Open world GvG
The point is to bring activity to a map, regardless of what that “life” is doing on the map. Ppl that aren’t going to do a temple because they’d rather be pvping wouldn’t be doing the temple regardless.
Which is why PvP is not needed in a PvE map. People go to PvE maps for PvE. Adding a bunch of people fighting each other isn’t going to enhance that experience. It will just add a bunch of junk talk to /map.
Adding PvP to PvE maps as a means to populate and enhance the PvE experience isn’t the answer. Anet giving good reason for PvE players to spend time in those maps is. Perhaps a once daily chest hidden in each region with a guaranteed rare would populate maps more.
Having a bunch of people fighting each other in a PvE map might add more ‘life’ but not in a good way and not in a way that benefits PvE players. I mean come on, if adding artificial ‘life’ to a map was important why not have a daily where you have to stand in some map for 10 minutes. Hey it would add ‘life’ because there would be a bunch of people there, right?
PvP is not the answer to populating PvE. It would just add noise.
probably a negligible detail OP chose to omit: Tera offers this feature ONLY on the few dedicated open PvP servers and you actively choose to play there from the very beginning of your character to cap.
Tera is not GW2.
exactly why not, if you want open world GvG go play tera on a open PvP server, no need to ruin it for ppl who don’t want to see any mention on PvP at all in a PvE open world.
I don’t see how Open world GvG would ruin GW2. So Tera is the only game which is supposed to have Open world GvG and no other games?
I can get a legendary drop in an hour or two in Diablo 3. I want this feature in GW2.
Are you seriously going to go ahead and use an A-rpg to prove a point about an MMO? Did you just do that?
What’s the problem with this ? Why are you making limitation that is suit you ?
You can compare brand, you can compare genre, you can compare anything.
If you’d tell give me the feature existed in GW2, Ok … I understand.
You proposed something extending limits to whole MMO genre. Btw Diablo 3 is close to it already.
I extended to online genre with multiplayer elements.Do you seriously think your opinion is prevalent ? Did you just do that ?
If you can’t see how this might be a problem, there’s no need to continue this conversation. Good day, sir.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.

Uh. I’m not in a guild either. Why? Because most of the time, the uselessness outweighs the usefulness (not too mention the fail guild after fail guild gets old). I fully support GvG open world. As I stated before, it may even actually make being in a guilds appealing.

A fail guild is one that does nothing or barely does anything; dungeons, wvw, missions but most of all…chat. I’ve lvl’d enough 80s, all of which had a combination of exotics/ascended gear. I can honestly say 90-95% of that gear, on all toons, was from pugging it. Outside of getting that quick exotic backpack, id rather rep my own one man guild for extra bank space.

Well there are plenty of guilds that don’t fit into your ‘fail guild’ criteria. I suppose you should look around. It isn’t the fault of the the game that you joined ‘x’ guild that spammed /map and then let you down. Joining a good guild is part of the game, shopping around to see what fits your needs. Meeting players along the way in a guild to see if they would make a good fit. Heads up, if they are spamming /map then they just want numbers and don’t care about you.
But hey, since you want GvG PvP in PvE you better find one soon. Wait, never mind GvG in PvE won’t ever happen. Thank goodness.

“Right, so flip that on the other side. If I go to a map I wouldn’t go to and expect to be alone . . . and wind up ganked by the three people who are in the other guild? Why wouldn’t I be kittened off about it?”
Why would you buy an MMOrpg if you want to play alone?
Why would I play an MMOrpg where I would expect to be attacked anywhere at any time?
Probably because its part of the game. Having pvp an almost seperate game within the game, which is what Anet has done (or at least has tried to do), has given Anet way more work than they can handle. Hence the fail of pvp and wvw.
No, they proved with Guild Wars that the PvP and PvE split works just fine. Awesome even. What they need to to do is get back to their roots, throw up a big middle finger to people asking for more mainstream MMO features, and turn this in to the great game it could be.
Clearly its on the road to being the greatest MMO ever. Tell me, when’s the last time you’ve cruised the pve maps? How many ppl have you stumbled into on your journey? One word; CASUAL.
Not even close! It’s on the way to becoming just another clone in a long line of clones if they don’t stop listening to the players who keep saying “this other game has this feature, why can’t it be in this game”.
OPen worl GvG is absolutely one of the WORST ideas anyone has suggested for this game. It would cause far more problems then it would be worth, and that IF it could even be added without screwing up so many other elements. If/when they add guild halls, that is when they can add GvG. With the wildly different guild sizes, what you can expect is 2x 5 man teams fighting it out in a guild hall. There is no workable way to have entire guild fighting it out in massive battles in the open world so don’t even bother thinking about it. Open world PvP has no place in this game and the players who keep asking for it are a very small minority who keep trying to turn this game in to some weird clone of some other game that they should just go play instead.
What is the point of populating a zone with players more interested in attacking each other to players looking for help in zone events?
So what if a map is “empty” of players. It’s not like the map gets lonely. As I said previously, one of the problems with higher level zones is that players with level 80 characters have an easier time in lower level zones than spending time in higher level ones. That’s it’s easier to level in lower level zones than level in zones in the same level range.
And you think turning the higher levels into warzones will drive these players into those areas to do more PvE? By making those areas more dangerous to tromp around in?
Good luck with that.
RIP City of Heroes

