Largos..How many of you guys love Largos? I know I do! If I had to choose the next playable race I would defiantly choose the Largo race.

Yes, you heard me correctly. I choose Largos over Tengu.. why? I choose the largo race because of their incredibly amazing appearance.

They have beautiful wings and blue skin sort of like a demon or a succubi. Ears sort of like a elf or a dwarf. They are well known assassins and trained undersea fighters. How cool is that? Why just explain these amazing creatures when I can show them off? There is a picture of a very nice largo in attachments.

So, All in all I want to see others opinions about them. I would also like to ask anyone who is willing to answer – >Why are Tengu more anticipated than Largo?< Cause quite honestly, the fact people like the eagles more saddens me.

The tengu are for more customizable then the largos, as well with us knowing almost nothing of the tengu in the lore where as the two times you meet the largos much is revealed about them that further narrows the customizing and lore for them. Bottom line tengu are an open book in many was and much of the ground for them to become playable has been made.

Btw largos are viewed as assassins only, so we only allow the thief class to play them? I know there would be ways around it but to most people they are simply more appealing as npcs.

That is true however I think they could be easily be limited to fighter classes rather than just thief. On the Largo wiki it does say they are assassins and you are right but it also says and I quote,

“Largos are fighters that are trained in killing, often silently, and as such are assassins. They are secretive and do not openly share information – either about them or their techniques – and often work alone. To them, assassination is a way of life rather than a job. In fighting, largos have only been seen to use dual swords or a spear. "

They use swords and such as well. So would people really mind if there was a race that didn’t use magic?

Pretty sure all races of Tyria have people within who can use magic to an extent. That would be a largos choice to not use it. I don’t hate the largos, I think most people like them in fact. Playing them just isn’t as appealing, I love them as npcs and possibly lore around them xD

As for not using magic even if they could, That would be interesting. Personally I wouldn’t mind much, but I don’t know what the community would think about that.

Also brings up interesting questions about quaggans with engineer hobo sacks.

The idea of an underwater starting zone repulses me. The idea of having a breathing mask effectively be my face repulses me. The clipping their big flappy wings would have with all stowed weapons and back equipment, and a lot of shoulder and chest equipment, repulses me.

The Largos may be neat eventually (they’re pretty one-dimensional right now), but I don’t think they’ll ever be a good fit for PCs.

Largos is my favorite as a new playable race- I am not into the appearance so much because I find it pretty cliche but I am intrigued by their Houses and what little we know of their society.
As for them being assassins only I find that kind of unlikely- for all we know the assassin types are the ones that deal mostly with the outside world- I am sure that they have all sorts in their cities.
Or maybe they are like the Drow where all are fighters and anything else is like a secondary discipline.
Maybe they even have mage types that have an order of their own.
I love to speculate how their society might work since it sounds fairly structured to me.
I would also love an underwater zone.

The reason why people think Tengu is most likely the next race is because they were planned originally, they are part of the lore and we have the huge wall that blocks the Dominion of Winds.
I have zero interest in actually playing a Tengu- but I would love to see what is behind the wall.

I imagine this depends on the individual. For me it’s history; they had a saga going during the GW1 days where they were trying to stake out a place in the midst of a Canthan regime that more or less would rather they not have existed. They were greatly overdue for a change in fortune; the situation in GW2 at present is a big step forward, but emerging as a major power/playable race would be an ultimate vindication.

Though yes, they also have an interesting culture and can be pretty (sometimes. I’ll be the first to admit that the art across GW1/2 has been more often miss than hit). And their GW1 BMP weapons were very cool – would love to see that aesthetic come back.

Largos? They’re an intriguing and pretty cool race, but they really just haven’t had as much time to get attached to. Fifteen or so months is a lot shorter than seven and a half years (one more if you count Prophecies, but tengu were really just a minor NPC race then, even if the Avicara tribe did make very formidable opponents).

Just a random PuGgle.

Eagles are cooler. Elven succubi are for people looking to get their cybers on.

People like the Tengu because they’re an awesome race. Not only that, but we remember them from GW1. Largos on the other hand are very restrictive, not as open in lore, and appeal to people who want to have erotic Aion fantasies.

They are horrible.

Their “wings” looks like bad science fiction from the 80’s. We don’t need another burning crusade with demons all around.

I’m glad they have little to none participation in this game (except for that part during the personal quest but we have Thrahearne to hate already)

Why is there so many emo players wanting to be demons?

Besides, like it or not, Tengu are more GW representative than this oversize fish

I really like the largos as an NPC race, but don’t really think they’d work too well as a playable race.

