Open world GvG
If they ever add open world PvP the only way i see it is as in APB Reloaded.
I will not give any details. If they are interested they can look for themselves
I’m not opposed to Open world pvp in any game, but with GW2 setup it just wouldn’t make sense. Mainly because of how the game has been set up thus far.
For me, when ppl speak of GvG I immediately flash to Guild Wars and the mode. I don’t think the phrase was used before then. I think if Anet sponsor’s true GvG, we will see an actual mode for it and most likely delivered through spvp. That is my personal hope anyway.
Biggest reason for no? Manipulation. Given we can rep multiple guilds, a guild could create two guilds, basically declare war on itself, and kill each other for rewards and ranking.
Guilds in SWG did this to their alts, they just created a separate faction guild, put their alts in it, and murdered them for rank and GCW rewards.
Add this to the aforementioned other issues.
If something can be cheesed for rewards, it will be.

You should only be able to be in one Guild War at a time. Also. In GW2 guilds are account wide.

So your current guild split into two smaller guilds, declare war on each other and manipulate and get rewards that way.

Then you don’t get any rewards. Plus you have to challenge multiplie guilds at the same time. 3-5 guilds or maybe more. The guild with most kills at the end of the challenge wins. If the guilds you’re challenging are less active or idle (afk) you won’t get any good rewards, might not get anything at all.

Here’s what they are saying.
Guild A wants to get the super special rewards that comes from beating a guild that’s larger than they are. They know that no guild is going to want to just let that happen so it’s not a guaranteed win.
So they get together and decide to war amongst themselves. Since you can’t harm anyone that’s in your guild, even if you are in two guilds that are warring against each other, Guild A decides to send 75% of their guild to Guild A Temp. They are kicked out of Guild A once Guild A Temp has been formed. So they are no longer in both Guild A and Guild A Temp. Guild A declares war on Guild A Temp. The members in Guild A Temp are instructed to let members in Guild A beat them so that Guild A wins the war.
Guild A wins the war. Invites are then sent to the members of Guild A Temp. The rejoin and Guild A Temp is deleted.
Then look at guilds that currently have multiple guilds due to having more than 500 members. They can already game the system really easily.
You shouldn’t be able to call a Guild War on any guild you are a member of, even if you’re not representing.
Leave the first guild. Create two new.

But how can anyone prove that they have done that?
Maybe the guild had some issues, and thus decided to split up, and in order to “work things out” they decided to have a bit of warring between each other.
Said warring ended up with the guilds figuring out that maybe being together wasn’t so bad after all, and rebuild the original guild.
Should they be banned for that?
I know it sound a bit far fetched but no one can really claim that they would be lying, and thus ArenaNet can’t really ban them for anything.

Anet hates GvG. The only reason the OS area exists is because of the massive furor released by that dev griefing the GvG. They think it hurts their precious failed sPvP.
Don’t expect open world GvG to ever happen.

Fair enough, but first they’d have to discover it. And I doubt it would be very easily discovered.
And then you have to separate it from guilds not doing that to just get the rewards, but to have a inter-guild competition. Because I’m sure guilds won’t tell the temp one to just stand there and look pretty. And they’ll probably have the other guild win some to not make it look too one sided.
How do you separate out just purely bad players from people trying to game the system?
Then there’s the map chat. Most players don’t want to see the smack talk. It’s own arena would solve that problem. Plus, it would run smoother and the maps would be able to be better suited for GvG.
And having the arenas means they have different types of GvG. Maybe a capture the flag or cap all the places for X time. Over just who can have the most kills if they had it in the open world.
I can picture it now, somebody who’s guild leader accepts a guild war invitation and they don’t noticed. They’re busy killing some world boss, say Shaman, and don’t notice the red tag of an enemy guild coming up behind them. That enemy guild player picks up god knows how many stacks of might from the zerg of non warring players killing the Shaman, and then one shots the other player in the back, and proceeds to tea bag them and tell them to “git gud”.
Sounds like a blast… not.
Yeah, guys! Allowing pvp in DEAD/ABONDONED/DESERTED pve maps is absolutely ridiculous.
Lol at all the ppl on here shooting down ideas to populate/make interesting, maps they NEVER go to anyways. If you bump into 3 or more ppl at any given time on a pve map that doesn’t have a champ train or 5-10 minute world boss, its a miracle.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Never going to happen. When I’m playing in PvE I know I’m in an environment that encourages co-op play among all players. The last thing I would want is to be jumped by players because someone in my guild decided it would be fun to declare war on another guild.
If I want to worry about my fellow player attacking me, I’ll go play WvW. That choice is in my hands, not someone else’s. Just add a GvG in the PvP area and that’ll keep it out of everyone else’s hair.

