Q:
Out of 10, what would you rate this year's GW2 Halloween Event?
Definitely a 10.

9.0/10
The single best holiday event I’ve experienced in an MMO. It did have bugs, and there were a couple issues with it. Overall, it was quite amazing.

Based on the way I play and enjoy the game, I would give it a 9.5/10, which is better then any other Halloween event I’ve played. I don’t even remember what I did in WoW all those years ago. Something about knocking on doors and getting candy… that’s all I remember. This is an event I’ll always remember to the last detail.
However, if I were to rate it based on how it appealed to across the entire population based on being user friendly, informative, and non-frustrating, then I’d give it somewhere around a 7/10.

Loved that clock tower. Only wish a few edges had been smoothed out on some of the jumps.
Other than that, I liked the event.
Clocktower 10/10
Scavenger Hunt – Not really my thing, so I can’t really score it that well
Rumble – Eh, it was okay 5/10
Inquisition – 8/10 pretty fun
Costume Brawl – Thought it was going to be an arena game type thing, not just an open free for all. 4/10
Mood and settings, decorations – 10/10
Mad King Thorn dungeon – 7 / 10
Way they handled the black chests, rare skins – 2/10
Ending event – 3/10 was kind of a let down at the end
Overall it was probably around a 6 or 7 for me
Not disappointing, but not overly super awesome either
For a first event it’s a decent enough start
9/10. Reiterating that it was the best MMO holiday I have ever seen, but there was a few minor issues regarding loot.
I feel as if the black lion chest loot should have been 10x easier to get. If you spend 50 bucks on keys, you should at least be guaranteed ONE rare skin.
Also, the pvp modes were really fun, but they didn’t offer any good rewards, so I didnt do them as much.
But everything was really well done and fun, and I really liked the phases. It felt like there was something to look forward to, and it there wasn’t too much thrown at you at once.
All of the people saying it was the best MMO holiday they have ever seen makes me wonder just how many MMOs with holidays they have seen…
For me, it was 8 or 9 out of 10; definitely fun, a decent variety of activities, but not the best holiday I’ve seen (although, one of the better Halloween ones).

Might I ask which MMO holiday events you’ve participated in that has been better? Not trying to disprove anything. I’m just curious.
9 /10 :P
In the first day , i wished they could create an mini arena with a caudron in the entrance (inside LA) , and throw out/knockback the ppl that lost :P
The first day , was … not so superb as the others :P
(edited by Killthehealersffs.8940)
I’d say, 8 out ah 10
Some ah the stuff got really repetitive, and the brawl got annoying. And, I suspect they didn’ do the big finale on Halloween because they wanted everyone ta be there an’ not miss it for celebratin’ their own parties, but I wish they’d had somethin’ dramatic when the clock hit midnight. (Like ah cinematic of the Mad King gettin’ sucked back into his realm)
And … I’m not really inta scavenger hunts, but allota people are and runnin’ through it with my friend was fun – BUT. But, when some of the pages where only in high level zones in made it real hard for lower level characters ta get them. I ended up escortin’ a couple players what were 6 levels too low for the zone in the first half, (and didn’ mind doin’ it at all) and the second half we had pages in even higher zones. Kinda lame for those people what really want ta be part of the thing, but don’ have their characters high level yet.
The Clock Tower; I fell off that thing a million times an’ still had a great time on it – only thing I’d change is maybe instancing it by race or somethin’. (I liked havin’ other people there, but didn’ like the big races blockin’ my line ah sight)
I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.

[Rant]
I would rate the holiday event a 1 because they gave more importance to patching the holiday event (a small temp part of the game that is now gone) then fixing a bug in the main game that prevents players from progressing in the story line that still has yet to be fixed and was confirmed by ANET a month ago.
Putting priority on bonus temp content over a bug that completely prevents player progression is unacceptable in my book.
And before anyone brings up the diffeent teams working on different things argument it’s the QA team that has to test and approve the fix for the hatchery bug. THis same team are the ones that approved all the patches for the Halloween bugs and put them out on the live server before fixing a problem with the core story line.

Okay now that i got that out of the way the event wasn’t that bad and was better then most other mmo holiday events in both fun and amount of content.
My only real complaint (barring my rant) was clock tower defiantly needed more planning. Playing as anything other then char/norn was just an exercise in frustration. They should have foreseen this problem and turned everyone into skeletons or something for the clock tower.

