Orr is a chore
I’m looking forward for implementation of megaserver system to all maps. Orr will be a “living” zone again. It’s now deserted without any people doing events. Straits of devastation and malchor’s leap has always been deserted though… (Waypoints are always contested, noone does events(except temple) etc.) Megaserver system is only way to prevent players to feel “lonely”. I was feeling like I’m the only living being on the map. (Like a post apocalyptic movie : I’m legend)
You should have played in Orr before they drastically reduced the enemy population. You run away from one mob, and aggro another. There were very few safe places.
It was great! I say – bring back the high density!
No thanks. It was pretty awful back then. Now, it’s only moderately awful.

Orr is definitely tough. It is very difficult to complete solo, especially as an elementalist. This is definitely by design. Guildie help is recommended, or learning how to get in and get out quickly on the POIs/Vistas. Some of those SPs will literally be impossible solo unless you are a thief. You will need help.
Can’t guarantee this will be the case on your server, but I’ve been stuck on a SP in Orr and just asked in /map if anyone happened to be in the area and feeling charitable enough to help me get a SP and I had 3 different people show up to help.
Never hurts to ask.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Orr is definitely tougher than the rest of the PvE zones. When I first hit Orr, I was a bit overwhelmed at how hard things hit and how much heartier enemies are and how much more densely packed they are. On top of that, you’ve got contested WPs and poisonous auras, etc.
However…
I adjusted my build, gave myself more dodges, more sustain, more aoe, more escapes, more condition cleanse. Built a little more WvW-ish than PvE. Not a lot of adjustment, but a couple trait & utility tweaks that completely made the difference.
The problem with Orr now, as others have said, is that it’s largely devoid of players. You have to avoid group events, evade countless champions, sacrifice yourself for map completion, and all by yourself. I’m hoping Megaservers will help the low population of Orr. And I hope that changes are made to DEs in general that encourage players to play together to succeed in event chains.

“I think I used potions, buff foods, a lot of watermagic and patience. I now run orr in zerk/scholar with a 30/10/10/10/10 staff…”
I pretty much stay and farm in Cursed Shore (level 80 Ele here) what little I’m on.
Currently I’m running 30/20/0/20/0 Zerker/Scholar staff, though I do tend to tweak my build a lot.
For the OP -
When I first got to Orr I was a bit surprised at how tough it was and how much damage the mobs could take before dropping, but I was wearing mostly rare gear. It does get easier with exotic (or better) gear.
I do recommend staff for you because it will give you a range advantage when attacking mobs. Keep working on Orr, it’s not too bad once you learn the areas and the mobs.
I’ve completed all three maps on Orr 8 times, once on each class, always solo. Here are some things I noticed that may help you:
1. On my first character I would have died a lot if it wasn’t crowded, and it was only crowded since Orr was full of farmers (this was one month after release or so). By the time I did my third or fourth character I could do all 3 maps in one sitting and not die at all. You’ll learn what TYPE of mobs there are and where they are – so you’ll develop a route that is effective and painless. You’ll also discover certain waypoints that are ‘safe zones’ and never contested and you’ll be fine if you plan your route with those safe zones as destinations in mind. Really sounding like zombie apocalypse now eh. You’ll also know where the champs are, which brings me to my next point.
2. Avoid the events if you can, especially if it’s a group event. Some group events are just never, ever done. Temples are usually done even on low population servers but you’ll quickly realise that there are a handful of people who do the pre-event and then suddenly a whole zerg appears for the final boss fight. People trickle in and it takes time to build up the crowd.
3. Equip lots of condition removals. That’s not a problem at all for Eles – you may want to consider traiting for condi removal upon attuning to water. Orrians are incredibly annoying with their crowd control conditions.
4. Temple skill points are best done with uncontested. This would probably involve some guesting especially for Balthazar. You can check this site to see which temples are open on which servers: http://www.gw2state.com/temples.html
5. ASH LEGION SPY KITS. Works like Shadow Refuge. I cannot stress this enough, unless you have a thief buddy. It makes it so much easier to get those skill points which are guarded by champions that are never killed cough champion risen knight in Malchor’s Leap cough
Good luck!
