Q:

What exactly is the gameplay difference between the newer orange/red circles that are filled in and the legacy red rings?

My guess is that the filled in ones represent single damage attacks (the occur only once at that point), and the red rings are condition fields or damage over time.

But if that’s true, it seems weird that the launch content really had no single damage attacks and is mostly DoTs?

A:

Its just newer bosses that use it. I think its to make the rings more noticeable, because a lot of the new bosses have one-shot kill attacks, so it wouldn’t be exactly fair having a one-shot kill AOE marked only by that thin red ring, which is obscured and almost invisible if anyone uses an attack that has a particle effect or explosion effect.

For example, Tequatl The Sunless has the thinner red rings for his attacks, and I can just sit there and tank it all day, because they’re not one-shot kill attacks. But things like the Queen’s Gauntlet bosses all use the orange circles, because they all use one-shot kill attacks.

There is no difference gameplay wise. The orange ones are redesigned AoE Circles for better visibility. The old red “outlines” are barely visible at some point, so they redesigned them on new or updated encounters (like Jungle Worm in Caledon Forest).

The new rings are much better for colourblind people like me. Now I can actually see where Liadris, Bloomhungers and wurms AoEs land and actually be able to react to them in time without having to look at my characters feet all the time.

Yeah, I am colourblind as well, and I really appreciate the new circles.

Hmm, I wonder why they didn’t just flat out replace the old red rings then?

Good question. Maybe they have no time for every single encounter in the game and do it on a “we have to change this boss now so we change the circles now too” basis?

They fixed teqs burn achieve(bugging teq in the process.) dont think they’ve changed the rings though.

So not sure thats it XD.

I do much prefer the orange circles as well. And I hope they eventually update all bosses etc with these circles.

Hopefully, it means we can get more complex telegraphs as well.

I telegraphed this to you.
y = y(w,v), f(w)?y=?x, ?g(w)?x=?y. x = x(w,v)
I hope it’s complex enough.

This.

I have a few colorblind friends, the gradient style AoE circle is much easier to see.

For the toast!

Because that would be too cluttered, visually.

They are trying to use the new rings in places where you REALLY need to know to move away. They haven’t taken the time to go back over all the existing content and make that determination yet.

You forgot to perform DoT, which would involve partial differential calculus. And with complex telegraphs you forgot complex numbers.