Right, so flip that on the other side. If I go to a map I wouldn’t go to and expect to be alone . . . and wind up ganked by the three people who are in the other guild? Why wouldn’t I be kittened off about it?
I don’t want open world PvP even if it’s organized as GvG only.
Beyond that, if the devs wanted open world PvP we’d have heard it was an option early on. If they want GvG they’ll come up with something which won’t involve the open world. (I’m actually expecting they’ll make a GvG somewhere coming up if there’s still clamoring for it when they enter the part of the Living Story where they look at features to add.)
“Right, so flip that on the other side. If I go to a map I wouldn’t go to and expect to be alone . . . and wind up ganked by the three people who are in the other guild? Why wouldn’t I be kittened off about it?”
Why would you buy an MMOrpg if you want to play alone?

Probably because its part of the game. Having pvp an almost seperate game within the game, which is what Anet has done (or at least has tried to do), has given Anet way more work than they can handle. Hence the fail of pvp and wvw.

probably a negligible detail OP chose to omit: Tera offers this feature ONLY on the few dedicated open PvP servers and you actively choose to play there from the very beginning of your character to cap.
Tera is not GW2.
exactly why not, if you want open world GvG go play tera on a open PvP server, no need to ruin it for ppl who don’t want to see any mention on PvP at all in a PvE open world.
I don’t see how Open world GvG would ruin GW2. So Tera is the only game which is supposed to have Open world GvG and no other games?
I can get a legendary drop in an hour or two in Diablo 3. I want this feature in GW2.

No, they proved with Guild Wars that the PvP and PvE split works just fine. Awesome even. What they need to to do is get back to their roots, throw up a big middle finger to people asking for more mainstream MMO features, and turn this in to the great game it could be.

2 of the 3 game modes of GW2 allow PvP, WvW and The Mists. There are plenty of opportunities for those that want to fight other players right there. For those of us that don’t want to see it and don’t want to see chat channels tarnished with PvP banter there is PvE. I choose to keep it that way. Thank you.

It’s not part of the game, you’re trying to sell me on it needing to be part of the game. I can go to WvW and play rather close to what you’re suggesting, and with much more satisfaction since people not on my guild can come help me if I am in over my head.
For the last time: I am not interested in a game where I would have to constantly look over a shoulder for someone coming after me. I am likewise not interested in trying to make other players who might not want that adhere to it because that’s my personal vision of a perfect game.

Could have fooled me. You and a few others have posted as if you were the owners of this game. Making statements along the lines of you “don’t want pvp in pve maps, period” and “not in your game” (paraphrasing the sentiment, of course). Open world pvp used to be a fact of life for an MMO. Now, instead, we have absolutely dead maps/zones because there’s no interest for players to be there and because pveer’s want their pve left alone. Yes, they like their maps VERY much alone.
Keep in mind, I’m not really interesting in putting pvp gankers in maps. I’m more interested in putting LIFE into these dead zones. Those horrible world events/living story events that Anet seems to keep shoveling out a dime a dozen does NOTHING for the ever returning problem of dead maps/zones.

So i just change my guild tag on the fly, when im low on health?
Not really much of a PVPer myself (yet) but the obvious solution would be that changing guild etc is disabled/not allowed during combat. Stick on a cooldown of a few minutes when leaving combat too and viola – solution!

For people only interested in PvE what good would it do to put a bunch of PvP players in a map and make it more populated? It would only mean you have a bunch of people PvPing all over and not contributing to PvE. It would just be adding noise with no real benefit to PvE. It would be like adding some PvE aspects to The Mists and while you are trying to PvP you see a bunch of PvE players attacking mobs or what ever all over your fight. It would just be noise.

The only way I see open world GvG working is to make it behave like a guild mission. You activate some flag, and in 10 seconds you are entered into the GvG battle. The battle would have to be out of the way as to not interfere with open world events of course. Anyone in the GvG battle can only attack others in the arena so PvE players wouldnt be ganked out of the blue. Once you “tap in” you cant switch guilds or any such nonsense. I’m guessing there would have to be some added textures and borders to make the battleground look more legit and keep non combatants out. There would have to be a GvG OS to control things like a player cap, scoreboard (with kdr omg), a driver tag (wha?!?!), etc. Also a spectator system would be awesome.
This is definitely do able. Will they do it? One can hope.

You also realize paraphrasing me into something I didn’t say outright, making my opinion of “I don’t want it” into “it shouldn’t be there”, is really low right?
My only comment coming close is “the devs made the choice it wouldn’t happen during design”.

