One thing I notice is that higher tier mats and recipes have a slower “crafting bar” progression. I get that, at least from what I see, that because those mats are most likely valuable and thus the slower progression means that the player has longer time to think and possibly cancel the action.

But I feel like it’s wasted on say, refining ore to ingot or wood to planks. Like I have say, 8000 Mithril Ores being turned into Ingots. Now it’s fine to alt tab but it’s still time being burned. Not to mention that the speed of refining lower tier mats are much faster. So maybe give an option to make refining really fast, or at least improve the speed of T5 mats refinement?

It’s a design decision, not a “safety net”. Crafting taking time is done so that it takes time to craft.

Fulgurite is even worse. It’s one of those silly ‘set it and go AFK things’.

I don’t think they’ve ever actually said but it’s probably a design decision. One, to make things more valuable if someone has to actually stand there and craft rather than pushing a button and crafting all in one second. Two, because of immersion. It makes more sense for crafting to take time and for high level items to take more time than low level items. So, if it’s a design decision they’re going to need a compelling reason why they should put in the ability to instantaneous craft.

Using immersion is worse than saying “because we felt like it” -_-

There is too much that doesn’t make sense for that excuse. For example all the cloth we use are pieced together from scraps. Same with the leather. How does a greatsword fit in a mosquito? Who is the person running around the world stuffing gemstones into trees?

That was one possible theory. Assuming it’s a design decision, which I think is likely, what are your theories as to why ANet designed crafting so it’s not instantaneous or why there’s a difference is crafting speed depending on the mat tier level?

Effortless to extend the life of your game. Increasing the speed as your crafting level goes further away from the recipe creates plausible deniability.

Also … at least it doesn’t take 3 hours.

It’s just another one of the artificial time sinks that plagues this genre, and it sucks.

I agree with the option.

As far as I can understand expensive materials may take time to cancel, when you’re doing just mats refining, or things like fulgurite, that you usually set for a big amount, it should go faster.

I can understand a design choice in making ascended mats like deldrimor or damask time gated (even if that annoys me), but I truly can’t understand other things being “bore gated”. And all that immersion argument is pure nonsense. There’s no change in in-game value when you put things “bore gated”, so players are just wasting their time.

Or, as Khisanth said, I’ll set 250 fulgurite, and go brew some fine tea. Do you want some ?

In the last couple of weeks, I salvaged more than 100k bloodstone-warped hides and unstable hides/rags/metal chunks and refined all the common mats i got out of them.

As this can get a bit boring, I started timing, how long it takes to refine 1k each and I didnt see a difference in time needed between the different tiers of mats.

Also I think I remember at least some ascended level mat being fast. Can’t think of it in my head atm, was it Vision Crystal?