Clearly not. Anet will do what most doomed MMO’s do these days and listen to their casual player base. And when those casual players come and go and the game bombs there will be no hardcore player base left to keep them afloat.
I’m waiting for the day GW2 unveils there new xpac, complete with a new furry cuddly race for those cutesie casuals

Lol at all the ppl on here shooting down ideas to populate/make interesting, maps they NEVER go to anyways. If you bump into 3 or more ppl at any given time on a pve map that doesn’t have a champ train or 5-10 minute world boss, its a miracle.
This ^^ is true in all servers even on High populated ones
No thanks.I don’t want such thing to be implimented in the game.GvsG is a pvp activity as such it’s place is either in WvW bordeland or in the sPvP.
What i like in GW2 is that there aren’t any PvP servers and there isn’t any Open World PvP.
Right now there are 3 game modes which don’t interact with each other: PvE/PvP/WvW i want them to stay this way.If i want to do some Guild PvP activity then it should never be put in the PvE enviroment.
If and when anet adds guild halls, which if they do may come waaay down the line, open world gvg would be a quick fix.
Like I said previously, there would be no interference between open world gvg and pve if there were boundaries and some kind of gvg arena OS.
The pros:
People no longer taking up spots in wvw
Wvw no longer interfering with gvg (other players, orb bonus, sigil stacks)
New and dynamic gvg arenas
Easy (ish) to implement
Spectators!
The cons:
I really dont see any. The arena would not interfere with anything pve.

And there are some of us who don’t mind the maps being on the empty side. It lets us fight things and know that it’s OUR skill that let us win. That we weren’t just carried to victory by whomever else was there.
I soloed about 85%-90% of the PvE map. I soloed a vast majority of the mid level zones as well as the high level zones, including Cursed Shore. I only had to get help for 2 skill points and a vista in Cursed Shore. I did buddy up for the various personal story quests that went into Cursed Shore so some of them were done in parties as we worked our way to and through Arah.
And that’s a pretty powerful feeling. That you can solo an area for the most part.
That being said, there could be things done to increase the ventures into the world. GvG is not one of them.
While it might bring the guilds out to play, it will make the more pure PvE’ers run and hide in other games. Because they don’t want to see it, they don’t want to see a group of players within sight of them when they’re struggling with a skill point and could use a hand. They don’t want to have to leave an otherwise perfect guild because they do not wish to PvP at all but the guild does.
They don’t want to see the smack talk in the chat or the goading if a guild declines a war when they’re in Lion’s Arch.
People trying to take Teq down won’t want it in Sparkfly Fen because you already have to be there an hour early on the servers that reliably do it. GvG will only just make that worse. Not to mention have fun during world bosses where there are people in the opposing guild in melee range of the boss (since they’ll be able to be hit by the opposing guild’s ranged AoE attacks, not to mention the AoE melee attacks).
The only way to actually implement GvG with the least amount of issues is to have it be it’s own separate area. Not out in the open world.
lol its so pointless to try to explain your point to people who are unwilling to listen.
oh well.
hopefully anet will make guild halls soon.

LoL You don’t see how open world GvG can be a problem but you clearly see the problem of legendary drop. Look closer at you own proposal and good day.
I have no problem with GvG being in the game…I only have a problem with open world.
If open world PvP of any kind was introduced in the game, I’m relatively sure that not only I would leave the game, but most of my guild would as well.

In GW1, Guild Halls where primarily arenas, that was what they where created for in the first place. Creating guild halls and arenas would be overkill. Guild halls allowed guilds to fight each other with an even amount of players. They also allowed players in the same guild to duel singly and in parties. If they do the same in GW2 it would be the best option for everyone, but there will always be the “open world” bit that will insist that they just have to be able to play right on top of everyone else and annoy them to have fun.

oh there are plenty, i just never participate in them.

i never said the entire GW2 game, i said the PvE open world.
i choose not to play PvP and i love to stay as far away as possible from it, the reason why it works in other games is because they have dedicated PvP servers, GW2 doesn’t.the only way you will ever see this is when Anet decides to add PvP servers, till then you can hold your breath for a long time.
I’m not sure you read my post. GvG will be for the guilds in active Guild War. Players that aren’t in a Guild War won’t be affected. If you don’t want to be in a Guild War, then you don’t. GW2 don’t need PvP servers for Open world GvG, as the Guild War is optional and not forced upon you as a player.
ok, then how do you prevent a GvG from ruining my end of the game’s enjoyment, how do you make sure i don’t see them, how do you make sure they don’t bother me, how do you make sure they don’t kill events, etc…
you’re only thinking about one side, think about the other side to for a change.Read my posts above and you’ll know the answer. so to sum it up, your whole idea is a troll attempt to get under ppl’s skin.
next time you have an idea at least come up with some good arguments, the way you act right now is really immature and shows weakness in the idea it self.