W/e. Anet needs to do three things to start putting this game off in the right direction. If it values longevity;
1. Open world PvP (whether they create new servers for this or not, idk)
2. Better, more rewarding rewards/skins from heart vendors/drops from killing mobs in maps. A reason to map to 80 as opposed to cheesing it (aka crafting, switching to your lowbie at the end of a dungeon run and wvwing).
3. Expound on the lore, both the bigger picture as well as zone specific lore. Make it more interesting and engaging. Draw the player in.
Those are just a few ideas outside of fixing their end game.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
I don’t know. ArenaNet developed another game that didn’t have Open World PvP, and it is still viable to this day, after 8 years. It doesn’t have an overly large population now, but it did rather well.
So, I am not sure that they need to implement Open World PvP to ensure their present game’s longevity. I do understand it is something some people might enjoy. Of course, others would not enjoy it, at all.
I didn’t read the comments above. Although this would be cool I would see major farming as a result between guilds if there were a reward. Example would be two guilds alternating winning and losing to get the rewards quick and easy.
I’m confused. You aren’t for “putting pvp gankers in maps” yet you are for open world PvP. The first is always the product of the second. You can’t have one without the other.
Higher level zones are often empty as a side effect of auto-leveling down. Why roam a level 60 zone while the level 10 zone is “easier” to do while you still get similar rewards? They’ve tried to steer the population through living story content into zones not normally roamed. They’ve tried steering the population into areas though land specific achievements in the daily ( ______ veteran/kills/events). What they need to offer a level criteria based achievement. Level 60 vets or events in level 60 zones. Problem is it discriminates against newer characters. Well I guess they could make it true level appropriate vet/kill/event as a criteria.
And don’t we have enough kitten lore as it is? I can’t swing a sword without seeing the history of this world and why such and such is the way it is or why this area is dangerous now.

How are you confused? Getting open world pvp is only a part of the bigger picture. Meaning, my issue isn’t solely having to do with open world pvp. Its populating the maps/making leveling more interesting/making the point of playing an MMO more prevalent in GW2.

Again, what benefit to PvE maps would come from populating the maps with people PvPing? It would just add noise and be of no benefit to people that are there for PvE. “Hey glad the map is filled there is this temple event up let’s do it.” “Sorry bro too busy fighting other players for that.”
Populating a PvE map is one thing but if it is populated with PvP then it is nothing but a WvW hybrid and brings no actual quality to those engaged in PvE.
If all that is important to you is a populated map then there is always LA.

There wouldnt be any pve player ganking.
There wouldnt be any GvG arenas in maps that are populated regularly for temples/bosses.

I rather have that instead of…
“Hey guys, lets go kill this boss!”
“Guys?”
“Anyone?”
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
I would love to have some sort of competition between guilds. Then we get politics again like we had in the good ole’ days of Gw: Factions. WvW has no politics really because the guids only control things very briefly and there is no glory in it like owning a city back in factions.

Why? What would be the point? There is no benefit to populating PvE maps with players that are not into PvE aside from more people chatting in /map. If you want that LA is the place for you. As for your example:
“Hey guys, let’s go kill this boss!”
“Guys?”
“Sorry dude we are busy killing each other.”
The end result is the same but with a bunch of people in PvE not interested in PvE.

It wouldn’t be as wide spread as it would be if not tied to the GvG thing but there might be some people just in a guild without really being in the guild that get hit by this.
At least it having a dedicated arena it would only put those who are interested in actively participating in it into actually participating. It has 0% chance of ever disrupting a DE or being in a Living Story map. It would give ANet better controls for switching Guild representation (you can’t while you’re in the arena). It would give ANet the ability to have different types of GvG: traditional PvP, capture the flag, etc.
Now, would I be opposed to say a Living Story that takes place on a 15-25 level map a GvG event where for 2 weeks guilds can go at it for 2 hour match ups? No. Because it wouldn’t be permanent. Or heck, make it a level 40 map running concurrently with a different Living Story update. Since we all know the mid range maps are the most deserted.
But anything permanent should have it’s own arena for it. Then different match up time lengths could be picked. A guild could have a 1 week match up. Or a 2 hour skirmish.

The point is to bring activity to a map, regardless of what that “life” is doing on the map. Ppl that aren’t going to do a temple because they’d rather be pvping wouldn’t be doing the temple regardless.
Attracting players to a map, regardless of what they are doing or their intentions, will indirectly draw more/other players to a map; enhancing the experiencing of being in a world such as Tyria.
The dead maps in GW2 are a major issue for me. Players ganking other players usually draws the attention of said ganked players guild mates, also possibly making being in a guild actually have a use. They may want to stick around for a while to possibly do an event that sprung up/a temple event that started while they were there defending the honor of their guildmate. You never know how a chain of events can unfold. Its little things like open world pvp, better rewards/drops/skins that draw players to maps…
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