A big part of the largos’s coolness is because of how mysterious and secretive they are, to the point where we don’t even know how they look like since we’ve never seen one without the mask. Problem is… once you make largos playable, you either have to give them a face and get rid of the mask, or rework all head armor in the game around it. Once you can see their faces, their secretive mysterious aura gets diminished a LOT.

On a related note, another big part of their coolness comes from their sets of armor they wear, always dark to contrast with their blue skin and white hair… but would you want to see a largos with a bright pink armor, for example?… you know there are people that would do one (I would)..

Also their culture seems to revolve around being stealth assassins (their whole race motto is “track it, kill it, and bring proof” according to the wiki)… which means they’d fit perfectly the thief class, and maybe the warrior a little bit, but not as much any of the other classes in the game.

Their enviroment is sure to be VERY underwater heavy. While I do believe it would be incredibly cool to have a huge underwater city and new areas to explore, I’d rather them have a heavy revamp of underwater combat before it happens.

As I said, Largos are very cool NPCs, but at the moment I don’t think they’d make good playable. They mostly seem to have one aspect to them, the sinister dark brooding type of character that usually becomes one of the most popular in different media… but I think that a playable character shouldn’t be so extremely tailored to one specific style or mood, but be more customizable to fit all kinds of styles the players would like to use… which is why I think Tengu fits the bill for new playable race much better, also better than my favorite to become new race (the kodan).

That said, if they ever make largos, I’m going to make one dressed like this (in those same colors)..

http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/armour/human/human-light-karma-temple-female.jpg

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Personally Im all for Largos as the next playable race. I understand peoples love of Tengu from GW1. But Im not a fan of humanoid animals myself – I have 9 characters and not a Charr to be seen XD.

In regards to peoples points about Largos being assassins and only suited to being thieves; Norns are considered to be a brutish heavy handed race, however they can be mesmers, eles, etc. And Asuras known for their superior intellect and technology and still be a smashy smash warrior. And any class could “track, kill and bring proof”.

The wings/ fins could be customised size and pattern wise, and I would assume more discrete breathing masks could be “invented” for those who prefer to see more of their creations face.

Also I think having a couple of starting areas that were a high percentage underwater would be a fun idea and open up some new ideas, and could nicely integrate with bubbles or a bubbles champ being bought into the game.

On the whole I think Anet have a really creative team so even with a race and home environment we know little about, could be beautiful, interesting and different to the norm.

Firstly.
A reason tengu is more anticipated is not only that they were in GW1 and really quite intresting, with the possibilty of a lot of customisation etc. It is also because they as the only non playable race already got a big home city (no kodan do not have that) already got at least one of the personal story question in place by being divided into 4 houses AND they were planned as playable for release, but did not make it through the initial release, but they are definitely still on the table I bet.

I really want tengu as first new playable race if they ever do give us more races. BUT. I also like largos and would definitely play one of them, I expect and want tengu more as a first, but I would be sorta ok with largos too, but then tengu had to be up next.

Largos are awful. I hope they don’t become a playable race, and if they do, I’ll hunt them down in WvW and slaughter them.
No offense to the people who like them—I just don’t. Here’s why.
They just look like humans with elf ears, fairy wings, and bondage gear. It’s like someone decided to take all the things that 14-year-old emo kids like, and glue them together. Dark elves + assassins + angst + fairies + hawt bodies= horray!

The concept of a deep sea race whose honor is based on their feats as a killer is a very cool one—it had a lot of potential. However, that race would look nothing like the Largos. Their manta-ray fins would attach all the way down their spine, and look like RAY FINS, not FAIRY WINGS. Also, they certainly wouldn’t have the anatomy of human fashion models—for a race that lives deep in the seas, that crosses the line into ridiculous. Largos need to be far more alien. Just look at other water races—krait, quaggan, hylek. They aren’t remotely human looking. For me to take the Largos seriously, they would have to be similar.

I wouldn’t be against the Largos as a playable race, but there’s several strong reasons as to why I don’t think they will be.

1. A large part of the appeal of the Largos comes from their mystique; the fact that they are secretive, reclusive, and that we know so little about them. Once they become a playable race, this mystique will disappear. We’ll know how their society is structured, why most Largos seem to go around assassinating people, and what they look like beneath their masks. It’s hard to think of Largos as cool, grim assassins anymore once you’ve seen a couple strolling down Lion’s Arch or Divinity’s Reach, wielding Bifrost or shooting rainbow ponies.