I gave a few arguments to why it would work, but sadly this forum is hard to convince. The thing here, people who disagree don’t want it at all, they are 100% against it, they don’t want it to work, they only bash it and call out all the problems it would bring without thinking out a possible solution. Even if i give a solution to them they bring forth the next problem and then the next and the next and at the end of the day they don’t even want the feature in the game even if it would work.
I won’t argue with people who have no constructive criticism or feedback.
I won’t argue with people who have no constructive criticism or feedback.
I’m not against GvG being an option. Heck I might even join in this time as opposed to only some skirmishes last time.
But not in the open world. And not with a “guild declares war on guild” mechanic. Even laying aside how much I don’t personally want it, it’s too easy to mess with it for profit if there’s rewards and very little impetus to do it if there aren’t any when it could just be better to go fully separate GvG instead.
Seriously. People here on the forums want GvG. Just not open world.
Seriously. People here on the forums want GvG. Just not open world.
Exactly. Hopefully when they implement their ladder system for pvp we will get some GvG in there, it’s about time PVP ranks/leaderboards focused on teams (guilds?) and not individual players, it’s a team game after all.
As for the idea of Open World GvG it causes so so many problems like imbalance between guild members, a huge guild could just start a war with smaller ones and win the rewards. Also, there are loads of players that CLEARLY don’t want to participate in any form of PVP, they avoid WvW and sPVP for a reason, and now you want to force them to PVP with others, and even worse while they are out in the world?
The game itself is build around cooperation between players, not fighting each other (in PVE), they’ve already removed certain barriers that existed in other games like mob tagging.
As for the argument that GvG will somehow “populate” empty zones, I don’t see how, everyone participating in this “war” will just go near a city, Gendaran Fields or Bloodtide Coast are great for this, in order to fight close to the cities (and have an escape route). It won’t affect empty zones the least bit.
I have to say, there are many, MANY problems with open world GvG. Firstly, after a month or so, GvG will be sequestered to just a few small areas like everything else, so there goes the whole ‘lively world’ boost to it. Second, look at the problems that could arise. Oh, I’m in a WvW guild that one day decided to have a GvG battle with someone. And since like most WvW guilds, I’m not required to rep outside WvW. Suddenly, some guy’s murdering me over and over when I’m trying to gather mats because I happen to be part of a guild that started a battle without me knowing! Or, maybe we have the ‘have to be repping to fight’ rule. Hello system abuse! Anet puts that patch to prevent switching. What’s that, Dungeonning guild? I miss out on the weekly Arah run because I’m not allowed to rep during! No, PvP guild! Why can’t I tourney with you? Because I’m stuck repping a guild for the GvG battle!
Thing is, with the multi guild system, Open World GvG just isn’t a possibility. It could be set aside in another area, like a Mists location for large guild battles that prevent you from switching guilds while within them, but Open World would be nothing but problems. There’s virtually no way this would work out without a lot of broken mechanics, patches that make Scarlet Briar seem popular by comparison or just trading blows in some forgotten corner of a map.
I’ve played gw1 plenty. I agree that guild halls would definitely be the way to go for GvG. Open world GvG, behaving like a guild mission, could technically work, but wouldnt be optimal in the slightest.
I opt to wait for guild halls. If and when.
probably a negligible detail OP chose to omit: Tera offers this feature ONLY on the few dedicated open PvP servers and you actively choose to play there from the very beginning of your character to cap.
Tera is not GW2.
Exactly. So why should open world GvG (a feature from Tera) be in gw2 then?
Not agreeing/disagreeing with your suggestion btw, just questioning your argument.

One of my best memories in an MMO was the crazy messed up implementation of GVG in SWG. SOOO much fun, although really badly put together. I don’t see why anyone would have a problem with this, your PVE guilds obviously wouldn’t partake, and many will make guilds strictly for this purpose. Add a timer to switching guilds when at war with another guild. Both guilds have to accept the war of course. Hardly see how this would become a problem. GVG will have tons of griefing yes, but who cares? Don’t join a “war” guild if you don’t want to participate.

The problem is EXISTING guilds will want to partake in the wars. A 500 member PvE guild is not going to have all 500 members want to take part in the war.
And NONE of us are saying that we don’t want GvG. We just don’t want OPEN WORLD GvG. Several of us have given suggestions on how to implement GvG that is not open world. That would be better implemented and better controlled. And therefore more fun.
Separate arena for it makes it so that guilds don’t have to poll all of their members and send out mass mails to their members to alert them that at X time and Y date they will be entering a war and to unrepresent before then to not participate.
How many mails can you send out before you’re frozen from sending mail?
And ANet has a stance of being anti-grief so they aren’t likely to implement something that’s going to grief people. Especially those not taking part. Because those people would be the true victims. Group is nearby a person doing a skill point and struggling. Instead of stopping to help the person with the skill point, they continue their little GvG battle despite the player saying in map chat that they need help. Because who really truly pays attention to map chat in the middle of a fight? Or would risk typing something out when their opponent probably isn’t?