About a 3, not clearly explained enough ingame.
Really didn’t care about skins or recipes, don’t pvp or wvw either so… it was an hey look a candycorn node
Other players seemed happy though. I just didn’t see what was they big deal players were going on about.
Made certain I was at Lion’s gate in the correct and time/area for the Big event… what was it?
To Neg0, I’m still just on that Hatchery quest too, been awhile, why don’t they just reset everyone ? so they can pick a different quest line?

7-8/10
It started amazing but then it really fizzled in the end. I logged on when I got home on Halloween expecting the Mad king to show up and it to be a crazy party and it felt lack luster at best.
I don’t know if it was the lack of any special loot for playing mad king says or the fact that the event felt empty because the kitten engine only rendered the 10 closest people to me. It just didn’t have the power of the GW1 Halloween finally.
7/10. I just wasn’t able to get in to most of it. They made it very difficult to do so, in my opinion. I didn’t bother reading a guide, so maybe that was my problem. The real problem is that the learning curve shouldn’t be so high that it’s almost necessary to read a guide or spend oh so much time learning it all; I just don’t have time for that.

Didn’t like the theme very much. But that isn’t really Anet’s fault.
They really put good work into it and there was A LOT to do. But most of those things were meh. I tried doing the MK dungeon the first night it was out. Due to lag we never managed to get into the same instance as a group. So we decided to solo it. Another guy and me (both Guardians) managed to get quite far alone. It’s basically a large health-pools you needed to take down. The adds/special abilities were too weak to kill one players. It was all good fun till I was at 40% of MK health and my friend at 5% and the game decided to crash, so we lost our hour worth of progress. Never bothered to return later with the help of a group if it’s just a plain: Don’t be stupid and attack this large healthpool.
Clocktower would’ve been great fun if I had finished it. At some point I didn’t really make any progress anymore and I stopped bothering.
Definitely 10/10.
The tower was my favourite thing.
I give it a 9/10, because it had some bugs but I think they will fix it for next year :p
8/10
Probably would have gave it a 9, if they had kept the pvp mini games lol
Clocktower – A- (grand idea marred with technical issues)
Rumble – A (I am not so much into DotA but it was otherwise well done)
Inquisition – A+ (well done)
Costumes – A (fun but they should tone down on the CC side)
Dungeon – B (it was not bad but initial technical issues made it partially unfun, solo’d that place)
Scavenge hunting – A+
Final event – A+ (hilarious)
Atmosphere and characters – A
Overall grade A experience or in your inferior point system: 9.3/10
When I’m playing WvW I’m really playing LSD.
5/10
clocktower was the failing grade here.
Rest of it was solid.
An easy 6/10.
Some parts were great and really proffesional, but others just made it look amature at best. I was more than happy with each event in itself (apart from act 4, it was a real letdown) in terms of design and looks, but my god at some of the things that happened (the event exploit for hours, BL chests for skins, the MK chest being even worse that BL chests that were supposed to make up for them, making CT a group event etc).
Zarturo: Elemental – Desolation.
9.5 because I never give anything a 10
It’s the best holiday event type thing I have ever seen in a game. Truly remarkable.
10
they did a real good job with it.
6.5
Wasn’t perfect, but a lot better than some other holiday events.
I absolutely hated how they handled the skins.
2/10. Seen much better events in other mmos.
Basicly just a ploy to make people spend alot of cash on buying Keys for chests.
Rewards VERY bad. 10 slot bag?…
Hmmm. Probably a 9? I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t perfect, but I had a great time.
9.5, was great but I didn’t manage to do all of it thanks to time issues!
A solid 6 (which is good from my critical eye).
Room for improvement of course; but over all was a some good times.
Needed a lot more playable and earnable holiday stuff. Earnable does not equal grindable/farmable stuff to eventually craft months after the event is over.
Having ALL skins available through Karma or Unique Halloween Karma-like currency from Halloween related DEs would have been a solid win in my book.
Each Act adding more DEs to new areas (could even add some in WvW to entice more conflict) each with the same rewards; but enabling more content to just have fun in.
Then post event; add the skins to the Gem Shop for purchasing the pieces players could not get would have been better and less akin to a cash grab via low budget f2p titles in dire need of a quick influx of money. And sadly, this is what left a sour taste in my mouth.
The 6/10 score, while is again generous from myself; would have been higher. But really, we got GW2 farm/grind mode with Halloween skins and one “quest” chain for the book (which happened to be my favorite part).
The clocktower, while one of the coolest looking things I’ve seen was beyond my ability to complete. That’s not a complaint though. I thought that it was really cool… I just have issues judging distance on even stable non-timed jumping puzzles, so that clocktower was my own personal nightmare. lol
8.5/10, had fun with the event, only the drop rates for the skins/black lion chests sucked, and the communication from the devs could have been better overall, like not teasing a one time only event and not giving the time, then the event turns out to be a 5 second cut-scene that repeats periodically anyway.
I’m quite happy though, even managed to snag a greatsaw from the tp before the prices tripled.
10 out of 10.
Looking forward to the November release.
11/10
I only ran the mad king dungeon one time and made 22 gold off an item drop
10/10 Well done Anet!
9/10 for that awesome Inquisition
Finale could have been better, and the Mad King’s prizes weren’t great, but hey; still most fun I’ve had in a long time.
Many people couldn’t complete the clocktower (I did) which seems too exclusive for a holiday event. The skins seemed alot like a gimmick trying to sell keys and again, the high cost and low RNG rate made it too exclusive for a holiday event.
The dungeon that you defeat the mad king was fun. The mad king’s labyrinth wasn’t bad. Mining candy corn got old old quick. “Mad king says” was one of the most anticlimactic events I’ve ever seen in a game like this.
I can picture the developers watching players attempt clock tower and doing mad king says while laughing and saying umadbro?
Anyway, I give it a solid non fanboy 5/10
My first post about it was a compliant. I quickly labeled it a micro-transaction focused revenue stream, but my opinion quickly changed with phase 2…. Hats off to the team behind it, In retrospect I would give it a perfect 10. By far the best Holiday event experience I’ve had in an MMO. They exceeded all expectations and I was happy with every aspect of it. I also thought it was great the very final event paid respect to GW1. This homage took up a small amount of time, but was perfectly executed with the beginning being the destruction of the statue.
Before all was said and done I was very happy to spend some real money on gems to obtain a costume. The costume was worth it and the money goes to make more of this sort of thing possible in the future.
Thinking back on how much work must have been put into this effort draws a bit of an emotional response because I’m thinking about how much hate has been flowing through these forms and I’ve written my share of unfavorable things.

