Just an assumption, pure speculation so take my opinion for what it is..an opinion

The release of GW2 Heart of Thorn was few months after the release of the first Final Fantasy XIV major expansion : Heavensward in June 2015; now the 2nd major expansion is coming out this year , same month exactly 2 years after first expansion : June 2017 l the release date of “Stormblood”.
I believe that Anet will follow the same production cycle and will release GW2 2nd expansion, later this year October 2017.

One thing though to remember…no announcement yet and that’s quite worrying , we know it’s coming and an an announcement at this point would make sense.

“Stormblood” was announced October last year, that’s 8 months before release. GW2 Heart of Thorn was announced on Jan 2015 and released Oct 2015, again a 8 months difference.

Now what to expect?

A) A surprise announcement within 1 month?
-Knowing how @Mike operates, with caution and care, it’s rather unlikely that this would happen

B) There is really no 2017 expected release for GW2 2nd expansion and that would be sad to say the least.

What are your thoughts?

Why would the expansion cycle of a different game impact when we get our second expansion? And no, its not worrying that we haven’t had an announcement yet, we are still in the middle of LWS3. Expect an announcement when LWS3 finishes at the earliest, and then expect the second expac within 6 months of that announcement, if not within 3-4 months.

If anet doesnt show up at any of the future pax events than start worrying.

Im hopeing it is early/mid 2018 for a release/announcement gives them a good amount of time to make something special/polished.

Im not expecting an announcement this year and will be pretty dissapointed if they do. Would like to see a quick release after announcing an expansion also instead of a long content drought and no news for ages.

Hopefully this time they’ll release it when they have a good amount of content ready and it’s 100% complete, and not when it’s half done like HoT was.

The next expansion will likely be the opposite of HoT, featuring smaller flatter maps, but more of them. I wouldn’t be surprised if it offers a similar amount of content, however, season 4 will likely be ready to go at any time. Ideally, season 4 should start within 3 months of launch, otherwise they’ll fail to hook the launch wave.

My thoughts are you’re trying to draw conclusions from too few data points. However, Mike O’Brien did say that this time they wanted to have a shorter time between the announcement and the release, though I don’t remember where I saw it.

Which means your calculation is probably off anyway.

Going off the Guild Wars 1 release schedule when Mike O’Brien was the creative lead there, I’d assume a 2-3 month window between announcement and release.
