Orr Temples
I don’t know. I’ve had the game since release and I was on a dead server. I could never do Orr anything. Now I’ve done all the Orr content. I love megaserver.
The capture events are required to open traits. With Mega-servers, they are almost always open, with people defending them, and the capture events hardly ever happen.
This is what people say, although in my experience, I’ve done q few capture events since April 15th.

Capture events also provide the largest single event source of Dragonite Ore in the game so without the events, that source has effectively dried up.
The Trait issue is less of a problem as they can be obtained by another method (gold & skill points), but it should be a concern that it is quite difficult now to actually EARN many of the Grandmaster Traits (including most of the new XIII ones).
I think Anet didn’t properly consider how resourceful a nicely populated (Mega)server of player would be in holding Temples 24/7 and they need to ramp up the difficulty of the Defend the Temple events so they will eventually HAVE to fail and allow for a restart of the capture events.

Quite a few, but nowhere near what I could do before MegaServer. Lyssa especially, though I really didn’t bother with it before the trait unlock and once I’ve unlocked it on all my characters I will stop bothering again. (3/4 characters that I play have it now.)

There was an equal problem with many players on low population servers that could not get Dragonite ore because the events where constantly contested. Or do any of the high level content.
Joining a guild is an option but even so you got to go thru the pain of setting up massive events.
I don’t know why people are whining, there are 3 zones in Orr, if they where running events with their guilds already they can scout all 3 zones to find out which events are starting.

at least ppl on low population servers always had a definite choice of checking a timer to see which temple on which server is running and then guest on it.
With megaserver, it’s just pure luck.

I sympathize with people from low population servers; however, what some people from low population servers haven’t noticed yet is that the megaserver system put every player (from low, medium and high population servers) in a disadvantage:
1)You can’t see from other maps whether a temple is contested or not because of always contested WPs. Therefore you always have to zone into the specific Orr map to check the temple status. Basically, this leads you to babysitting specific temples or giving up on them completely. Furthermore, because of contested WPs the players can’t coordinate a full temple run since they can’t see the temple status on Cursed Shore from Malchor’s Leap and there is a high chance that you’ll end up in different overflows.
2) The temples are almost always open because of the increased number of players. Players more often do the defense events which is a problem because you not just get more but also more meaningful loot from doing the attack event. Also, the attack event is required for some of the new grandmaster traits that people failed to realize in game, let alone the griefers who deliberately defended temples to block people from aquiring their new traits. And don’t tell me that you could just try to communicate with these people and they would stop doing the defense. NO. Believe it or not, it doesn’t work always even if you explain them why they should stop. They either don’t pay attention to their surrounding or they are doing it deliberately.
3) Insane number of players are participating in these events now completely trivializing the event or in the case of the Temple of Grenth scaling it up to unproportionate difficulties (e.g. one shotting shades).
I just leave this here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqVHpyu72Is
The video shows what a complete mess a temple event is with the megaserver. The player who recorded the video can hardly see anything on his screen from the fight. It also shows how certain mechanics of the fight are completely unnoticed by him (he is lvl 76 and I guess he has never done this event before): that he should turn away from the priestess at certain times.
4) DCing from a temple event occurs more frequently and when you log back to the map you realize that you are in a different overflow where the event is not active or you manage to log back to the same map to see the event finished because everything dies so fast.
5) The statues are a completely useless mechanic now. They were indicators of temple status and obstacles to overcome. However, the megaserver can’t handle overarching mechanics like the statues whose effect crossed map boundaries.
The issues with the orrian temples really show how the megaserver is in conflict with the original design of temple events and I dare say with dynamic events in general.
I play on Piken Square. Before the megaservers I could do temple events more frequently. People from low population servers could at least guest to other servers and do events there. It wasn’t a perfect system I agree but at least you had a plan B, a choice. I don’t have a choice now, I can’t choose an overflow.

I try to unlock my Grandmaster Trait XIII at Lyssa’s Temple for about two weeks. It’s always open. And I could do the other temples just by accident, also Grenth’s Temple was done by me but didn’t get the Trait. This sucks. You should do those unlocking stuff with things I can trigger, not by server time or things other people are involved. Don’t know that they were thinking.

Equal problem? People were guesting on low pop servers like Vabbi to do temples by themselves instead of roleplaying zerglings.

You can complete the traits by doing the defend event and killing the mentioned boss (as in, don’t have to be the full-blown assault event chain).
“You can complete the traits by doing the defend event and killing the mentioned boss (as in, don’t have to be the full-blown assault event chain).”
In the case of the Temple of Lyssa this is not true. You have to defeat the corrupted high priestess of Lyssa for the trait who only spawns during the attack event.
After unlocking the traits i wanted, im more annoyed about the loss of dragonite ore income. Used to be able to do at least 2 temples in a 2 hours long daily playtime, and then something else, usually JPs or the actual daily archivements. Just looking at the map, see whats contested, map there, hang out there (preferably gathering ancient wood and ori ore) while waiting for the assault events or their pre events to pop up. Do the temple, look at the other map (coming and going between Malchor and Cursed), one or the other from the 4 was always ready. Then finish the day with a nice meta-chain completion in the Harathi Hinterlands because the Ulgoth chain from beginning to end was the best. Was.
