There is something i just cannot understand, why are there so many players that insist on failing certain events to get more “gilded chests” It’s already been shown a lot of times that farming the regular mobs are much more rewarding and much more stable then Champion farming.

Yet i still see so much rage whenever people decide to defend arah(I can get 30+ lootbags from those 10 minutes, not counting how much silk and T6’s drop) and yet people are angry when players do defend said event, because they miss out on 4 gilded chests, ignoring the bags.

I’m wondering why is this? why are players so keen on getting RNG-based gilded chests?

  • Maybe they haven’t seen the “proof” which you allude to but don’t actually cite?
  • Maybe the allure of rares or exotics is more viscerally pleasing than the RNG of heavy moldy bags?
  • Maybe they don’t have enough Bloodstone Dust? ;O

Is that even possible?

I only have 276 bricks, and as we all know its enough for me to make decent size house.

In hope they’ll receive exotic items, precursors etc, loot to salvage & sell. Yet to encounter anyone intentionally failing the event when defending on the NA megaserver. Maybe I am lucky.

Gilded Chest has a chance to drop exotics and Ascended armor/weapon chests.

People who farmed Frostgorge know how it does work.

Weird, I’ve yet to run into anyone who is upset about defending Arah. Seen plenty ignore it, but people seem to unanimously love the bags in the maps I’ve been in.

Or words to that effect.

Perhaps ANet adds some form of PvE based Fame system, if you fail events too much, perhaps the NPCs would turn hostile of the player…

But just joking.

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

Really, then we clearly have been on different Megaserver maps, there is nearly a daily fight in map chat about defending arah vs retaking it, the loot for retaking it is a lot more then defending it, yet sadly because of MS, if you are a troll you can basically screw the map over, I watched 5 people from the same guild do the defend event themselves, where people in map chat where asking to let it fail so they could retake to unlock the trait, and they basically got told to kitten.

This whole thing comes back down to 1 thing, LOOT, if it didn’t suck so badly, people wouldn’t fail events/ farm/camp the same champs over and over and over and over and over and over, Anet don’t care though, but watch how fast they bring the nerf hammer into Orr when they see it.

If you believe that people would stop trying to accumulate loot faster, no matter how “good” loot were to become, you don’t understand human nature.

Clearly we have. I don’t know what to say other than… that sounds like a trait issue, not an event issue. From the way you’re describing it.

Simple fix… defend event should also count for trait (I thought killing mage that way did count though? maybe I’m remembering wrong).

Because the loot for letting Arah fail tends to be a lot better than defending it for a short nine minute event.

Sadly, the event chain’s loot was nerfed pretty dramatically with the change to Angaria, making nothing spawn during her event once at the beacons.

Even with the Angaria nerf, I’d still wager that it’s far more profitable for everyone on map to not defend Gates and do the chain from Anchorage:

There’s no wait time once gates falls provided Anchorage is defended. You get six events with a bare minimum of three champions – usually more from upscale champions (5-7 is common). Even with Angaria nerfed, you can still farm the mobs during the Ballastician event, and the Giant one, and to a lesser extent Didi escort. Before the Angaria nerf, Angaria was also an effective 7:30 min long non stop loot farm. I used to average 65-80 loot bags from the Arah Assault prior to this nerf.

The ground chest provided at the end of the chain is also very good. It seems to have a much higher chance at rares/exotics than most, not to mention contains more loot than any other boss chest. I usually see 1-3 rares. I’ve gotten two exotics at once as well.

After the Angaria nerf, I still tend to average 15-20 moldy bags, 3-6 champion bags and that once per day per character amazing chest. I’d take this any day over your 30+ loot bags.

Believe me, I farm for the moldy bags too primarily. There are better events for this that don’t wind up annoying everyone on map. Ideally, it’d be best to farm the Gate defense til the end and let it fail, but that’s not going to happen with megaserver zergs anymore.

Not to mention, the High Wizard doesn’t always seem to spawn on defense – even more reason that Assault is preferred.

Tarnished Coast Engineer and… general alt-o-holic.

For the toast!

But becoming legendary and proper skills, they’d slaughter everything with devastating 1-shot-down/sec AoEs that deal ridiculous amounts of dmg that even downed die in few hits, have unblockable and undodgeable attacks, strong DoTs that even bleeds deal 500 dmg per sec per stack and high resists against dmg in general reducing direct dmg source to 1/25, not to mention 10 billion HP

And they’re set to not drop any loot.

Ridiculous stats…

Good luck staying alive…
