I for one like it, with or without the dragon, its got a nice dangly tassel and animates an open/close when drawn or stowed.

It also reminds me of the art anet did years ago involving the mesmer with a fan. While I had hopped fora future fan weapon type this is the next best thing too bad not many professions can use a focus.

It was an instant purchase for me. So was the outfit.

The fact it has animations is a nice bonus as well

There is nothing much to say, it is a focus and it is good looking, I don’t want to spend gold in a focus skin but it is a skin I would use for sure.

It’s a beautiful skin, but the price is my single beef with it. 600 gems for a weapon skin is, I feel, overpriced – despite people paying it. It’s 200 gems too expensive, and I feel the same way about every other weapon skin ever sold on the gemstore. 400 is fine. You can buy two for £8.50 at that price. I’d buy the fan if not for the price.

Yes i agree with the price being too high….although i cant really be too critical since i did actually pay the 600 gems for it…

Too bad it has horrible clipping. Take a look at dulfy’s video. Unless you have an Asura, expect to see the 600 Gem skin clipping horribly with your character’s leg.

2: I have not seen this problem on my male sylvari.

Seems females like to crouch more which can cause said clipping issues.

Yup, it’s something to consider when there’s a sale.

I like it, but like other people have said I feel that 600 gems is too expensive.

Especially since I don’t use foci a huge amount. If it was the main weapon for one of my permanent characters maybe I’d feel differently, but I think I’d be more likely to find one of the huge variety of foci in-game that suits them.

The Fan focus is a beautiful skin, and as designed might actually have some re-usability. (decorate it differently).
I think 400gems would have been more appropriate, as it’s an off hand weapon, but meh, if people are willing to pay, then so be it.

I think the cost is in part due to the tassel being something that flex’s when you move and that it’s animated to open/close But I agree it could do better to cost less then 600gems when it souly for an offhand weapon currently only 4 profession can use, most of which mind you don’t have a showoffy animation for the respective skills to make the fan look better.

Though some of ele’s main hand skills do wave the offhand around which supports the fan’s style.

Maybe anet should do these kinds of prices

offhand: 200-400
mainhand: 300-400
twohanded: 500-600

Provided of course the quality of the texture, mesh-design are adequate for the cost they want to charge and/or have a nice tag on like moving parts for animations glow/particles or flexi parts.

They really out to reserve prices of 600-800 for outfits/armorskin-sets as those cover more of the body then any weapon.

I really like this fan (and have bought it) But it would have been nicer to see an appropriate price on it to begin with, as I thought (pre-login price) to be like 400 gems but get in game to buy and find its 600…..

Not having such a massive clipping issue in something we have to buy with a no small amount of gems isn’t exactly being “perfect”. It’s the least ArenaNet should have done.

Still disappointed that it’s not a dagger. I figured out for a fact that it was a focus when it was data mined, but still, I was hoping.
600 gems is too steep a price to way for a skin of a weapon hardly any of my character uses.
Not to mention it did not comes with any particle effects.

It’s not “wrong” at all. The Forgotten Fan was one of the most well-known uniques in GW1.

The fan syncs well with the animation of a dagger focus elementalist. It is beautiful.

I love that skin madly, but as others said, it’s a focus. If I’ll get to have a lot of gold without a better use, I shall consider buying it just to have it.

Historically, Samurais have always used Tessen (bladed fans) as their off-hand weapon.

Tessen were very important to samurais, because they were used to block or parry attacks, as well as numerous other versatile purposes. The razor design itself makes it a very deadly weapon with its sharp edge and wide range, while it can be used like a dagger or war hammer when the fan is closed.

The martial art of using weaponized fans still live on today in the form of Tessenjutsu.

I do hope ANET considers a Fan as a Dagger in the future, because that would be baddass!

It’s a pretty skin, but Foci, like shields suffer from issues like cooldowns or skill makeups that aren’t ideal for me to carry one outside of a handful of specific circumstances. The one class I do regularly carry a focus on already has one I like too much to give up (Mesmer and the Anomaly). So I won’t be buying it for 600 gems just to have it collect dust in my Guard, Ele or Necro’s inventories :/

At 400 gems, I would instantly buy it. 600 is a bit more than I want to spend on something that won’t be seen that well. It’s a shame since I love the GW1 fan skins.

Scythes that look like staves, or staves that look like scythes? Parry dagger shields, sword shaped scepters, fans for daggers, jitte swords, slingshot shortbows and popgun rifles <3, giant butter knives for greatswords, rifle barrels firing shotgun shells and rockes, rocket launchers shooting bullets, Zeus lightning bolt-shaped middle finger (aka the Thaumanova Anomaly’s weapon), whips, rifles shaped like THIS IS MAH BOOMSTICK! etc

I’m rather torn if I should buy this now or later. I have more pressing things to purchase with gems but I do like this skin. . . But I’m not using any focus now but I’ll definitely use it when I do. My only issue is, when will this skin disappear?

Don’t quote me on it, but if it is about to disappear, they’ll likely announce it a week or two in advance, and possibly drop the price.

Beautiful – the first gemstore item I honestly want to buy at some point (I would now but I’m saving gold for a legendary).

i saw it when it was datamined, imediately liked it and was waiting for it to wear on my guardian along with ancestral outfit BUT then i saw video on dulfy with this horrible clipping on human female..

There is no way im gonna drop 600gems on item with such pain for the eye. It`s already enaugh for me that when im wearing Twilight and toggle walk animation my character commits suicide by sticking it in her head but now you want me to cut off my legs too? No way..

Concensus, The skin looks good, the price is too high. Same for me.
I figured it would be a 400 gems skin because its an off hand skin. I was sold when i saw it.

When i saw the 600g price tag. Not so much.

Exactly where I’m at. Makes me consider maybe changing someone so they ‘do’ use a focus. I’ll probably get it for sure if it ever goes on sale just to have the skin around.

Thinking about it, you know what would be about 1.2x cooler than a dragon fan? A feather fan! I’d need it for my mesmer instantly!

Definitely like it. Costs about the same as Anomaly, so instantly bought it.

As a side general comment, it was a really nice idea for a weapon skin for that weapon. They could do a lot of fun things with focus, torches and shields that are non-traditional and fun. If they ever give us a whip, they’ll have to make ‘something’ a chair.