I have played…
MAX level MMO’s:
12sky (m33)
12sky2 (m33 and g4)
Rappelz (150)
SW:ToR (2 50’s)
Diablo 3 (3 level 60s) (does that count as an MMO?)
Star Trek Online (2 Vice Admirals and 1 Lieutenant General)
Vindictus (1 70 and 2 60+)
LOA (nobody got max level, but I was as high as it got)
S.U.N. (70)
I might be forgetting a few. I’m ultra experienced with F2P/B2P MMO’s (WTB a life, /whisper me). Not trying to brag here, it’s not like have no life is something to brag about. What I’m saying is that I’m very experienced with MMO’s. I have not experienced a holiday event as good as this one. Now, I’ve not played Rift/WoW/Aion, so maybe those can top it.
A dungeon, a jumping puzzle, 2 new PvP game modes, a new PvE map, reskinned LA/the moon, ghost hunting, a new way to PvP, tons of new skins, minipets, etc… This was a very large holiday event. It’s the largest I’ve personally ever seen.

8.9/10
It’s near perfect, except for a few hiccups here and there.
The largest gripe I’d say was the BL chests. It would have made more sense if there was a token system, where the required items were gained in game as well as through BL chests. Next time, make separate chests, which also use BL keys, but make the chests completely holiday themed.
Definitely a 10. Never have I seen so much actually INTERESTING content in a holiday event, and better yet, it was stuff you didn’t HAVE to grind and do on a daily basis – the only other MMO I’ve seen come close for actual holiday content is LOTRO, and that’s deadly dull and grindy because you do it every day, and not nearly as much real new content.
I didn’t even attempt the clocktower and I love the fact it was included.
i prefer easter more
Out of 10, what would you rate this year's GW2 Halloween Event?
Posted by: Alexander Dragonfang.1759
10.
At first i wasn`t that hooked, till i saw Clocktower, just epic =D!
9. Only cuz I wanted more costumes, or ones a bit more simple looking. :P
I’ve seen and done a lot of MMO holiday events, even GW1’s are better than those so GW2 lives up to it well.
It is hard to give a number to any review of features. I will say that I have seen holiday events and settings in different games notably World of Warcraft and Rift. The Halloween event for GW2 was by far the best I have ever seen. It had many layers to it. Specific quests, great holiday themed areas and ambience, dungeon activities, personalized gear and other items, crafting items, etc etc.
I think the only area lacking were personal items like companions and such that can be used in the overall world. This is a weak area for the game. I definitely think GW2 should implement a support companion feature like mounts, a noncombat squire, pack animal, or similar thing to allow more customization, more personalization, more options for gameplay, plotlines, and just another element to unique character expression. Regardless ArenaNet did Halloween very well.
Scavenger Hunt – Awesome love the flame book, stats where pretty kitten good for a lowbie :P (Didn’t see many 20’s running around with it) Also got it on my 80 ofc.
Clock Tower – Insane (in a good way)
Rumble etc , wasn’t that appealing to me.
Witches Costume – Awesome!
Skins good.
Chests Bad
Mad King says.., pretty lame tbh.
Overall 7/10
Can’t wait to see what they do for Xmas
9.8/10
No other game that i have played. WoW, SWTOR, Tera, plus all the old school MMO’s Had this detailed of an event. With different acts, different goals, different puzzles and quests
It was unbelivable how much time they put into this. So many rewards; from skins to consumables. It was amazing. The only reason i didnt give it a 10/10 is because of some annoying bugs and how hard clock tower was haha. But still, Amazing.
9.5/10
