNet give them a warning.

Open world GvG would improve the game, populate the game world and make it feel more active. I don’t see why it would hurt the game. WvW is a zergfest over and out, it’s not for everyone that enjoys free roaming PvP. Open world GvG would be for those players that enjoy free roaming and zergless PvP that happens on random.

No, it would not improve the game.
It would hurt those of us that want to keep PvP out of the PvE world while only help the tiny minority that want the ability to PvP everywhere.
WvW might be a zergfest, but it is PvP.
PvE is against mobs, not against other players.
You also show lack of understanding of WvW in your posts.
What you are requesting is fully possible (and do happen quite often) in WvW. You are not forced to run around with the big mega-zerg after all, and most organized guilds don’t.

I’m assuming that immaturity will happen because in every single game I’ve played where open PvP was prevalent, it *did happen. So it is a very valid assumption.
To be honest, I shouldn’t have to report rude behavior. I shouldn’t have to deal with it in the open world… period. My feelings don’t get hurt. I just don’t want to see it. It ruins the PvE game play. It’s simple, really.

How would that work with players barely starting the game and still adjusting into the battle system. All the opposite guild would have to do is roam around starter areas and wait for easy pray to appear. That wouldn’t be balanced at all. At the same time during World Bosses and Champ Trains it would cause chaos making people practically quit the game or at least the Guild they’re in.
When talking about 20man guild vs 400man guild, and their rewards, you simply stating that the 400+ man guild will never have a better rewards because it’s big. While small guilds will always have a chance at winning. That could be easily exploited with 1-2 man guilds where they kill one or two people and simply switch tags for remainders of the “challenge” so you’ll never find them.
Nice idea, but it won’t work in GW2 with the system we have in place. At least not without frustrations and headaches. Last thing I want in this game is for every jumping puzzle to be like WvW jumping puzzle where you have a group of campers waiting for you at the very end. No thank you.

He’s more talking GvG, if you weren’t in a waring guild you wouldn’t have a risk of dying. Or at least less of a risk. Two opposing guilds going at it on a jumping puzzle could affect visibility for those not in the waring guilds.
And I would have it turned off in dungeons, fractals, and cities (allowing guilds to not have to worry about landing in a dungeon or fractal with an opposing guild if they are having to PUG it, and giving a safe place for people to buy things and craft without having to worry about getting killed.
If they add it, they better add a GvG chat channel so that any and all smack talk can be put there. Any smack talk on other channels would then be reportable. So that players who do not wish to be effected by GvG do not have to be affected. And that way players can smack talk as long as they don’t get too carried away with the insults. And wouldn’t take over map or say chat.
However, you do bring up a good point:
Any guild that wants to participate in this will likely no longer take in new players. Because those new players would likely be easier kills. And would demand that during guild wars all members play level 80 characters since under level 80 isn’t able to be fully traited out and wouldn’t be as good.
However, I’m opposed to this being in open PvE because I don’t trust ANet to implement it well. I want it in it’s own little separate area where they can better implement it. Since if they did it in its own separate area, they can create interesting maps for it that are smaller to reduce the hide and go seek aspect of GvG to a not as annoying level.
Man u just open’d Pandora Box here. Now all PVP haters gonna spam u with " go play WvW",or go play “spvp”.I just got it few min ago that this community is vary selfish and they dont care what other people want. You give suggestion and they will bash it instantly wile at same time whine how living world sux,how there is no endgame and so on..
Open world GvG would improve the game, populate the game world and make it feel more active.
you and others have mentioned this a few times but I don’t understand how implementing this would “populate” the world.. what is it about having this GvG model for open world pvp that would lead to more players in general and more players in currently unpopulated zones specifically?

DISCLAIMER: I’m very new to GW2, I’m making a statement about something I know very little about. I’m doing that to hopefully learn a few things about the game w/ some constructive discussion. Please feel free to correct/point out any assumption and/or ignorance.
EVE Online has something similar to this in ‘hi-sec’ space. For those unfamiliar, hi-sec is a part of the game where none consensual PvP requires sacrifice on the aggressor when done outside some in-game mechanics. The EVE mechanic of War Declarations allow corps (guilds) to do effectively what OP suggests, declare a timed war on another for ISK (gold). The time is one week. Each week the declarer can stop, or pay up for another week. And yes, typically the aggressed typically don’t like it, but it does add an element of game play that is actually more fun than you’d think.
I don’t completely understand dynamic events, so I’ll be the first to admit to not understanding the ramifications on that point.
To the point of camping banks and/or TP, there are mechanics in GW2 to get around that. Or, and this more likely a rule to be used for technical limitations, major hubs are off-limits to warring. Perhaps it would be only allowable out in the ‘open areas’
As far as everyone being lvl 80 in a GvG, as I understand it, the game scales chars down the area. Why not go with that? Again, I’m ignorant of ramifications.
To the point of chars joining/dropping/representing a guild during war, that is something ‘carebears’ in EVE will drop and reform to avoid. If GvG declarations had a spin up time, the time it takes from aggressor declaring and war staring, there’s a mechanic in place to do this.
My final point I’ll concede that, yes, this can lead to MAJOR griefing without proper mechanics & balances.
If done well with the right balances, this could be fun, interesting & and add an interesting new twist in a game that already has interesting new twists.
Hope I didn’t offend, as that wasn’t my desire. I’m new, but hoping to be here for the long run. I’ve enjoyed my short time here.