2. Largos are an aquatic race. This means that they’d have an underwater capital, and their starting zone would most likely be mostly or completely aquatic. Personally I like underwater combat, but the vast majority of players seem to loathe it with a passion. Moreover, from a lore perspective, it would not make much sense to suddenly see hundreds of Largos just wandering around on land, anymore than it would to see Quaggans suddenly wandering around in places like Fireheart Rise.

3. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Largos wings would be a clipping nightmare for the armor artists. They already have enough problems with Charr tails, and those only have a single point of contact with the body frame. Can you imagine trying to design armor for a race that has two huge wings sprouting from their back, clipping with armor, weapons and backpieces?

hehe
I see your points but I don’t personally agree with any of them

1. This is actually a plus for me- I would love to find out more about their culture.

We already suspect that they are not all assassin types and I would pay money to see a Largos couple walk down the street with a bifrost and a dreamer

2 Again a plus- an underwater city would be amazing.
we do know that they come on land though so they are more amphibian than aquatic.

Seeing Largos around on maps would be no more weird than seeing Charrs swimming around underwater.
Perfect opportunity to overhaul underwater combat

3. We currently have winged back pieces and I haven’t seen any one complain about those.
It might cause problems but given how humanoid they are and seeing that those races have the least clipping issues in the game – It might not be as bad as you think.

most back pieces would be unusable though but having fins- that I assume will be customized at creation, more than makes up for that

So, All in all I want to see others opinions about them. I would also like to ask anyone who is willing to answer – >Why are Tengu more anticipated than Largo?< Cause quite honestly, the fact people like the eagles more saddens me.

Speak for yourself. Guild Wars 1 veterans tend to adore the Tengu; they are one of the series’ longest-standing npc’s which included numerous enemy types and quite a few allies. There was an entire free update arc at the end of GW1 which focused on rescuing the Tengu from the xenophobic Canthans, as well as an optimal mission pack which you could buy to see the end of a great historic war between Canthans and Tengu from the eyes of the man who ended it. That lends them FAR more weight as a race that deserves inclusion – and it’s insulting to even conceive of newer races getting in before them. Especially the Norn. I was infuriated when a race of generic giant humans with rarely-used shapeshifting powers were made playable before the Tengu.

The Largos are cool, but they do not, as far as we know, have the credentials required of a playable race. We know nothing of their numbers. We don’t know what their central city is like, or if they even have one. They haven’t shown any visual or thematic variety (though they certainly could have just as much as the Tengu if Anet chose to make it so). But, even if they are a worthy race, the Largos are not as deserving of conclusion as the Tengu. And the fact that people want an unknown race of winged humans more than them saddens me.

As a longtime GW1 vet, I would much rather see the Largos introduced as a playable race than the Tengu. I was somewhat fond of Talon Silverwing, but not enough to choose Tengu over Largos.

Still, since the Devs have already put so much work into the Tengu, I expect (if we get another race, anytime soon) that will be the one released.

I don’t know what they’ve done (lore-wise) with the Djinn, but I think it’d be a cool race to have in the game. Very different than anything you’ll see in other MMOs. A Ruby Djinn elementalist would be awesome.

The largos need to have several major design issues addressed before I could take them seriously as a potential playable race.

Largos are my favorite race addition. I think everything about them is intriguing and that they have the most to offer in the way of variety. An underwater capitol city that functions differently based on whichever house currently holds the most influence? On top of their unique skills, variety of magic, weapons, and physically sprouting wings under water? There is just so much there that would add much needed spice to the game.

Its fun to kid, but we all know that Quaggan and Skritt were never conceptualized to be player races. They are victims by design. The Kodan aren’t exactly exciting, and barely have individual personalities; even listening to one talk for long enough could lull you to sleep. And the Tengu would just be another beast race that would use the same armor and weapons we have now, have the same clipping and stretching issues as the Charr.

Largos are the way to go. But if we get a new race it will probably be Tengu. Everyone wants a beast race. Just like everyone wanted Charr and they were hyped before launch. And now less than 10% of the entire games population uses them.

Playing as a Djinn would be really silly. Just not sentient enough (if free spirited).

Largos are constrained (currently) by profession archetypes in a way no other race was. We’ve seen hunters but they all have the assassin flavor to them. That could change of course.

One big reason people love the Tengu are their history in GW1, especially in the end during Winds of Change.

People who prefer the GW1 art style are out of luck. They didn’t change lore-wise, they just look different in GW2.

I’m Mango. Fight on!

I would love to see the Largos as a race, but there are some big limitations on them that people have mentioned above.

Also, Largos is both singular and plural. There is no ‘Largo’ race.