This event had me playing the game longer than I usually do. Clock tower was easily the best activity of the event for me. Only gripes were the scavenger hunt (too many people doing it at once and gathering around ghost locations ruined the mystery for me) and the rather anticlimactic Act 4. Still, an excellent event by Anet. I look forward to future events!
9/10 Overall
1/10 for the way BLC skins were handled (please note that I purchased 0 keys – I just thought it was a very poor cash grab)
I am completely shocked by those rating this event as a “10.” It makes me wonder if this was their first MMO holiday event or if they have their head under a rock.
4/10 - As far as holiday events go in MMOs, this event was atrocious. The most glaring issue about this event was that there was nothing to tell you what was available to do. If it wasn’t for being linked to Dulfy.net I wouldn’t have even found where the Scavenger Hunt began. That is not to say that the events, once found, weren’t fun. They were quite entertaining. However, hiding these limited time events and making the player find where they begin is silly at best. No one wants to be spoon-fed how to complete the events but we’d like to know where they start without having to enlist the help of third party sites.
Secondly, the little mini-games such as Lunatic Inquisition throw you in without really elaborating on what to do and what’s going on. In fact, since I was put into a game already in progress, I was unable to read the little pop-up that appears which tells you what to do before being killed by the opposing ghosts.
Third, the fact that that a dungeon was part of this event. Mad Kings’ Ascent to Madness dungeon sounded like fun aside from the fact that it seemed gated to level 80s. Maybe people were farming them on Jade Quarry but the fact that people were only looking for level 80s to join their groups is very telling. Limited time events shouldn’t be gated to max level but something more reasonable. I don’t have much time to play so I have yet to reach 80 yet. Even though I’m level 52, this wouldn’t have bother me as much if the level requirement was 60, 70, or even 75-78.
Fourth, the issues with the chest. I have no problem with buying from the gem store and like to do so from the few MMOs that I do play – even the subscription ones that have “cash shops.” However, my issue is that there was really nothing you could obtain as “memorabilia” from the event in-game. Yes, you could craft weapon and armor skins but the input value is way more than the output value. While this is an inherent design flaw with the game, the issue doesn’t make it easy for those of us below level 80.
Finally, I’ll end this with saying that once found, the little Halloween events were fun. In addition, it was nice to see Lion’s Arch in Halloween flavor and look forward to seeing the halls of Lion’s Arch decorated for Christmas. However, the sheer number of problems with this event outweigh the good. In a sense, I’ve seen this event described as “a drain for the economy’s wealth” and I agree. Comparing this event to my favorite Halloween event, Star Trek Online’s Night of the Comet from several years back I say this is disappointing.
4/10 – Too man issues that plagued this event make it atrocious at best.
BWE – Present
9/10 – One of the best short-term live events I have ever seen. Not perfect, but truly awesome. Just wish I had had more time recently to do everything.
Thanks Anet!
9/10 easily!
The clock tower by far is one of the best experiences, if not the best, I have in GW2, even compared other MMOs like Aion and TERA in-game events.
From the endless drama of players struggling to finish the puzzle but also taking it in their stride, to the heart beating moments trying to finish the puzzle yourself with the constant threat of doom lurking over your shoulder, it was an experience to remember!
I wish other jumping puzzles were this exciting! :P
Exotic drops too!
