I hope you didn’t actually buy all those keys from the cash shop. There are children, cold and starving, living on a street near your home. That cash would have went a long way in their frayed, worn pockets.

Grats! I’m keen to get some of these skins for a couple of my characters. Might spin the wheel after tax time.

I suppose you have a convenient reason that you get to keep your computer/internet subscription. I guess the starving orphans couldn’t use that money to eat for some reason.

I think having internet access in the U.S.A is a little more plausible a use for money than blowing an excess of $100.00 for a weapon skin that was clearly marketed for people with weak constitutions or gambling addictions (not pinning TC as one of these, but still). At the end of the day, it’s simply TC’s choice and he / she is more than entitled to do whatever he / she pleases.

On a more poignant note, many posts like this are made and they seem to be nothing more than brag posts. Does youtube really need another video of someone shoving their “look at me’s” down people’s throat? What manner of discussion did TC expect? Based on the showman-ship of this act, i think it’s more than fair to be critical of TC’s priorities, as obviously they seem to be a little out of whack, hence the comments about starving children. Sure, people are free to do what they want, but criticism is a tool used by humans just as well as an axe or a chisel. The way i see this is, when posts like this are made, it’s really only natural and just that someone posts criticism to widen the scope. I’d be worried if all the posts in this topic were similar to:

1. Wow, you’re awesome!
2. Can i have some gold?
3. Way to go, you really earned it!
4. Good job, Sally!

Wouldn’t you?

In my opinion though, i think it’s a bit excessive, but it just goes to show how lucrative the business model is. If you’ve got one compulsory and vain player making videos about this subject matter, you’ve got thousands upon thousand of those that do so quietly and just as willingly. GW2 doesn’t really foster much of a competitive environment, so seeing people with these exclusive skins doesn’t really make me jealous or envious because there really is no skill in obtaining them, just grind or RMT. If that fact still drives people, then be my guest.

If the game had more depth, build variety, and didn’t seem to disappoint so many long-time fans, i’d be more inclined to accept this kind of subject matter enthusiastically. As it stands, i just see people like this as a statistic. I don’t like to be viewed as a statistic in the spreadsheet of some rich video game economist somewhere. I personally don’t believe that the game is worthy of blowing that kind of money on it simply because it’s just so shallow and geared towards these enticing micro-transactions which take away a lot of the integrity.

Glad you get something out of blowing that kind of money, someone has to support the design of more hp balloon bosses and “lazy nerf-bat” balancing. As i’ve spent nothing beyond my initial box purchase, it certainly isn’t going to be me at this rate.

Cheers!

I buy socks, underwear, blankets, jackets, gloves, hats, bottled water, toiletries and McDonald’s gift cards to hand out to the homeless, on a regular basis. I canceled my WoW sub and bought GW2 so I could use the subscription money to help more people.

You see, at one time I was homeless myself. I lived in an alley between a music store and a fire department. The music store owner took pity on me and gave me a job. It lifted me out of my state of destitution and put me on the right path. I now help others as often as I can.

Obviously TC wants it to be everyone’s business…given the mentality that this brag topic uses to direct discussion. It’s cut and dry that the money is TC’s to do with as TC chooses, that’s not the issue. The issue is making a topic and video about this simply for no tangible reason other than for vanity or bragging rights. It’d be a completely different thing if TC was using this to draw statistical data, but TC is not. This is 100% a brag topic and you could argue that the discussion is unhealthy for the community.

The point is, what kind of discussion would be expected?

You can do what you want and i’ll criticize what i want. I’m not imposing on your free will and you certainly don’t have to even bat an eyelash at my criticism. People get so narrow and defensive..

Something I posted in another thread that seems to be valid here:

I got 2 Tickets out of $70 worth of keys.
The rest of the stuff I got were pretty much junk taking up my bank space. Not a single useful item or backpack skin.
If I spend real life money, I shouldn’t be playing the RNG with such horrible odds. It is akin to gambling. If you want to use the RNG to help get you guys money, then you should at least help the players a bit more by giving us “loaded keys”. Keys “enchanted” to give us a better chance at getting an item we want.

Enchanted Backpack key (Limits RNG to Backpack items)
Enchanted Kit key (Limits RNG to account bound things like kits or perm bank/merch items)
Enchanted Event key (Limits RNG to limited time items)

Things like that would still have an element of randomness, but still allow us to filter through the piles of junk that we don’t want for a chance at an item we do want. Heck, make those keys cost a bit more. That way I could have spent more gems on other things like Minis or limited skins. It would at least help go a long way to boost confidence in a system that is quickly showing its “money grubbing” roots.
I don’t mind supporting GW2. I just don’t want to feel like I’m getting robbed by a “one armed bandit” every time I do.

XOXO

When I’m eating bread, the beggars in my city will eat crumbs. For every euro I give to the poor, I give a hundred to fun things. And I spend money on poor people quite often …

So don’t imply that OP spending money on gems somehow comes at the cost of people who can’t/won’t work for their own money.

The ironic thing would be if the OP was living in a rich/nice town/community, where they have no homeless, starving people living on the streets XD

On a serious note, you cannot demand that others function in a particular way that you’d like. Heck, as someone who volunteered to teach public school children (public education isn’t very good in our country) every weekend for my entire university stay, I hated people who did charity work for the sole purpose of making themselves feel good. So what if he spends $100 on those keys. For all you know, he must’ve spend $1000 on charity that month alone (the assumption that he’s rich and has his priorities set in order). So instead of using money for his luxury budget, he spent it all on keys without changing his charity budget. Did the other guy even consider this? We’re all not Schindler and that’s ok.

Don’t disturb me, I have a cat in me at the moment.

If you had gained keys via ig methods I would say congrats, however I do not applaud supporting the rng gem store cash grabs. So I’ll sarcastically say thanks, thanks for supporting more rng cash grabs in the gem shop as paying rl cash for these is only serving to guarantee the same type additions in the future. Hopefully the next rng grab will grant ya nadda, so you might experience what some other players have/do and why things like this should not be supported.

Thanks again!

ps (ofc this only applies if rl cash was spent)

Dear A-Net, make a gem-pack that gets a percentage of its sells donated to the poor.
Everyone gets happy.

gz @op.
now, whatcha gonna buy with it? you should at least post pics with the new weapon, the video getting the ticket itself isn’t that interesting in itself for the readers.

for those who don’t know what the ticket can be used for (I didn’t either until I googled):

fortunately not really my taste, luckily I always like the cheap skins over the expensive/hard to obtain ones ;-)

@elbegast: I reported your posts because I think they violate the following definition (as I was highly tempted to argue your very debatable point of view and accusations, I think it does in fact elicit an overly strong reaction):
Do not submit “trolling” posts or threads. We define “trolling” as commenting in a manner intended to elicit overly strong negative and emotional responses for mere shock value, attempting to derail threads, persistently posting off-topic, or engaging in personal attacks on another forum member. Accounts made with the sole intent to “troll” will be terminated.

As this thread went off-topic and didn’t provide a good discussion base to begin with, we are closing it now.
